This Estate Sale Tantalus Set is heavy ornately designed crystal on a four sides. With brass caps& holder, the hang tags are reversible and say Vodka/Bourbon/Scotch or Rye as you choose. The set is 8 pounds for shipping, well designed& solid. The brass shows some pitting due to age& usage wear, it hasn't been cleaned, but, should polish up nicely. I felt a rough spot on one corner of one decanter when I removed it from the holder to check it's condition, a small corner chip that you don't see and doesn't interfere with the integrity or usability of the set. The decanters are 10 3/4" H, and, in the holder the overall height is 14" 7 6/8" W and 4" D, both pumps work and the insider feeding straw is present on each one. I don't see a makers mark ShipSaver. For your consideration. Hard to Find Complete Vintage ~ Antique Glass Crystal& Brass Tantalus Set Lock& Keys Inc. What a wonderful estate find this Tantalus is! It is a beautifully ornately cut crystal glass decanters and a brass metal locking Tantalus. This set contains the Tantalus. Two decanters with brass pump action caps with feeding tubes/straws, two brass reversible liquor hang tags, one lock, two keys. The reversible hang tags read Bourbon. Scotch on one side and Rye, Vodka on the other side. The decanters measure 10 ¾ inches tall to the top of the caps and 3 inches square. The overall measurements of the Tantalus is 13 inches tall to the top of the handle. 8 inches wide and 4 inches deep. The lock measures approx. ¾ inch by 1 inch. The lock is marked WALSCO GENIUNE BRASS U.S.A. No other markings can be found on ... morethis set as to the age and maker. The two little keys measure approx. ¾ inch long. Antique Wooden and Brass Tantalus with Three Decanters and Stoppers
This is an item called a tantalus. It is a wooden frame or holder for 3 liquor or wine bottles. The owner would place his liquor in the bottles. Lock the lid, and tantalize the servants, who could not open the bottles! To further deter theft, one stopper is shorter than the others and the bottles will only fit into certain slots. The tantalus is 14 ½” 37 cm) wide, 5” 13 cm) deep, and 12 ½” 32 cm) high. There are 3 cut glass decanters with glass stoppers. There is a lock in the lid. But the key is missing. There are two latches on the lid, but one is missing, so I would not carry it by the handle. There is a metal plaque on the front, but with no engraving. There are no marks or maker name on the item. There is one metal tag on a chain that says“Whiskey” which is probably silver-plated. It was purchased in England in the early 1960s. ... moreAnd it was old then. One very small ¼” chip in the mouth of one decanter, and another ¼” chip in one stopper. Other than that, it is very good condition with gentle wear from use.

Complete French 19thC Inlaid Brass Boulle Tantalus Crystal Decanters & Stems
19thC Antique Inlaid Brass Boulle Scroll All The Way Down For More Pictures Wow what a great piece! This is a serpentine front French 19th Century Liquor Cave or Tantalus and inlaid with brass. I think the wood is rosewood and the cabinet is lacquered with a fine ornate brass inlay and a red inlay. But not sure of what the red material is. This Tantalus was quite fancy when new and it was used and not just for show. Several of the cordials are worn on the bottom while others still retain their sharp edges on the corners of their base. I cleaned the decanters which still had the dried stain of what I assumed was alcohol. Please scroll down and view all the pictures showing the detail of the stemware, the decanters, and the condition of the case which unfortunately is not perfect. The decanters and cordials are of high quality crystal. They ... moreare not signed which is the norm for crystal of this age. Baccarat did not sign. Or etch, their crystal with their logo until the 1930s and while I do not know if this is Baccarat it certainly has their characteristic style, especially the stoppers. The decanters have a fine polished pontil and wonderful clean lines. Each decanter indents in the center and has a wonderful square flat top stopper and a cylindrical neck leading to the decanter opening. The cordials sit on a square foot and have the same lines as the decanters. This incredible Tantalus comes with a caddy allowing for the decanters and glasses to be carried to another room or removed from the case for easy access. The bottom rows containing the glasses slides out which is the only way to remove the glass. This set was expertly designed. But I must say that while the caddy seems to handle the weight of the crystal it makes me nervous because the crystal is rather heavy. There are 4 decanters. And 16 cordials. I think they are all original but I have no way of swearing to this. One of the decanters has a different mouth opening than the other 3 but other than that, it is identical. Antique Locking Oak and Brass Tantalus Caddy 3 Cut Glass Decanters
