Im not sure if its all hand hammer or if its copper brass or bronze nor its exact age ... moreyou collectors will be the judge. I can tell you its very very old i could not find another one like it any ware on the computer. It looks like the person who owned it has a old drill bit and screw it on to a old antique block of solid wood. It does screw off its not welded on the drill bit. When you look at the bottom ware screw threads are it begins with a white metal but then it turns into a brass color metal so thats why i my self think its solid brass or bronze but again you collectors will be the judge. Please see the very close up picture of the threads and you will see exactly what i mean about the threads turning into a brass color after the first 4 or 5 threads. If any one can tell me any information about it please do. From the point of his beck to the tail its around 16 1/2 inches long. then from top of tail to bottom of tail its almost 10 inches long. then from his belly to top of his head around 12 inches tall then from one side of his body to other side its around 3 1/4 inches fat. Then when sitting on the block from the bottom block of wood to the top of the head its around 26 1/2 inches tall. The wood base it self is 2 1/2 inches thick and left to right around 6 1/2 and front to back around 6 inches long. Still in very good solid condtion i do not see anything broken at all. Again if any one can please tell me who made this and its exact age and what its made of i thank you very much for your help. This was found from the same estate sale as my old antique Gothic chandeliers plus a very old hunting duck hat with old pins on it that i have listed on ebay please have a look at them if you like. Green verdigris, as well as some crusty white paint in places. It's in good overall condition, but there are some BB dings on the feather. The end tips of the feather are bent. The end of the rod is worn and a bit ragged. There is a dent in the spire on the Witch's cap, and the tip of it is bent also. I have for auction a beautiful Green glass lightning rod ball/ globe. It measures approx 5.5" the openings are approx. 1 1/4" on the outside and 1" on the inside of the hole. I see the bubbles in the glass as well as the dimples too that just shows how old this is. It could use a cleaning but will leave that up to the winning bidder. I do not see any cracks or chips except around the openings(see pics) nothing to bad. If you have the caps they will cover the chips on the ends. Here we have for sale a lightning rod with an old green glass weathervane. Stand is 3 ft. tall made of twisted wires. Insulators are embossed C.B.F.R. on one and Ohio Lightning Rod on the other. RARE antique Green Pumpkin Lightning Rod Ball Weather Vane
A very rare example of an early"green pumpkin" lightning rod ball. Early examples like this are made from a thinner glass. Thus very few survive. This one is a beautiful combination of the early pumpkin shape with a light green color. The ends are a bit chipped up, but it will still display nicely. I have an original lightning rod arrow weathervane with green glass. This Arrow measures 21 1/2 inches long. The arrow is in good condition for its age. It has a small amount of rust and well pitted from age. I would consider this to be the original glass but could be wrong. It is not in good shape. Has been glued as seen in picture and is missing a small piece at corner. There is a gap where the glass and the framing do not match up well. This is a Bright( Gray Green"Flat Quilt" style lightning rod ball. It is genuine authentic and antique. With large holes for use on iron rods. The collars are in superb condition, perfect as far as ball collectors are concerned. The ball is in amazing condition with no chips or cracks. The color is a beautiful gray green. Almost teal. With a bit of interior dirt/staining from being up on a house for so many years. Very Stunning, incredible color! There is also staining at the collars, maybe from their proximity to the rusty iron rod. I have not cleaned this ball other than a outer surface wipe. So it can be cleaned further if you wish.
