WEATHER VANE: Antique Eagle Rampant. Gilded Iron& Copper. Late 1900's, 30.5"Tall x 24" Wide If you set your monitor at FULL SCREEN from TOOLS you will be better able to view the photos. This is a very interesting and vigorous Weather Vane topper I bought years ago near Nashua. New Hampshire. It features an Eagle Rampant; that is, an Eagle in the attack position. It is a peculiarly American design and one which has been used in times of war. I believe this Eagle dates form the late 1800's. The previous owner thought he dated from the early 1800's; I think he is a little later. But I may be mistaken. A similar design sold recently by one of the large auction houses in New York. The body of our Eagle is made of thick sheet iron; the top spike and ball are copper. The body of the Eagle is bolted to a hollow supporting ... morerod which I believe is brass. The whole figure has been gilded. There appear to be some traces of an undercoat of a mustard color which was sometimes used on these older vanes so that when the gilding started to wear it would not be so obvious when viewed from the ground. As he is now on his wooden stand. This Eagle is 30 1/2 inches tall and 24 inches wide. The Eagle himself is 19 1/4 inches tall from his talons to the top of his wings and 24 inches long from the point of his beak to the back of his tail feathers. The gilding is worn and a few of the small points of the tail feathers are slightly bent. But other than this, the Eagle is in pretty good shape. The bolts are still strong and secure and there are no structural issues. The photos give an excellent idea of this example of a particularly American design for a Weather Vane. WEATHER VANE/ FLAGPOLE TOPPER: Antique Eagle. Gilded Metals, 17" Tall x 11" Wide If you set your monitor at FULL SCREEN from TOOLS you will be better able to view the photos. This is a beautifully modeled and cast antique Eagle made from a metal which I cannot identify except to say that it is non-ferric. The ball is gilded copper. The gilding was applied over a heavy coat of mustard colored sizing which was sometimes used on objects meant for outdoors so that when the gilding started to wear. It wouldn't be so obvious. Much of the gilding and some of the yellow undercoat has worn away from exposure to the elements. I bought this Eagle in New Hampshire more than twenty years ago in a shop along Route 401 that runs between Concord and Portsmouth. It used to be called"Antique Alley" as there were dozens of fine antique ... morestores along the way. I haven't been back in a long time. But the last time I made that run, there were many fewer stores than there used to be. The man from whom I bought this Eagle told me he thought it was part of an old Weather Vane. Maybe. But I don't think so. It looks me as if it may have been meant to go on top of a flag pole. Except that it is much too finely modeled. The feathers are all beautifully articulated and the wings are differentiated from each other. The left wing is raised slightly higher and the tips of its end feathers are more curved than those of the right wing. If it was meant for a flag pole, it must have been a special one. Or it could have been part of some other kind monument which would have been visible at a much closer range than a flag pole. Frankly, I don't really know. But I do know that it is a beautiful thing. On his wooden stand. This Eagle measures 17 1/4 inches tall. The Eagle and the ball are 10 1/2 inches tall. From wingtip to wingtip, he is 11 1/4 inches wide and from his beak to the tip of his tail feathers, he is 6 1/8 inches long. There doesn't seem to be any damage to the figure and the surface is completely stabl

Since the day the farmer removed this vane it has been displayed on a 5 ½” diameter by 6 ½” tall carved walnut base. The eagle has a 17” wingspan. Which would have been longer, but one wing is in poor condition. It is bent and there are separations on the seams and a couple of bullet holes, one which caused a small piece on the front of the wing to fly off. The other wing has a couple of bullet holes also, but is in better condition with only some slight bends to the copper. There is another bullet hole in the body and both feet are missing. The original owner must have removed this weathervane, before it was complete shot up. If you see the primitive charm in this small American Folk Art Eagle Weathervane like it do, then you’ll be glad to know it is listed without any reserve. Hi and thanks for visiting this auction! This is an original hand made Copper Eagle Weathervane probably dating to the late 1800's or early 1900's. It is in beautiful condition as it has been on display inside for the last 40 years or so. Look close at the pictures and please ask questions before you bid! The beak shows some damage as shown in the picture. But it doesn't take away from the overall beauty of the piece. The wingspan measures about 21" it stands about 51" from the top of a wing to the base of the mounting bracket. You are bidding on the whole unit, this includes the Eagle and the copper ball he is attached to, the small ball below that, the arrow, the directional unit, another ball, the rod and mounting base. LARGE ANTIQUE COPPER & ZINC MOLDED EAGLE WEATHERVANE 36 INCH WINGSPAN
This large antique copper and zinc molded weathervane stands approx. 26 inches tall and has a 36 inch wingspan. This rare lerge size weathervane is made of molded copper with zinc feet. The weathervane retains much of its original gilding. However, there is old yellow paint over most of the gilding. Some of the gilding on the wings has recently peeled off exposing the brown copper underneath, however, there are other areas where the gilding came off years ago and the copper has turned green. The eagle itself is in very good condition, however, there is a small dent in the ball. There are some cracks in copper rod that holds the eagle to the ball. Overall very good condition. As with all my items I am starting this auctin at $9.99 with NO RESERVE!

