Made in England, Victorian era, Circa 1890, Mahogany, Hidden drawer, Carved leg, Dovetailed drawer, Some normal wear to top, Age splits and old repairs to apron, A wonderful antique specimen from England around 1890. This hall table was probably once used as a washstand. But today would function perfectly in a foyer, entryway, hallway, or stairwell. The mahogany has a particularly nice patina to it that can only come with age. The piece features a hidden drawer in the middle for a little bit of storage room. The nicely carved front leg gives the table some pizazz while the clean lines of the piece don't over do it. The drawer is dovetailed, a sign of high quality craftsmanship. There are a few age splits and old repairs in the apron shown in the photos. These are purely cosmetic phenomenon and do not affect the structural integrity of the piece. The top also shows wear marks consistent with age and has a faded ring to the right side. Overall the table is quite sturdy and would make a wonderful addition to any home. The top is a beautiful patinated mahogany. It is in good condition. You can see the slight ring to the right side. The top does show signs of wear consistent with age in the form of tiny dings all over the surface some of which can be seen here. The wonderfully carved leg is supportive and good looking. The hidden drawer pulls out to reveal some storage space. The drawer is dovetailed. A sign of high quality craftsmanship. Both sides have similar slight age separations and repairs on the apron. Possibly'Crimean War' campaign slope, dated circa 1855. It is a fantastically crafted high end slope this that is very strong/sturdy and has a good military look to it with some wonderful looking and effective brass bounding. It is in phenomenal condition. The 11th picture shows a type written note(i believe to be dated to the 80's or maybe 70's) it reads: Victorian reading and writing desk often used by the military on campaigns in the Crimean war(circa around 1860(fully restored to original state. Insure for £500. The box is obviously an expensive and sought after/collectable slope with good history. The condition and craft of this slope ... moreas mentioned really is phenomenal. The wood is a beautiful warm mahogany grain that has a great luster to it and is solid. The brass is bright but still has a good tarnish to it. All brass bounding is firm and strong and sits flush as does the keyhole and top escutcheon. The brass handles are sturdy and both there. The pen tray is present as is a bone handled lid. There is one inkwell without the top. The brass pin that holds the'secret' side drawer in is missing but can be replaced with relative ease. The Lock is a famous'Patent' model that has a makers stamp initial to the left and right that looks like the letter'T' A magnificent. Very handsome, mid 1800's writing slope with markings commensurate with age. Similar slopes sell regularly for £500+. It is highly crafted.High end very strong/sturdy. All the brass is firm and strong Both the brass inkwells are in good condition and they have screw locks. There are storage compartiments between the ink wells( one of them for pens) and 2 open catches to keep one of the writing surfaces in place. Side'secret' drawer with handle and handle the other side for lifting it. Fully opened it measures 57 x50 cms. Depth at rear is 15 cms and 3.5 cms at the front. Closed the writing slope meaures 50x28 cms and is 20 cms deep. It has a green blaze base. The plaque on the lid says' Presented to the Revd. Tall Mahogany Victorian Lock-side Chest with Gallery& Fancy Brass Pulls c1870's Being offered for sale is this Tall Victorian Mahogany Lock-side chest with Gallery and fancy brass pulls circa 1870's. This fine 19th century chest appears to have its original finish and original fancy brass pulls with period dove-tailed joinery on the drawer ends. The gallery features fantastic carvings and details and accents this tall chest beautifully. The drawers have a maple interior with the top drawer having divided compartments for organization. This chest has chamfered back panels and casters intact on the base. The lock is missing on the lock-side portion. But the lock is intact on the top drawer but we do not have the key. This chest is very well made, tight and solid and in wonderful antique condition, There is a chip to the top right ... moreside of the gallery and a sliver of wood missing on that same side right below the gallery on the back-side of the chest up under the top portion.nothing distracting from the beauty of this chest in my opinion but wanted to point them out.
