Antique Cast Iron Lightning Rod / Weathervane Arrow Amber Glass w Globe Ends 20"
I purchased this Lightning Rod Arrow with Amber Textured Glass Tail Insert at a farm estate sale here in rural WV. It is a cast metal probably cast iron and has ornate decorative work. The glass ball had been broken years before and the farmer had tied the ends for the glass ball onto the arrow so I left them. They are some sort of light metal and one has a bend but can be straightened. The arrow measures 20" and I see no damage other than some oxidation and light scraping.

This listing is for an amber glass. Clear lightning rod ornament/ball. The ornamant has copper rings on both ends but has no maker or other identifying marks or embossings. There are smooth, but visible, mold seams running down each side of the ball. The amber rings are replacements and were added to the ball, using plaster as a bonding agent, in the early 1980's. The amber glass is clear and free from any stains, cracks or chips. Please see pictures for further details. Here we have for sale an antique and quite rare AMBER PEE WEE or RIBBED HORIZONTAL lightning rod ball. This ball is in mint condition and it's dirty as found on a roof. You'll never have to upgrade with this one. These are extremely hard to find balls and it took me 20+ years to talk the homeowners out of them. I originally got 5 sold 2 last year and I'm now offering this one. Which will be the last. If this doesn't sell I will not list it again for a lesser price. This Amber Lightening ball is very old. But i don't know for sure. It was one of several put on a 1800's farmhouse. The pictures I took, I wanted to point out the lines in the ball, the bubbles, and the original glass's gloss. If I can find 2 ball end covers, I will send them. when the glass is blown for these lightening ball glass it is to be expected that where the glass holes end, it wont be a perfect edge. 1891 Arrow Shaped AMBER Lightning Rod Ball Roof Glass
Great item in good condition with only a bit of age mars. Its in great condition. This one is embossed Dec. 1. 91 As noted in photo 2. It is about 6.5 by 6 inches in size. These were often used with the Bergoon ball system and they were inserted into channels and were sealed into a channel along the crest of the roof. A a bit of the original sealant is still on the glass but can easily be cleaned. Nice item. I do combine orders to save on shipping. This is the 1891 roof glass that was commonly used with the Bergoon ball lightning rod system. It is about 6.5 inches tall and has not been cleaned as it still has the original stick-em that was used to hold the glass in the metal channel on the roofs.
