This ice box has over 20 hand carved pieces on the two front doors, nice detailed lion head carvings and two large paw feet. All of these carvings were hand made by highly skill woodworkers in the 1890's. The columns on the sides are really nice oak rope carvings that are below each lion head and extends down to the top of each paw foot. Underneath the top ledge are unusual oak trim with heart style carvings on all three sides. The bevelled mirror is in great shape, no chips, scratches or hazeThis ice box is solid oak and has never been painted before. A lot of the ice boxes that you see listed were painted before and when finished, they have a washed out appearance from the paint still present in the grain of the wood. It dates from the 1890s to 1900s. It has a couple of rub marks on the tabletop from dragging something on the table top. It is noticeable, but not severe. It is a solid oak 54 inches quarter sawn top. The table is 30 inches high and when all four leaves are inserted the table becomes 8 feet long. It is a good-looking table with a large reeded center column and a platform base that goes down into the biggest ball and claw feet I have seen in a long time. The table is in a medium oak stain. Antique Victorian Table-top Cutlery Canteen. Oak Cabinet w 5 Drawers Elkington& Co Liverpool Circa 1900 Marked'Elkington& Co. Silversmiths, Liverpool' An solid oak table-top cutlery canteen with heavy brass carry handles. It has two arch panelled doors. With brass knobs and a sprung stud locking system(but no key, alas) which open to reveal 5 fitted drawers, also with brass handles. The doors reveal a brass inlay plate with the name Elkington& Co- as per the above markings. Cutlery people will be disappointed to learn that the drawers are empty and no longer fitted for cutlery. They are beatifully lined with velvet. And it is obvious that this has been used as a collectors cabinet, a function for which it is ideally suited. It has some problems. None of which detract from the overall appearance or function- but this is ... moretoo nice a piece for me to attempt repairs. A piece of wood, about an inch long has been lost from above the door hinge, on the top right hand side, and the solid oak back panels have shrunk, and have been carelessly glued back into place- and stand a little proud. I have a dilemma. In that the previous owner applied trim under the base of the cabinet to fit securely into an'ad hoc' stand. This is a more recent piece of oak, with a ply platform shelf, and was once probably a 1950s side table. It looks quite handsome on this'stand' the difference in colour and grain of wood is not too glaring, and could well suit those who want to use it as a collectors cabinet. I have decided to sell it with the'stand' included in the asking price. But if you do not want the'stand' I will deduct £10.00 from anty final agreed price, and you will likely save a substantial amount on postage- especially overseas buyers. Finally. It follows that those who want to return this to its original form, as a stand-alone table top cabinet, will have to remove the thin wood trims on the base, and(ideally) find some suitable feet- the holes in the base indicate that there w

Rare Unusual Late Victorian Antique Oak Jewellery Box, Combined Perfume Tantalus
Offered for sale. A"Rare& Extremely Unusual" Late Victorian Antique Oak Jewellery Box. Combined Perfume Tantalus. This Deliciously exquisite and most unusual item is simply a delight. And a genuine curio of the Victorian era. It was clear that a fine lady would need to protect her treasures from potential light fingered servants, however it seems there was also a need to ensure her expensive perfumes were not being surreptitiously dabbed on the neck of the housemaid and it must have been derived from the“Butlers Enemy” the drinks“Tantalus” first shown at the great exhibition, that the idea of combining a version of this with a lockable jewellery box must have come, hence allowing both valuables to be displayed whilst at the same time protecting them from use by the staff. It is unclear when the first of these were made and how ... morewidely they were used and for how long they were popular, clearly nowhere near as widespread in use as their counterpart the drinks Tantalus which is borne out by their rarity today. This example is stunning and in really very nice condition, it consists of four cut glass(probably Bohemian) perfume bottles themselves in lovely condition with only a couple of flea bites on one of the stoppers to fault them. The jewellery box opens at the top with lockable hinged double doors which also secure the bottles in the Tantalus; the doors also have superb bevelled glass panels to allow the jewellery below to be viewed. Inside there are three red leather lined compartments two of which have red leather covered tilt-top covers and are silver embossed with the words in old English script“ Hair Pin s” the central compartment is open. There are a few scuffs and minor age and use related marks to the leather but these are only very much what you would expect, indeed require of a used item of this age. There’s a secret drawer“there is always a secret drawer” particularly with the better pieces, this is where you keep the good stuff and is laid out as a bespoke jewellery tray, it is at the bot

