Vintage Antique? Tin Zinc Metal Horse Weathervane Folk Art ~11 1/4" X 10 1/2"
Purchased at an Estate Sale. I do not know much about this piece. I was told it is very old. But as I am not am antiques dealer I really don't know. Please review pictures to judge condition for yourself. I was told it is a tin zinc metal. Hollow piece.Two sided horse weathervane. Has horse hair tail. That looks to me to have been added at a later time, possibly because the original tail broke. There are some dents as shown. I noticed a crack on the front foot. Some seperation at seams as hown. Weathervane rod has been repaired(braised) it is brass as spot can be seen in picture near rear leg.Repair will oxidize and will not be noticeable. A great collectable. Ask any questions. It is made of tin metal and iron rods. The NSEW pointer measures 2" ht. x 12" long. The tin horse wind direction measures 7" ht. x 13" long. It is not painted.just bare metal. It has a beautiful aged patina with much of the original gold wash finish intact. It is molded tin construction and measures 14 ½” long and 10 ½” tall. Antique UNUSUAL Tin Hollow Body Lightning Rod Horse Weathervane
Here we have for sale an unusual looking tin hollow body two piece horse weathervane. Not sure about the origins of this one. A guy had several lightning rods that came out of Illinois and this was part of his collection. The arrow is 20-3/4" long and made if cast iron. The horse is 8-1/4" long and 5-1/2" tall. It is made of two pieces of tin. It is swelled just like all other hollow body lightning rod animal vanes. It has detail as well. It is soldered together in spots but looks like it never was totally soldered all the way around. It has been painted black some years ago and has seen"use" in the air. It kinda reminds me of a Moore Bro. style horse that mounts on it's two middle legs. No damage or repairs. It's needs to be stripped of the paint to make it look real good. As a side note. Let me add this. ... moreI have not seen this style horse before which don't really mean anything because I haven't seen it all anyways. The arrow shaft doesn't appear to have ever had anything else mounted on it before. No extra holes or solder spots. The shaft is unquestionable as to being original to the front. Antique tin/metal horse. Based on the strapping it was part of a horse and carriage weathervane. It is corroded from exterior use and has a dent in the neck on one side. There is a hole on one side on the first hind leg where a support piece would have been welded. It is slightly puffed. About an inch across at the widest point. A nice rustic piece.

No dents, bullet holes, or repairs. Has a wonderful weathered patina. The shaft the horse is mounted on is made of cast iron and brass and measures 27-1/2" long.
