Antique Glass Crystal & Brass Tantalus Set/Reversible Hang Tags,Estate Sale Item
This Estate Sale Tantalus Set is heavy ornately designed crystal on a four sides. With brass caps& holder, the hang tags are reversible and say Vodka/Bourbon/Scotch or Rye as you choose. The set is 8 pounds for shipping, well designed& solid. The brass shows some pitting due to age& usage wear, it hasn't been cleaned, but, should polish up nicely. I felt a rough spot on one corner of one decanter when I removed it from the holder to check it's condition, a small corner chip that you don't see and doesn't interfere with the integrity or usability of the set. The decanters are 10 3/4" H, and, in the holder the overall height is 14" 7 6/8" W and 4" D, both pumps work and the insider feeding straw is present on each one. I don't see a makers mark ShipSaver. This is beautiful and extremely old most likely English antique liquor cabinet/chest with brass figures and original key. It has a place for 16 glasses please note 3 are missing. Chest has minor scratches from norman wear and tear but in remarkable shape for its age. It also has 4 hand blown glass bottles with gold gilt design. The chest measures aprox.10 X 13 X 11. Antique Tantalus Early 19th Century With three decanters. Circa 1860-1890 Enjoy this incredibly Fabulous tantalus set with their original hand cut leaded crystal decanters. The decanters were hand blown and etched with crisp deep symmetrical cuts. The stoppers are tight. Overall this antique tantalus is in great shape. The main tantalus boby handmade in fine oak with sterling silver plated corner details and also features a heavy silver plated quality handle. The wood is NOT dry and overall shows little wear. Presented for your review is a fine English tantalus cabinet made of solid oak wood in the 19th century. Comes complete with original metal adornments. Working lock and key, and three original cut-glass crystal decanters. key may not be original) The three decanter bottles with beveled crystal stoppers are typically meant to hold Gin, Sherry and Brandy and are in very fine condition. The oak cabinet is also well-preserved, with a lovely patina, age-appropriate wear including a few cracks and splits. It is sturdy and effectively prevents the bottles from coming out of their docks when the unit is closed. The cabinet is embellished with nailed plated-metal details to reinforce and adorn it. The wear on the metal accents give the tantalus a distressed look with lots of aesthetic appeal. There are also cast iron handles on either side of the ... morecaddy to add a rugged security look. This is one of the most exquisite tantalus sets I've ever seen! It has 3 cut crystal decantors. 6 glasses, and even a hidden drawer! All of the decanters have a metal tag; one Bourbon, one Sherry, and one Scotch. The design on these decanters is quite lovely. There are no chips and no cracks on any of the decanters. There is a chip on the bottom of one of the crystal stoppers as shown in the pictures. The glasses tuck neatly inside each other; 3 larger ones and 3 smaller ones and they all fit in the drawer. There is a key to lock this tantelus set. When you press the button in the middle of the first drawer the second drawer pops open; thus the hidden drawer which has all kinds of nice little compartments. It is a beautifully ornately cut crystal glass decanters and a brass metal locking Tantalus. This set contains the Tantalus. Two decanters with brass pump action caps with feeding tubes/straws, two brass reversible liquor hang tags, one lock, two keys. The reversible hang tags read Bourbon. Scotch on one side and Rye, Vodka on the other side. The decanters measure 10 ¾ inches tall to the top of the caps and 3 inches square. The overall measurements of the Tantalus is 13 inches tall to the top of the handle. 8 inches wide and 4 inches deep. The lock measures approx. ¾ inch by 1 inch. This is an item called a tantalus. It is a wooden frame or holder for 3 liquor or wine bottles. The owner would place his liquor in the bottles. Lock the lid, and tantalize the servants, who could not open the bottles! To further deter theft, one stopper is shorter than the others and the bottles will only fit into certain slots. The tantalus is 14 ½” 37 cm) wide, 5” 13 cm) deep, and 12 ½” 32 cm) high. There are 3 cut glass decanters with glass stoppers. There is a lock in the lid. But the key is missing. There are two latches on the lid, but one is missing, so I would not carry it by the handle. There is a metal plaque on the front, but with no engraving. There are no marks or maker name on the item. Antique 1930s Tantalus 3 Decanters Sterling Hanging Tag Label Betjemanns London
A great looking english tantalus from the 1930s in good condition. There is no key but it is unlocked and functioning well. All the glass decanters are in fantastic shape for the age. Just a few minor nicks on the bottoms of the stoppers and some minor nicks on the bottom edges that are almost not even worth mentioning. The hanging tags are all stamped sterling. There is a chip in the wood stand on the bottom corner edge but it does not effect the tantalus at all. Very very old piece. Not a reproduction. Very hard to find a large set like this. I have never came across one that is cut to clear. Very nice. The case has some minor wear. Has mother of pearl inlay on top. No key. Comes with minor scuffs. Scratches, cracking in finish and finish wear. The box is missing left side of the security lock hinge. not a big deal. There is a chip out of one stopper and there are two larger chips out of two glasses. There is a couple very minor flea bites on some glasses and decanters. Most are in great shape. A little hard to completely close. When closed, there are some gapes. So i am guessing from age the wood and hinges has swelled and bent. Very very rare. Antique Glass Cordial Absinthe Reverse Painted Tantalus + Decanter, 3 Glasses