WEATHER VANE: Antique Washburn Eagle. Gilded Copper, Late 1800's. 27.24" x 23.5" This is a terrific Weather Vane featuring a gilded Eagle perched on a globe with his wings outstretched and his arrow beneath which I acquired years ago at Medford Circle. West of Nashua New Hampshire. I am as sure as I can be that this Eagle was made by E.G. Washburn& Company of New York in the late 1800's. Below is an image of an almost identical Eagle auctioned in the last few years. And attributed as I have attributed the present one, by one of the large houses in New York City: The distinguishing characteristic of the lowered head is the same in both Eagles. The seams in our Eagle are all joined with a wide solder. In a more crude fashion, as can be expected in an earlier vane. Most of the gilding has been worn away. Especially on the ... moretop surfaces of the wings, tail and back, which were naturally more subject to weathering forces. A coat of verdigris had developed on most of the exposed surfaces, but the verdigris does not cover the solder joints, as the latter are not copper. This is a tell for authenticity. The post below the ball is worn and the bottom of the sleeve is split. Exhibiting wear according to its term of use from spinning round and round on the mount for many years. A few of the very ends of the fletchings of the arrow are bent as expected wear. T he small screw which holds the arrow in place is a later replacement But on the whole. This Eagle is in very good antique condition and he still turns proudly on his supporting rod. As our Eagle stands on his wooden support. He is 27 1/4 inches tall and 23 1/2 inches long. His wingspan is 20 inches. The end of the arrow rod is sealed. The photos give a very good idea of the beauty and power of this fine Antique Eagle Weather Vane. If you should have any questions. I'm not sure of the exact age of the piece or it's maker. So I'll leave that up to the pros to determine that. And I hate to even sell it but I really don't have a place to put it. And it's time that this thing sees some daylight and is displayed properly. The visible flaws I found when inspecting it. Can be seen in the pictures and are as listed. It does need some repair. One wing needs the Soldering repaired on a small split. The other wing has been pushed in a bit on the body. And needs to be pulled out and reset and resoldered. And attributed as I have attributed the present one, by one of the large houses in New York City: The distinguishing characteristic of the lowered head is the same in both Eagles. The seams in our Eagle are all joined with a wide solder. In a more crude fashion, as can be expected in an earlier vane. Much of the gilding has been worn away. Especially on the top surfaces of ... morethe wings, tail and back, which were naturally more subject to weathering forces. A coat of verdigris had developed on most of the exposed surfaces, but the verdigris does not cover the solder joints, as the latter are not copper. This is a tell for authenticity. A faked verdigris surface will almost always cover at least some of the seams. The very ends of the fletchings of the arrow are bent a little as expected wear. But on the whole. This Eagle is in very good antique condition and he still turns proudly on his supporting rod. As our Eagle stands on his support. He is 20 inches tall and 15 1/4 inches long. The wingspan is 11 1/2 inches. The end of the arrow rod is sealed. The photos give a very good idea of the beauty and power of this fine Antique Eagle Weather Vane. If you should have any questions. Antique Molded Copper Full Bodied Eagle Weather Vane Old Soldered Joints
Antique Full bodied Molded Copper Eagle Weathervane. Nice old patina but does have spots of old blue paint here and there. The post or rod to hold it all together is missing. The Eagle has a wing span of 24-1/4" wide. One foot is missing off ball other foot is a little loose. The directional arrow measures 21-1/2" long and is bent in a few spots and seam is separated near fletching. The hole below arrow is clogged with old wood from missing rod or post. Old thick soldered joints are all visible and aged in color differently from eagle itself. Vintage Antique Copper Eagle Weather Vane Estate find. This is a nice 3 dimensional Copper Eagle Weathervane. Because of the style as a full bodied piece it can be displayed in smaller spaces. The Eagle measures 16" from the head to the tip of the tail and the wing span is about 24" It is nicely viewed from all sides and has a nice patterned texture and features. Antique Molded Copper Eagle Weathervane. Nice. Old, original patina. The rest of the weathervane is missing. You are buying exactly what is pictured. The Eagle has a wing span of 18-1/2 inches wide. Measures roughly 19 inches tall from bottom of ball to top of wings. Inside of right talon is not soldered onto ball, but outside of right talon has a nice sturdy solder. I believe this is all original. Old thick soldered joints are all visible and aged in color differently from eagle itself. The eagle's beak is a little distorted/bent. Antique vintage beautiful copper brass eagle arrow weathervane with stand
Up for auction to U.S. customers for local pickup only is a very nice old eagle weathervane. It comes with a nice cast iron stand that the rod fits into. It stands 50 inches from ground to the top of the wings; the wings measure 22 inches across and the eagle itself is about 16 inches high. As I hope the pictures show. The piece has great patina and no damage(although the arrow is tilted slightly) This disassembles into 6 pieces- the eagle, arrow, lower ball, 2 directional and the stand. Between the stand and the rod I can't see how this would all fit securely into a shipping box so it is for pickup only. I have no history on it other than the people at the sale where I picked it up claimed they had found it on a barn in Pennsylvania. I don't know that for sure, nor do I know its age: the experts out there can probably figure out ... morewhen it was made based on certain features of the bird.
