Old cast iron kite tail lightning rod arrow with original purple/dark plum glass insert and mounting ferrule. The glass is textured. Bubbled on one side and wavy on the other. The top of the ferrule is flared out which prevents easy removal; it has verdigris and remains of black paint. The set screw turns freely. Antique Lightning Rod Weathervane Arrow Ruby Red Glass Tail
This antique lightning weathervane is made of cast iron with rudy red glass tail. Please see in picture 2 there is damage to the tail. Where one of the iron decorative swirls came off at the bottom. Measures 18 1/2 inches long. There is some rusting. There is slight damage, imperfections to the glass two corners of the glass has been chipped, slightly noticeable, but not large enough to have major damage. There is also an area at the edge there is a spot where its a clear glass that has formed a slight appearance of clouding, it appears to be either manufacturing imperfection in the glass or it got hit by lighting? Please see photos. If you can't spot the areas where there is imperfections please let me know that you would like to view it and i will post a photo.

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL. ORIGINAL, ANTIQUE PIECE. This fine. Cased, ruby-red, cut-to-clear piece of glass was used in an authentic antique lightning rod weather vane. Measuring 4 1/2" x 2 1/8" it was either soldered into the tail of a cast iron weathervane or was held in by clips on the opening. This particular one shows signs of having been soldered in including faint stains on the edges and very small chips on the corners, but it would work in either type without showing those flaws. The drawing above shows the type of vane it was made for, but it will work in many other styles. Antique Lightning Rod Weathervane Arrow Barnett System Glass Tail Aluminum
Up for auction is an antique lightning rod weathervane arrow. This arrow measures 19 1/2" long and 4 3/8" at its widest. Barnett System arrows were made in several varieties. This is the Barnett System Aluminum arrow with script style writing etched on the red and clear glass tail. This arrow has what is known as a"common front" which is stamped"203" The Barnett System arrows are unusual in that the company used 2 screw tab holders for the glass tail where other companies used 1 fixed and 1 screw tab holder to hold the glass in place. The glass is intact and in excellent condition with no chipping or cracks. Note there is no staining on the glass as aluminum arrows did not produce staining the way cast iron arrows did. There are no breaks. Repairs, or cracks to the aluminum arrow. The holes are made to fit on ... morea standard tube rod.approx 3/4" in diameter. The vane itself is in good, solid condition. The glass is not vintage and is a replacement I made. I can custom make glass inserts for all glass tailed wind vane styles that you may have. Antique 18" Weathervane Lightning Rod Cast Iron Arrow Red Glass Tail insert
Discovered in an estate sale. Obviously everything is original and tail glass is complete with no chips or cracks. We purposely did not clean this item other than to wipe the glass with a damp cloth so it could be completely inspected. This was an estate of ham radio enthusiasts and this was mounted on their roof for a very long time. We were told that this one and one other we're listing separately. Were taken down in the late 60's and stored in the basement. We'll be listing one other identical piece; however. The glass is broken.
