This is a wonderful vintage weathervane of a sulky with rider. Trotting horse. It is all copper and brass with great original patina. This F o lk Art weather vane dates to the 19th century. Copper forms are soldered together and the figures are hollow. This is a very large piece. The measurements are 31"W x 16.5"H. One wheel is missing a spoke and two spokes are loose on one end. I can see no other areas that need repair. This has been in a private collection for over 20 years. I do not know the original area that it came from. We had it appraised 10 years ago And the value was $10.000. I also have a magazine clipping where it shows this weather vane brought $10,450 at a Munda and Associates sale in Freeport Illinois December 15 of 2002. See photograph. Antique Vintage Old Large Copper & Brass Weathervane Running Horse Weathervane
This is a beautiful old weathervane. The horse. Directional arrows, and decorative balls appear to be copper. The 3 demensional items are hollow. The horizontal bar under the horse appears to be some other material possibly brass. The verticle rod(black) seems to be steel or iron. I do not know the age, I aquired it at auction in the 80's and thought to add it to a cupola on the barn. This many years later it's still in the garage. This is a very large item and will come disassembled. I'm not sure that I have it assembled correctly but it seems to work. Overall assembled demensions are appx. 45" tall and 31" wide. The Horse is almost 28" wide nose to tail and appx. 13 1/2" tall. There are two decorative balls. MASSIVE 32" Horse Weathervane/ Lightning rod Antique Vintage Copper Brass Horse measures approx. 31" x 17" and the whole piece measures approx. 33" long x 20" tall. It is being sold as found. It will need to be reattached to the pole. I do not know what the head is made from but it looks like brass(just not positive) and I do not know how old it is but it looks very old. View all of the photos and use zoom and enlarge. There are two small scratches on one side(see the last two photos) I wipes the item with a soft cloth and water to get off the dust. This is a large new solid copper weathervane. It is very large. Just the star part alone is 34in long(the arrow) and 27 inches tall. Add the pole. Decrotive balls and direction it gets even taller over 40 inches! This is beleived to be made by Weathervanes of Maine a couple decades ago. It has always been in a box and never used outside. It has only been displayed indoors a short time. The star, directionals, and balls are all solid heavy copper with a painted on patina. This weather vane came from a farm in Illinois. I'm not sure how old it is. It has brass directionals included. There is a slight separation at the horse's tail and a break at one of the wheels(see pictures) The horse has a lot of details that most weather vanes like this don't have. Vintage Rooster Aluminum Weathervane Copper Base Brass Rod Rooftop Barn 38" Tall
You are bidding on a vintage rooster weathervane. It is approximately 60 years old or slightly older. It was attached on the top of a roof and was taken down and stored when the new owner of the property rebuilt there. It comes apart and if you look at the pictures you can see how it goes together. The base is made of copper with is painted black. The copper is placed over a wood base. The paint has flaked in several places. The base measures approximately 17 inches on each of the 4 sides. The rod that holds the weathervane looks like it is made of brass but I'm not sure. The directional N-S-E-W sits on this rod and there are large screws that tighten it onto the rod. The S mark was repaired at one time as you can see from the picture. The rooster and arrow sit on top of the directional N-S-E-W and will spin freely on the rod. I believe ... morethe rooster. Arrow and directions are all made of aluminum. This piece looks to have been painted a black with red markings. I am leaving it the way it was found and you may choose to repaint it to your liking. I do not see any type of markings on this piece as to who the manufacturer may have been. The whole weathervane assembled measures 38 inches tall. From the bottom of the directional N-S-E-W to the top of the rooster it measures 20 inches tall. The distance across from the front of the arrow to the back measures 24 inches long. VINTAGE COPPER & BRASS HORSE WEATHERVANE FROM OLD BARN