Possibly Bohemian or French. This charming antique glass set consists of the holder, a decanter with ground glass stopper, and 3 of the original 6 little glasses. The server is reverse painted a pale blue, with age-expected worn areas. On the outside, the painted decoration is of a stylized floral motif with wear/ fading to the paint. The little glasses have some tiny"flea bite" spots on the rims(as does the bottom edge of the stopper) The glasses have tiny bubbles in them. The brass( banded closere is tarnished, but in excellent shape. It closes securely. Care must be given when closing the lid, so as not to damage the glasses. The metal collar that holds the glasses and decanter looks like nickel plated brass with some spots of corrosion. Check out my! Antique English Victorian Era Tantalus with 3 Original Decanters Oak/Silverplate
SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE PHOTOS- 24 IN ALL A fine English triple-decanter tantalus from the late 1800's. This example is made from golden oak with hallmarked EPNS(electro-plated nickel silver) accents. The bottle compartment houses a trio of glass decanters with heavy faceted stoppers. A mirrored back behind the decanters enhances the display. The butterfly doors open to reveal a storage compartment lined in blue. An carved bone plunger is pressed to gain access to another drawer below. Bottles cannot be removed except when the butterfly doors are unlocked and opened. We do not have the key for this tantalus. Measurements: Wood case: 12"H x 13.75"W x 10.5"D Decanters: 6.5"H to top of collar. 8.75" to top of stoppers, 3.25" square Condition: Overall good condition for an item that is 125+ years old. One decanter ... morehas a chip in the rim of the collar. Several photos to show this. There are small chips on the business end of the stoppers as shown. There is some damage to the base trim at the corners. The left door has an age crack and is missing one of the fasteners on a metal accent piece- also shown in pictures. The spring mechanism for the lower drawer is working but needs adjustment to make the drawer close fully. The drawer does lock into place. Requiring the use of the plunger button to open it, but it sticks out slightly instead of being flush with the front of the case. Please review the photos carefully as they are intended to show the condition of this item as clearly as possible so you can make an informed bidding decision. This is an Antique Leather Book Form Tantalus. I purchased this at a local Estate Auction and was told it is over 150 years old. It originally came from France. The Crystal Decanter. I was told, is a rare Sevres, but is unmarked. It is in real good condition. No Chips or Cracks. Gold Trim shows a little wear on one side and in a couple small areas on the edge of the topper. Decanter is 1-7/8"sq. at the base and 4-1/2"H including the topper.4-1/8" without the topper. The Glasses are Sterlilng Silver. I was told when I purchased it. That they are ... morethe original ones that came with this set. I believe they are called cordials or shot glasses. They are 2-1/2" Tall, 1-3/8" in Diameter at the top and 1-1/16" in Diameter at the base. They do need a good polishing. 3 are marked on the bottom and one is not but it looks exactly like the others. The ones that are marked, are marked with a symbol that I can not make out. The words"Sterling Silver WP 446" follow the symbol. The Glasses weigh 15g Each. The Book Form is a Stack of 4 Books. The books the set was carved from are French. They are worn. They are leather covered. One of the cloth straps that hold the lid on is broken an appear to be missing a small section. The other strap is worn. The cover of the book that has the opening holders for the decanter and glasses is loose/unglued at the outer page edge.not the binding edge. All the books show wear. I tried to show most of it with the pictures I took. The book set measures 6-3/4"L x 4-1/8"W x 4-3/4"H Please ask questions before buying. The decanter is oval and is 3 7/8" at its widest and 6" tall. The goblet is 3 5/8" in diameter and 4 3/4" tall. Overall condition is fair. There are small chips to the lip of the goblet. A few very small chips to stopper of decanter. The stopper is stuck and we were unable to remove it. Fabric interior is worn and faded. Exterior has spots of missing veneer and cracks to the veneer on the back and side. Key is missing and it is not know if the locking mechanism works. Antique 19th century. Tatntalus/bottle carrier about 9½" wide and 13½" high. The ebonized wooden base and bottle surround are held in place with solid brass"legs" about 3" high. Each bottle surround has brass inlay. The solid brass handle for carrying 9½" high, The wooden base stands on 3 round brass feet. Slightly dented from years of use. Slight droop towards the middle which shows in some of the photos(depends on what angle it is turned) 2 minor chips underneath the wooden plateau(see photos) 3 coloured(blue green and purple) bottles. I belive these were made in the 1930s. They are in good overall condition with no damage and the origional finish with a great looking old patina. Antique Tantalus with Three Crystal Perfume Bottles Circa 1920s