For Sale is a Stunning Victorian Solid Oak Chest of Drawers which has been scaled down either as an Apprentice Piece or considering the quality of the workmanship. A Salesman's Sample. The Chest measures 10 inches wide. 8 inches tall, with a depth of 6 inches. This heavy piece is almost certainly a Scottish example of a Scottish style of period furniture making. Everything on this piece is in its original condition and dates from 1840 to 1860. The three drawers are hand constructed and run on individual rails with their original turned metal and wooden handles and tiny metal escutcheons. The four'bun' feet are original and still tightly attached. The front of the chest is decorated with a pair of classically designed. Carved wooden pillars with deeply engraved geometric lines. Time earned colours and patina, and the quality of the build, make this one of the best examples of its type. The Chest is constructed from solid oak with pine being used for the drawer interior and runners. The condition of this piece is out of this world. This is maybe the first time it has seen the market in 150 years. There is an old nick out of the top slab but to be honest it is in character with the look of a period piece and in no way detracts. The chest is in great physical shape with no splits. Cracks, splints, scratches, drooping, wobbliness or restoration. To be honest it looks even better in real life than the camera can capture. Antique Victorian Humpback Chest Oak Wood and Metal with tray
I have owned this beautiful chest for 55 years and have not been as kind as it deserved. I have stored everything imaginable in it and have stained the tray with artist supplies. It measures 34" long and 21 1/2" wide. It goes from 23 to 27 1/2" High at the hump. I am in a five floor walk up which means two strong people to carry it down. Should you buy it treat it better than I did. Hinges work fine Leather straps are gone. I think before I bought it)

The box opens on the top with two hinged lids to reveal three inner spaces. The lids are slightly bowed with age but this only adds to the patina of the box. Vintage antique 19th C. Victorian oak CAMPAIGN TWO DRAWER storage CHEST, CABINET
A very attractive antique 19th Century Victorian oak CAMPAIGN TWO DRAWER CABINET. This was originally a cutlery chest that I have had professionally refitted so as to offer a unique and quite beautiful storage cabinet. On the lid is a fitted brass plaque that is engraved and reads‘PRESENTED TO LIZZIE KIRKMAN. BY HER FATHER& MOTHER, ON HER 21st BIRTHDAY, NOVEMBER 19th 1898’ Each end of the cabinet has brass campaign chest handles that are fitted flush and have their original screws and are in very good order. When you lift the lid you are met by a deep storage area fitted out in dark green baize. The attractive and original campaign fold away brass hinges, brass corner plates and brass pin location plates are all in good order and condition. There is a label with a registered number on that reads‘RD. NO. 278968’ When the lid is opened ... morethe fitted brass pins, at the front, that fit in to the tops of the front panels rise thus allowing you to open up the two front panels that close against and secure the drawers. The two drawers have also been refitted in dark green baize therefore making them a lot more useful than when they were fitted out to hold cutlery. Both drawers have there original brass handles. A really attractive and very well made Victorian chest that makes for a beautiful storage cabinet for anything, collections, jewelry etc. The cabinet itself measures 19” long by 13 1/2” wide by 9” high. The bottom drawer is 3” deep, the top drawer is 1 1/2” deep and the top including the inside of the lid offers 2” in storage depth. The unique feature was a trunk that is completely covered with strips of wood over a thick wooden body, making it more durable and attractive than others.
