TWO OLD VINTAGE WEATHERVANE DIRECTIONALS AMERICAN FOLK ART SOLID BRASS PATINA
This is a set of vintage weathervane/ lightning rod directionals. They are made of solid brass. They were acquired from a duck hunting club in southern Missouri. The duck weathervane( I also have listed now) was mounted on top of the clubhouse and it blew off the roof top in a huge storm in 2010. It never was remounted and has sat in a storage shed ever since. I am not sure of the exact age of this vane but was told by the owner of the club that it was there when he purchased the property in 1960. I will leave the exact age to be determined by the pros. THIS IS ALL NATURAL PATINA! NOTHING FAKE HERE! Both the east and west/ north and south measure apx. 17 inches long. They are very heavy and thick. Wind Vane Directional Letters Old Vintage Solid Cast Brass
This auction is for the two directional arms for a wind vane. They are cast in heavy brass. The two arm halves nest together in a slotted fitting. There would be a pipe running up through the center to support a movable arm and finial. I used a piece of hardware to approximate the assembly in the picture. You can use a piece of conduit or re-bar or pipe from Lowes hardware. The two pieces have the original slotted brass screws that act as securing fittings to clamp the arms in place. These are old. Probably Pre-WWII. The arms are about 2 feet across. Letters are about 3 or 4 inches tall. I can take a better measurement if needed. Feel free to ask any questions in advance. Antique Detailed Solid Brass 3-D Lightning Rod FISH FINIAL, Weathervane, Gilded
Description ANTIQUE LIGHTNING ROD WEATHERVANE FINIAL Striking and unusual antique solid brass lightning rod or weathervane finial measuring 4-1/4" tall by 5-1/4" wide. Featuring a three-dimensional fish(guessing salmon) Complete with fins, gills and fan tail, it is covered in tiny scales and mounted to a sturdy pike with solid foot- I don't think the mount hole is threaded. Bearing original old gilding, paint has worn and darkened with age to a rich, bronze color. Condition is very nice with no breaks, chips or damage- one side has lost more of the gold paint and is a bit more dull- there is verdigris within the lines of the tail and here and there within the tiny scale edges- lots of fine scratching, scuffing and general wear associated with being exposed to the elements- I removed the white spot on the fin after the photos ... morewere taken(it was a dot of paint) Heavy, solid and so unusual, this would have mounted to the top of an iron spike on a barn roof top to protect the building from lightning strikes.