Here is an old weathervane we found in an old horse born back in a grown over field. The horse is copper and the N E S W letters are solid brass. The ball is copper. And the mounting pole is metal. It was covered with years of dust when we found it, and pictures 1 and 2 show it before it was dusted off. Note the cobwebs and thick layer of dust on the horse and the N E S W. We dusted it off, but didn't fully clean it, as we wanted to let the new owner clean it to his or her preferenes. Pictures 4, 5, 6, 9 show the weathervane after it was dusted. It is a beautiful large weathervane that stands 44 inches tall from top of horse to bottom of metal pole. The horse is approximately 30 inches long. This looks like an old timer and it has been resoldered in a few places and there are a couple of splits in the brass here and there. Picture 7 shows ... morea split in the lower tube near the horses right foot, however it doesn't affect the way the weathervane operates. When a strong breeze is in the air, the horse will swivel on its pole as all weathervanes do. New owner may want to have it repaired, but that's a matter of choice. As mentioned previously, it needs a good cleaning, but the patina that's on it now makes it have that really vintage look. Vintage copper with patina & brass Whale Weather vane
This is a great piece I purchased at an estate auction that was from a 90 yr old doctor. It is like the whale in" Moby Dick" This is considered a"small" weather vane. Which is 12" long. The whale is hammered copper and has just enough patina. This can best be used on a deck or patio or even on top of a small potting. Mowing shed. Or even inside on a desk or coffee table. You can appreciate it more than the larger ones that are placed quite high on top of a barn or a steep house. It does have a fancy style bass which can be taken off. It is a lot prettier than a block of wood. The base is 5" in diameter. The directional. NSEW sets 9" apart. It has the brass ring and set screw which are all brass. The whale has a small swollen body style. The globe or pivot balls are sized 2 1/2" and 1 1/2" diameter ... morethose are all copper with a nice look of patina. The whale is in great shape but has had a slight vein crack that has been repaired with lead. Everything can be taken apart. Together it stands 13" tall. Antique vintage beautiful copper brass eagle arrow weathervane with stand
Up for auction to U.S. customers for local pickup only is a very nice old eagle weathervane. It comes with a nice cast iron stand that the rod fits into. It stands 50 inches from ground to the top of the wings; the wings measure 22 inches across and the eagle itself is about 16 inches high. As I hope the pictures show. The piece has great patina and no damage(although the arrow is tilted slightly) This disassembles into 6 pieces- the eagle, arrow, lower ball, 2 directional and the stand. Between the stand and the rod I can't see how this would all fit securely into a shipping box so it is for pickup only. I have no history on it other than the people at the sale where I picked it up claimed they had found it on a barn in Pennsylvania. I don't know that for sure, nor do I know its age: the experts out there can probably figure out ... morewhen it was made based on certain features of the bird. Vintage Lightning Rods Sherman Maryville Mo. Brass Copper Bayonette Nickle Plate
Pair of vintage lightning rods. The larger one is marked Sherman Maryville Missouri and has the number a 11 on the clamp. The base is solid copper bronze with a light green patina. The rod is solid copper bronze with nickel plating most of the plating is still intact. It measures 18 1/2 inches tall as shown in the photos including the base. The bases 8 1/2 inches long by 3 1/2 inch wide as shown. The ride is nice and straight. The small rod is 10 1/2 inches long and a solid copper bronze. There is some Solder near the base see photos this may have been for repair. There are no threads on the smaller one-the opening is three quarters of an inch across. there are no markings on the smaller one. Two for one bid. Please ask any questions if I've missed something. Antique Vintage Large Weathervane Arrow & 18" Long Directionals (Brass & Copper)
Antique/Vintage Weathervane Arrow and Directionals Arrow was broken in half near the center. I had a professional solder the two pieces back together using real silver solder. He did a great job! Arrow measures approximately 21-1/2 inches long. It has a set screw. Post hole measures approximately 1/2" in diameter. I believe that the arrow head is brass. Pole is brass, and the"feather" of the arrow is Copper. Directionals are a matching set. They each have set screws. Both measure approximately 18 inches long. I believe they are brass. I am not 100% positive. Please judge for yourself. Post holes measure approximately 7/8" in diameter*This set had a huge old molded copper eagle on it. I sold the eagle a few months ago.
