I took this off my farmhouse roof when I put a metal roof on. The farmhouse is early 1900's vintage.not sure how old the ball is! 4 1/2 inch diameter. It has a chip out of the top that should be covered when the cap is installed(not included)

Excellent vintage set of 4 Cobalt Blue glass weathervane pendants or Christmas ornament solid glass balls. Each ball measures 1" in diameter and has a screw-on brass cap with great patina and a attachment loop. One of the brass fittings has a stress crack but it fits securly on the ball. 3 of the balls have some very minor chips from being outside. Item is described and shown as best I can. Beautiful iron lightning rod/weathervane with cobalt blue glass ball and hollow pig without bullet holes. I have never seen one of these rods with a pig in better condition. Rod stands 36" tall with a 22 1/2" arrow. Pig measures 8 1/2" long X 4 5/8" high. Has a small hole in the top which shows in the picture. Ball is 4 1/2" across with a crack on one side. I have tried to show this crack in the picture. Will not deter from displaying this beautiful piece as it's only on one side. This is truly a beautiful lightning rod/weathervane. It looks like something from out of this world by its shape and design. This old lightning rod ball is in near mint condition. With the slight exception of an area where there is a glaze chip on the top, that looks to have been done in the manufacturing process(see pictures to determine) This lightning rod ball looks like it was well taken care of from the elements, as there are no scratches, chips or hairlines. It was totally covered in black soot when recovered, and an overnight soak in oxalic acid did the trick. This example was found in the southwestern area of Pennsylvania in farm ... morecountry. These were used on the old 1/2 inch twisted copper wire rods as both the openings are barely 3/4" wide at both ends. This ball measures 4 1/4" tall, and is 4" in diameter. It is quite heavy for its size. Interesting with the fancy stepped designs at either end, with the flat side in the center. Please see all the pictures as they tell the full story. This is a really nice full set of cobalt blue lightning rod ball. Pendants and pendant hanger. The 4 1/2" ball is marked Shinn Systems but not the Pendants. The hanger is included in this sale along with the 4 pendants and the round ball but not the rod itself. The whole set seem to be in very good original condition with no cracks or chips that are noticeable. The ball and pendants have a lot of imperfections in the glass and the pendants are pleated in shape. The 4-1/2' ball has on imperfection by one of the caps looks like a very small chip or mold issue and very small also, the 4- 1/2" ball holes are not perfectly centered in the ball. Hard to find 6 by 6.5 inch 1891 arrow roof glass. These were often used with the Bergoon ball system. They were inserted into a channel on the roof and were very attractive. Generally used on old Victorian homes. I was fortunately to see one in use in Vincenes. Indiana in the late 1970s. Couple of light chips on the glass that was in the channel but overall very nice. 2 lbs priority mail and I do combine orders to save on shipping when possible. GREAT GARDEN OR INTERIOR PIECE OF ANTIQUE AMERICANA! Franklin Co. STAR shaped lightning rod. Ben Franklin invented lightning rods.and this piece is from his lightning rod company! Google The Franklin Institute Science Museum to see their collection. This is one of Ben's beautiful rods. Hundreds of years old and embossed BFRC(Ben Franklin Rod Company) on the polished and lacquered brass tip. It has been lovingly and professionally refurbished and I'd on excellent condition. The copper star shaped(twisted) rod has been polished and lacquered as has the brass bayonet tip/finial. It has an incredibly warm. Soft copper glow and the point is shiny. The matching twisted iron antique stand was cleaned of rust and painted flat black. It stands 70 inches tall. It comes with two antique round glass balls.a very deep. Copper Lightning Rod with Iron Mount Bracket and Pleated Cobalt Blue Glass Ball
This 1930's lightning rod is in very good condition. It seems that the green patina on the copper rod has protected it from the elements very well. The iron mounting bracket is intact. In good condition and functional, but does have some pitting. The 4 1/2" pleated cobalt blue ball is flawless. The glass is clear(not fogged) no cracks or chips. There are rough spots at the hole(s) openings, but I think this is normal casting marks. There are no caps. The copper rod is 57" and the 3 leg mounting bracket is 35" My plan is to ship the glass ball seperatly from the lightning rod and mount.