Antique locking oak and brass tantalus caddy with three cut glass decanters with cane pattern. The overall measurement is 12 1/2" high(including handle) x 14" wide x 5 1/4" deep. The overall condition is excellent. The key is original and included. The locking mechanism is in excellent working condition. The top of the tantalus rotates up to allow the decanters to be removed. The polished brass finish on the center handle has worn off to the brass. The decanters are 8 1/2" high(to the top of the stopper) x 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" I have not been able to remove one of the stoppers from its decanter. There is a very small amount of clear liquid inside this decanter(less than a teaspoon) The other two stoppers have slightly flattened areas on the rounded sides on the region that fits onto the decanter. I have tried to show ... morethis in the 9th photo. There are two tiny"flea bites" on the very end that fits into the decanter on one stopper and one very tiny"flea bite" on the other also on the end edge where it fits into the decanter. The decanter on the left in the first photo has slightly milky areas on the onside base. Also. On the middle decanter there is an indentation in the middle outside of the base that I am assuming is the remainder of the pontil mark. I have tried to show this in the 12th photo. The bases of the decanters are polished. There are no chips or cracks in the decanters. The fitted green felts in the caddy that the decanters sit on have been replaced. Antique Victorian Tantalus Mahogany and Crystal and Brass Circa 1880
This piece was recently dated to pre 1900 by an expert in the field. Gorgeous original Tantalus offered for auction. I purchased this piece 12 years ago. The bottles were are not the size of the normal decanter ~ more like perfume bottles. During the time this was sold originally. The bottles could have held very fine liqueurs for ladies. The bottle in the middle is not part of the matching set ~ although it may be the more valuable of the three due to its sterling silver collar and the makers marks. Additionally. It's possible the stopper to one of the other bottles is not original. It doesn't seem to fit securely in the neck of the bottle like the other one does ~ but that could just be my OCD; Overall. Considering this 7 piece set is about 140 years old.it's in remarkable shape. The linings are also very nicely preserved. There ... moreis no evidence of water damage to the wood or the fabric ~ something I would always look for. While there is a key hole. There is no key. The brass fittings are in very good shape. This is a fantastic antique WMF German Art Deco style Brass tantalus. A beautiful lockable decanter holder or stand. To protect that valuable liquor. It was manufactured in Germany at the WMF factory Circa 1909 or a little later when they started using the specific mark this one has. It has a beautiful bright shiny brass. With ball feet and caged sides. LArge loop on top for handling. And two fold down locking caps to lock in the bottles. The total height is approx. 16" total. 19thC Diminutive Excelsior Portable Tantalus Wood W/Brass 1880-1899
A beautiful and decorative 19th Century tantalus. This has a brass tag with the following: Excelsior Reg'd Pat. 24 Oct 1883# 405869" The solid oak frame has brass bound accents including a face plate for the lock mechanism. Corner and top rail mounts and a brass handle. This diminutive tantalus measures approximately 5 3/8" and 6.75" to the top of the handle. This has a spring mechanism that releases the top and allows you to open it and remove the bottles when you unlock it. The stunning cut crystal bottles have a diamond point pattern on them. The design is matched on the glass stoppers and there is a star cut motif on the top of each bottle. The bases of the bottles have been molded into a smaller square design that allows them to fit snugly into the slots on the wood base. Antique English Wood Tantalus. Brass Decoration,Crystal Decanters,Secret Drawer Another Bygone Antiques great find! Circa 1880. These wooden boxes. Decorated with brass, were designed to hold decanters of liquors and spirits. They were meant to"tantalize" the servants and children because the bottles could not be removed unless the box was opened with the key. The key is muissing. The top of the box opens to reveal 