Aged patina. The glass ball is made of white milkglass. I do not see any markings of any kind on this ball. The total thing stands 5 feet 5" tall with the tripod going straight down. The ball is about 4" in diameter. The heavy metal ground wire went from one lightening rod to the next and finally down the corner of the house and was securely anchored in the ground several inches with a long metal stake. I have for auction a beautiful Green glass lightning rod ball/ globe. It measures approx 5.5" the openings are approx. 1 1/4" on the outside and 1" on the inside of the hole. I see the bubbles in the glass as well as the dimples too that just shows how old this is. It could use a cleaning but will leave that up to the winning bidder. I do not see any cracks or chips except around the openings(see pics) nothing to bad. If you have the caps they will cover the chips on the ends. It is smooth glass and looks like it was made in a two piece mold. It has metal caps on each end. It is dirty and has a film on the inside of the glass. This item is being sold as is. This glass ball came from a barn in North central Kansas. Please study all the photos carefully as they are the best description. This rod& ball is one of four removed from a barn built over 100 years ago! Small chip on ball(see gallery picture) NO cracks! This auction includes a 23" long cast iron arrow frame with a piece of very deep red glass in the tail end. The glass has the name"KRETZER" etched on it. The cast iron frame is very pitted ... morefrom many years of being out in the elements. The thick piece of red glass has rust staining on the edges. As pictured, and some edge flaking. The clear side of the glass has small bubbles in it that are very neat looking. The piece of glass is held in the tail with one tab that is cast as part of the frame. And one brass tab that is held in with a small threaded brass screw. The hole for the rod to slide thru is the large size for use on a star, or twisted lightning rod. This is a very nice old example to add to your collection, you will love it for sure! This arrow vane is advertised for sale in a 1948 National Lightning Rod Protection Co. Catalog. It was sold in an 18" 23" size. Also advertised for sale in both a cast iron frame and a copper bronze frame. The copper bronze example has two cast tabs that are holding the glass in the frame. The 18" copper bronze frame has a very pretty green patina. The last three pictures show catalog pages with KRETZER arrow vanes and descriptions and an example of a copper bronze frame showing the green color they turn.
