This one is powder blue milk glass. It is 3 3/4 inches in diameter and a total of 5 inches tall. The inside diameter of the rod hole is 7/8 of an inch. Very Rare, Early Vintage 3.5" Ruby Glass Lightning Rod Ball, Embossed On Rim
This is a very rare 3.5" Ruby Glass Ball with fluted ribs. It looks to have the correct embossing on rim; it is faint. But you can make out"PAT JULY.77" This came out of my Grandparents Estate. He was an electrician and rod installer from roughly 1940-1980. This was packed up in his barn with other items. Also, I sold the another of this type ball awhile back to a collector and he confirmed it authenticity. So, with all that, I'm confident that this is an original and not a reproduction. This is a very rare 3.5 lightning rod ball. White milk glass with the metal caps. And it's NOS and still in original box! This is not a reproduction. It's the real deal. It came out of my Grandparents' estate. My step-Grandfather was a lightning rod installer and electrician. found this at an old farm auction. very nice piece. milk ball is about 5" cow is about 9" long and about 6" tall over all 16" from bottom to tip and almost 20" wide. found one like it on ebay and it said it was a New Jersey. Farm fresh, antique 1890's weathervane but I am not an expert so please see pics and judge for yourself. Deep Red Amber 3.5 Inch Ribbed Lighting Rod Ball
Interesting lightning rod ball. In the past I've had this ball in dark red. SCA and light amber but I've never seen it in the dark red amber color. That makes me think that this is not an old ball but rather a Roderfer item or a repro. The glass is very heavy, much more so than the old 3.5 inch ribbed balls. 2 lbs. This is a very rare 3.5" Wine Glass Ball with fluted ribs. It is NOS. No weathering. It looks to have the correct embossing on rim. You can clearly make out"PAT JULY 3rd 77" Collectors have told me this is a rare Canadian model. This came out of my Grandparents Estate. He was an electrician and rod installer from roughly 1940-1980. This was packed up in his barn with other items in his collection. I've sold many balls from this collection to happy collectors! Very Rare Antique Lightning Rod Ball: 3.5" Fluted. Wine Colored, End Caps. This is the real deal, not a repop. It is embossed on rim. It came out of my grandparents estate.
