Fabulous Primitive Vintage Rooster Chicken Weathervane Original Finish I am still listing new items from Indiana. And have a boatload of new things from the flea market too. Lots of primitive antiques, farm finds, folk art, and the usual wacky Maureen stuff- you don’t want to miss this week! What's not to love about an old weathervane- don'tcha love the look of them? And this one has character to spare! It's an older vintage weathervane- made from spelter. I'm guessing as it's a grey metal that a magnet does not stick to- except for the base, which is brass, and has mounting holes on the sides for mounting. It's a rustic rooster, with a black painted finish that is accented with deep barn red for the details on his head. The center pole has a hand hammered look. It stands 24" tall to the top of the rooster, and ... morethe directionals are 15 1/2" apart end to end n/s, e/w. The base measures 2 1/8" square. The whole piece weighs 4 lbs. It does come apart, the directionals can be removed, as can the rooster as you can see from my photos, the top of the pole sticks out of his back, and you just lift him off. I will dis-assemble him for shipping in order to make the box smaller and hopefully save you some dabloons. It's in excellent solid and sturdy condition, with rustic wear to the finish that can be see- lots of worn black paint esepcially on the rooster, where you can see down to the metal, as well as the highest relief spots on the directionals and poles- that's the charm about him, though- he's primitive, he's old, he's all original, he's yours! This is an older vane. Probably 1950's-60's. Hand soldered seams, just like an antique one. Height is 16 in. The Rooster turns in the wind and is directional and it's about 9" tall. Great vane, great detail. This isn't simulated patina, it's actually weather darkened above and underneath. The lady said they'd had it in the family a long time. Polishing it would destroy it's value. Has a sitting base and likely was a great piece of yard decor. Nothing like it on the internet with that base. So it's kind like a one of a kind. This came from an estate that had some of the most unique things. Most of which were fairly old. Weathervane is certainly primitive in looks, has seen better days, but still a real neat looking piece. I believe it is made of pot metal, shows plenty of natural age and wear. I suppose it would be great for a repurposing project as well. Throw it in the garden, or even on a roof. It's a smaller weathervane, measuring 16" roughly) from bottom stem to top of roosters comb. Great early Rooster here folks! these are hard to find. I believe this was made by cushing in the 1880s.but you be the judge on the maker. shows great wear and guilt and painted layered surfaces couple old bullet repairs etc. I would not be selling this but a big deal just came up and I am reconfiguring my investments! so hes got to go. this magnificent bird stands 24 inches high by 18 inches wide. he really commands the room. winner pays all shipping and insurance and packing.
