c.1910 Kretzer St. Louis Lightning Rod Wind Direction Arrow Weather Vane 22 1/2"
This is a 22 1/2 inch long lightning rod wind direction arrow marked Kretzer on one side and St Louis on the other. Manufactured around 1910. It is metal and meant to have a piece of colored glass in the tail. The glass needs replaced with the color of yor choice. The metal has a green color and may have been painted long ago. I am also selling a Kretzer lightning rod finial in a separate auction. and I do combine shipping. Both items were on the same barn.

These two lightning rod ball end caps are metal and both are about 1 1/2" in diameter on the outside. And the holes are about 1" in diameter. One marked Miller Lightning Rod Co St. Louis is in good condition, still has some tiny dings, and missing metal on the short inside rim. One marked Kretzer Brand Trade Mark is in fragile condition with some missing metal and cracks on the inside and outside rim. Great old hard to find parts! Rare antique Kretzer Lightning Rod Weather Vane This is a hard to find piece with the original green"Kretzer" glass in the tail. The glass is textured on one side and"Kretzer" is reversed applied- like a decal. Not painted, to the other, smooth side. It is a gold colored lettering with a black outline. There are a few small areas where the wording has come off. There are no chips in the glass at all. The arrow is most likely painted brass as it does not attract a magnet. Kretzer St. Louis" is cast into one side. It is in very good shape with no cracks or chips. Some patina on the rod and the glass has some film/dirt on the back side. I did not want to clean this. Antique Lightning rod with tripod base stand. The lightning rod was removed from Ledbetter Grocery Store. Ledbetter, Kentucky. The tip is marked, Kretzer, St Louis. The base of the rod reads, Kretzer Shurhold, Pat Aug 19, 1919 St Louis. The twisted shaft rod measures about 6 feet long. The top of the rod's three sided tip is about 11 1/2" long total(tip is 8" The tripod mount holder is about 38" tall. The tripod has twisted metal. The man that I purchased this lightning rod was in his 80's and said that he remembered the rod mounted on the roof of the grocery store. Amazing piece of history.
