It came off of the homestead’s barn when they retired ... moreand sold the farm in the 80’s. All of the hardware is there with the subject, the directional features and the mounting rod. I believe the metal is copper and from the early 1900’s, possibly earlier as I couldn’t find any manufacturer markings. A very nice piece!The size is a measurement of the cow only. The entire piece is much larger if you include the directional section and the metal staff it is mounted on. A nice vintage"medium" size barn cupola from a barn roof in rural Syracuse. Nebraska. Measures 46 1/2" square and about 12 foot tall. Is attached and stands on four 4x4 wood lumbers. Some rusted out spots near crown, underneith, could be primed and stopped. About 10 bullet holes in total. The weathervane is present and removeable. Cast iron& copper weathervane. The animal from the fin of the weathervane is missing. But another may be attached. I supplied the two vintage blue glass balls. Here is a vintage cast aluminum weather vane with a sailing ship pointer on top which spins freely. The Ship and directional markers are made from thick cast aluminum. The center pole appears to be brass. Although it is quite tarnished. There is a metal mounting plate at the bottom. And under that a circular wooden base that is very weathered. Measures 28" tall and 16" wide at the widest point, Very solid and well made. The wooden base will need replacing or repairing if you plan to use it. I have for sale an Antique or Vintage Lightning Rod Arrow Weathervane with what I believe is Amber Glass. This Arrow measures 21 1/2 inches long. The arrow itself I would say is in good condition for its age. I do not see anything broke but I do see right between the tip of the glass and where the lightning rod goes in where one of the little things comes out just the tip is missing-it would be close to the narrow tip of the glass. It has rust and pitting from age. As you can see in the photos the amber glass is original but there is a piece broke out of it. There also is a hairline crack in the glass-see photo. Vintage Antique Lightning Rod with WeatherVane Barn Farm Primitive Garden Decor
This lightning rod with weathervane came off the barn at my dad's farm. It was removed many years ago and has been sitting in the barn for years. The ball is NOT made of glass like some antique rods. It appears to be plastic. The Lightning rod and weathervane feel and look like aluminum. There is some blue/green patina that suggests the possibility of copper, but I can't be certain. A long time ago, my dad had the metal roof painted with an aluminum paint which is now on the lightning rod(the ball is originally white) I have not done anything to clean it and will leave that to the new owner. Approx. 3 ft. tall. The main rod slides up and down in the tripod feet. Making it taller or shorter. I've selected up to 5 days for handling because I may need to custom make a box for it. I have an original lightning rod arrow weathervane with green glass. This Arrow measures 21 1/2 inches long. The arrow is in good condition for its age. It has a small amount of rust and well pitted from age. I would consider this to be the original glass but could be wrong. It is not in good shape. Has been glued as seen in picture and is missing a small piece at corner. There is a gap where the glass and the framing do not match up well. It has great old patina to the metal! The piece is easy to mount if wanting to use again. The spike just itself measures 14 1/2" tall and then the base/flat copper attachment is attached to it. Up for auction is this Vintage Weathervane Horse Topper. Made of Copper& Brass. Measures 19" long& 12"tall(overall) Made of thin Copper(but sturdy) I tried to show the Copper in the last picture. The weld on the back leg has come loose but could be easily fixed. The Arrow& part of the Horse are starting to show pretty neat patina. The"cap" on the bottom of the Arrow is threaded.
