Offering a wonderful OLD weather vane arrow with painted zinc CIRCUS HORSE prancing into the wind. This piece is is great shape. No holes, original patina, ready to hang! The entire set is 34" long, the arrow point end is cast iron, fitting onto a copper rod. The circus horse is firmly attached to the copper rod. Vintage Auth: Solid cast iron weathervane horse with Motion and makers mark
Antique Weathervane Horse. An old barn find.I believe to be the early 1900's or maybe later 1800's? I am not a weathervane expert so I am trying to present the best information I can.The entire weathervane is made of cast iron, since a magnet sticks to all pieces. This weathervane has a great finish from decades of exposure to the elements. Rain, sleet, snow, lightning, and birds. It measures 34" from the top of the horses head to the bottom of the base. The horse is 8"wide by 7"high, and the arrow is 12" wide. There is a makers mark on the bottom of the base but after a month of research, I still don't know who it belongs to. Very Nice Rare wonderful old weathervane. The weathervane is 22" long. Flayed foot which fits into a twisted wrought iron that horse sets on. The horse is a tin with a cast iron arrow. The horse is a running horse. The weathervane is 22" across, total. The horse part is 9" long, 8" high no holes in this item. You can see that it had black and gold paint on it at one time. I have about 5 of these old weather vanes from the same collection from old barn in Arkansas.

Here's a Great Antique 19th Century American Running Horse Weathervane with Copper Body and Cast Iron Head. Offered at NO RESERVE! The weathervane measures approximately 24 and 1/4" long and stands about 15" tall. For the age and use it's in Very Good Condition; it has a variegated verdigris and rust patination which to me looks phenomenal. The head is rusty but solid, and there appear to be several filled holes here and there. Under the head the seam is split somewhat but that could be repaired. Of course there are dents, dings, and so forth, but nothing I would rate as being negative. As far as the history, it came off a barn in Fair Haven, NJ, which was built in the 1870s, and remained in the same family until I acquired it recently. Weather Vane: Antique High-Stepping Horse, Painted Iron, 33" Tall x 31.5" Wide
Weather Vane: Antique High-Stepping Horse, Painted Iron. 33" Tall x 31.5" Wide This is a really handsome Weather Vane featuring a high-stepping horse. I acquired him on a visit to South Dakota to see a friend with whom I was at university. The Horse and his Arrow are both made of heavy gage iron and seem to have several coats of paint. He is quite large and impressive. And it is a little difficult to make out his complicated patina with the different layers of paint. I think you can see this best in the details of the Horse's head and tail. As he stands now on his wooden stand. He is 33 inches tall and 30 1/2 inches wide. The Horse himself is 18 3/4 inches tall from his hooves to the top of his ears, and 24 inches long from the front of his raised leg to the tip of his flying tail. The arrow is 31 1/2 inches long, and is made ... moreof quarter inch iron. On one side he has a heavy strap support which is bolted on. And on the other side he has two sturdy holders for his support rod. They are also bolted. And both the holders and support strap are made of iron. The support rod was with the Horse when I first met hm, but I do not think he is as old as the Horse. I added the bit of hollow black steel and a copper footing at the bottom of the support rod to give the figure more visual stability. And I made the wooden stand from a piece of old beam when our barn home was reconstructed. This horse has always seemed to me to have both a noble and very cheerful feeling about him. With his high-stepping, his flying tail and his grin, which is still visible on one side. The other side seems to have suffered more wear and the smile has all but disappeared there. I am almost positive that this Horse is the work of some local craftsman. Rather than a mass producted piece. And my best guess is that he probably dates to the early years of the last century. Ethan Allen was a champion Morgan horse trotter. Renowned in the Racing Hall of Fame, and a horse that you see in many Currier and Ives prints. This and many other vanes of the late 1800's were derived from the Currier and Ives images. The relatively small size of this one makes it special- 30" from the tip of the tail to the foremost leg. 17 1/2" from the ear to the cross piece, a perfect size for display. It appears that this vane. Like many ... moreof its era, was shot at. Pictures 8,9,11 show what look to be filled bullet holes- I believe these repairs were done a long time ago, judging from the verdigris on and around them. There are some intermmitant seam separations on the