3 interior compartments. When the top is open, there is a button which opens a drawer in the bottom of the box. Inside are compartments for storing playing cards. This tantalus is in good condition with a few issues. One decanter has a rim chip and one stopper is broken off. The broken stopper when installed on any of the decanters is too tall to fit in the space. There is some damage to the finish on the top right by ... morethe brass decoration and a screw is loose causing a tab to lift a little. There is also a screw missing on the left top decoration. The secret drawer does not close tightly on the left corner. It can be held tight manually but the pin will not hold it in tight. The right side is fine. Antique Italian Tantalus Set with Lock Great Distressed Wood Working Look w/ Brass Trim Note: All items in our store include NO sales tax to our US customers! Here is a great Italian Tantalus Set for your buying consideration. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! What a beautiful tantalus set here. Made to look like a set from the 1700s with the style of the case and then the wood being distressed to look like it had a bug infestation to it. Really adds to the charm of the piece. The wood appears to be a fruit wood to us. But you be the judge. Made in Italy" is impressed into the wood on the bottom of the wood case. The brass trim is all in place as is the hinge and hardware for the top of the wood case. Brass trim piece on top of case is intact as well. I would guess that this set ... moredates to the 1940s. But could be earlier than that. So, calling the set antique, but might be vintage. The 3 glass liqueur decanters match and are the same size. The one decanter has some white residue on the inside of it. We have just rinsed the pieces out with soap and water. We have not attempted to clean any further. The stoppers are in perfect condition. No chips or cracks. The stoppers go from a large to small size, not the same size. Two of the decanters have a small chip on the inside of the decanter lip. Other than that, the bottles look good and this issue cannot be seen with the stopper in place let alone when in the case. The tantalus set is 14" tall. By 14-5/8" across, by 5.75" wide. Each decanter without stopper is 7" tall(9" with stopper) Each decanter is 3-3/8" on each side. The decanters are pressed glass not crystal. The small lock is in place with a key that can be removed from it to secure away the"precious cargo" that you put into the decanters. We see no maker's mark on the lock or key. 19th C Napoleon III Tantalus Wood Crystal Brass Relief Fox Hunt Dogs Caryatids
Shipping fees are estimated to the east coast from CA so it may be less to ship closer and I will reimburse any shipping fees over $2.00. This is a beautiful 19th century French or English(because of the metal mounts I think it may be English but? tantalus or cave a liqueur. We believe it is oak and what is amazing is that there is brass or copper ormolu trim around the box. The top has 4 corners which like fox head and the center is a panel with running dogs and a pheasant framed with tree limbs and highly detailed foliage with leaves and berries. There are 4 caryatids on each corners and panels of hanging game on front and sides. The box is approx. 14.5" wide x 11.5" at its tallest and 11" deep. The crystal glasses and decanters are etched and very well could be Baccarat although unsigned. There are 4 decanters about 8.5" ... moretall with stoppers and the cordials are about 2 7/8" tall. There are 9 etched matching cordials to the decanters and 5 more etched same height but a little different design and 2 that are a little taller and not matching but it completes the set. They are in excellent condition with a stopper on one decanter that is repaired but complete. Condition of box: there is a crack on bottom that is stable. A couple missing screws and the bottom part of the lock hardware is missing as is the key. Some veneer damage and repair and the person I bought this from said the top was loose so the ran a bead of glue and you can see a line of glue residue on the interior edge. He also wiped it down with some kind of wood oil. There are some small cracks, if you look closely and the front left corner has a repair. Overall, a very nice piece and I forgot to mention the 2 metal band of beading trim around the top and again on the bottom. Most of the time these boxes have repairs or damages and missing or replaced glass/crystal. I thought the wood was oak but it is darker so not sure. That said. It really is a beautiful piece. I am making it sound like the damage is extensive, it is not. I j