back(picture 3) belly(picture 6) and chest(picture 5) and minor denting. The iron head appears to have been smoothed due to inevitable rust with some kind of filler- hard to tell- with some in-painting. Most of the vibrant chrome yellow paint appears to be original- the bits of brighter yellow here and there are not as stable as the rest and may have been added later. That said, the surface is striking, with the wonderful color interspersed with the verdigris of the copper showing through. There is no stand. Great sculptural shape. Exceptional detail to the mane(picture 10) and tail(picture 12) No breaks(except for the seam separations as noted above) or missing parts. Found in New Hampshire, it dates from the late 1800's. Antique Copper/ Iron Trotting HORSE Weather Vane This weather vane is old. I just can't say for sure how old. It stands 20" tall and the base measures about 9" wide. The arrow measures 10" long. This weather vane seems to me to be copper and/or copper plate over iron. It is fairly heavy and as you can see in the photos, there is a distinct copper tarnish all over the piece which gives it a beautiful patina. There is also some surface rust present which might mean it has iron in the metal also. This item is in good condition, please see photos for more detail. The ball is split in the middle so it is in two pieces- but it may be made that way. I will take this item apart when I ship. US buyers to pay $16.00 for USPS shipping from 65559. WEATHER VANE: Antique Horse. Painted Iron. 19" Tall x 31.5" Wide This is a really wonderful Weather Vane featuring a trotting Horse and a very long arrow. I acquired him on a visit to South Dakota to see a friend with whom I was at university. The Horse and his Arrow and the Directionals are all made of heavy gauge iron and seem to have several coats of paint and a good deal of rust which makes for a complex and beautiful patina. The Supporting Rod is also iron As he stands now on his wooden stand. He is 19 inches tall and 30 1/2 inches wide. The Horse himself is 6 1/2 inches tall from his hooves to the top of his ears, and 13 1/2 inches long from the front of his raised leg to the tip of his flying tail. The arrow is 22 3/4 inches long, and the Directionals, 18 inches long. I am almost positive that this Horse is the work of some ... morelocal craftsman. Rather than a mass produced piece. The turning device is beautifully and sturdily made with a hollow 3 inch thick walled shaft which slips over a smaller solid iron rod at the top of the Supporting Rod. My best guess is that this Vane probably dates to the early years of the last century. The surface is completely stable. And, apart from the obvious bend in the part of the Arrow on which Horse is attached, there is no damage to the Horse or the rest of the Vane. And he still turns cheerfully on his Rod. The photographs give an excellent idea of the quality and appeal of this wonderful example of American Primitive Art. If you should have any questions. Please don't hesitate to contact me. Here we have for sale an antique hard to find 1890's brass hollow body two piece horse weathervane. The arrow is 24" long and made if cast iron. It has a twisted wire back which tells you it's an early piece. The horse is 11" long and 6" tall. It is made of two pieces of brass. Horse has a fair amount of the gold gilding still on it. There is some bullet damage that has been repaired with solder years ago. This vane didn't see a long life outdoors by the looks of it. It is an authentic antique piece that's for sure. This style running horse does not turn up often these days. What you see is what you get.

I Do not Know if it is Original Paint or not and all of The paint shows signs of age and there is minor surface rust here and there, Very Minimal) It was found in the NC Mountains in a Hay loft of an Old Barn. 1880-1890 HIGHLY DETAILED Cast Iron Horse Head Lightning Rod Weathervane
You are bidding on this OLD 1880-1890's ALL Original HEAVY Cast Iron Running Horse Head From an Early Copper Horse Weathervane.Meas. approx. 7"H X 8"L.This was found in Southwestern.PA recently.Shows a HIGHLY detailed HEAVY two piece horse head with open mouth and ears back.This was a two piece head that was soldiered together originally.The heavy copper sheeting is still present in the neck area.Overall condition very good.Expected HEAVY pitting and rust from many years of roof top service.Copper neck area is well creased/bent with split seams, one small hole, and small split(see photo) but incredibly STRONG!This was found painted white.The paint had to be removed and as you can see the restoration got a little aggressive showing some shined copper on neck area and especially in mane area.This can be easily repatinated if you ... morewish.Zinc mane no longer present.No sure of maker but most likely one of the five well known:L.W.