Gorgeous original Tantalus offered for auction. I purchased this piece 12 years ago. The bottles were said to be perfume bottles although now. Having researched the"tantalus" I'm beginning to wonder if that's accurate. The bottle in the middle is not part of the matching set ~ although it may be the more valuable of the three due to its sterling silver collar and the makers marks. Additionally. I believe the stopper to one of the other bottles is not original. It doesn't fit securely in the neck of the bottle like the other one does. Overall the box is in pretty amazing shape considering its age. The linings are also very nicely preserved. There is no evidence of water damage to the wood or the fabric ~ something I would always look for. While there is a key hole. There is no key. The brass fittings are in very good ... moreshape. The beveled glass on the front is in amazing shape. There are no scratches or nicks. Overall, considering this 7 piece set is +85 years old.it's in remarkable shape. Antique Locking Oak and Brass Tantalus Caddy 3 Cut Glass Decanters
Antique locking oak and brass tantalus caddy with three cut glass decanters with cane pattern. The overall measurement is 12 1/2" high(including handle) x 14" wide x 5 1/4" deep. The overall condition is excellent. The key is original and included. The locking mechanism is in excellent working condition. The top of the tantalus rotates up to allow the decanters to be removed. The polished brass finish on the center handle has worn off to the brass. The decanters are 8 1/2" high(to the top of the stopper) x 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" I have not been able to remove one of the stoppers from its decanter. There is a very small amount of clear liquid inside this decanter(less than a teaspoon) The other two stoppers have slightly flattened areas on the rounded sides on the region that fits onto the decanter. I have tried to show ... morethis in the 9th photo. There are two tiny"flea bites" on the very end that fits into the decanter on one stopper and one very tiny"flea bite" on the other also on the end edge where it fits into the decanter. The decanter on the left in the first photo has slightly milky areas on the onside base. Also. On the middle decanter there is an indentation in the middle outside of the base that I am assuming is the remainder of the pontil mark. I have tried to show this in the 12th photo. The bases of the decanters are polished. There are no chips or cracks in the decanters. The fitted green felts in the caddy that the decanters sit on have been replaced. Antique English Oak 3 Bottle Decanter Liquor Set Tantalus
Here is a set of three matching decanters in their original fitted carrying rack. With working lock mechanism. These are a great way to add a flair of luxury to entertaining. The wood tantalus was designed to keep the servants from stealing liquor. It measures 17 1/2" wide and 6" deep at the base and not counting the handle it is 11" tall. Age appropriate wear and patina, some oxidation, some breaks and bends in the metal ornamentation. The decanters are cut and polished at the rims and bases, possible some small flecks on the bases but could be the cuts, a fleck here and there to the high points of the bottles and stoppers but nothing that stands out, and one stop has chips on the inserted end. A little sediment in the bottles, again nothing significant. The decanters are 8 3/4" tall including the stoppers and about 3 ... more1/4" wide. The overall condition is very good for this beautiful Antique piece with the only real blemishes being 2 small chips in the rim of two bottlesthat is hardly noticeable. We actually didn't even notice them till the piece was thoroughly& delicately cleaned. The plaque on the front of the tantalus reads"The Cabinet" 17 June 1880, Mappin& Webb. Mappin& Webb is a company that has been around since 1774. In 1897 it was granted a royal warrant to produce the queens jewelry as well as the prince of whales. The company has a important place in history and the piece we are offering is in above average condition. we were only able to locate one other that had sold in much rougher condition for around $400 with shipping, but the wood around the key whole was damaged on that one as well as the wood was worst for wear. Antique 3 Bottle Betjemann's Tantalus Decanter Set Bid on this antique Tantalus decanter set. The whole set with all the bottles measures 13 3/4" long by 5 1/2" deep by 11 1/2" high. This is a 3 decanter set. There is a lock on the top metal part. It will not go down or allow liquor to be served from them unless this lock is unlocked. Once that is accomplished. The metal bar will fold down and will allow the bottles to be removed from the wood carrier. There are four stainless or silver plate brackets on the corners of the wood carrier. There are two keys for this mechanism. Betjemann's Patent 66675, London" is on one end of the silver metal bar and"The Tantalus(GB&S) is at the other end. There are three glass decanters with decorative cut glass tops. The neck of one of the bottles is 2 1/2" in diameter. ... moreThe other two bottles are 2 1/4" in diameter. A fabulous late Victorian English Tantalus by the top-notch maker. Betjemann's. During Victorian times. These became a popular item in the finest of hopes, keeping the precious contents locked away from members of the household staff. The caddy is made from solid English Mahogany. With silvered brass mounts together with locking bar and handle to the top. The top is released by unlocking then pressing down the lever beneath the lock cylinder; the three cut crystal decanters can then be accessed. All three decanters are in quite nice condition. Fabulous condition and ready for use. The footprint measures 13 3/4" x 5 1/4" and stands 11 3/4" tall to top of handle; each decanter measures 3 1/4" square and standing 9 1/4" tall to top of stopper. Condition is excellent. Antique Victorian Tantalus Mahogany and Crystal and Brass Circa 1880
This piece was recently dated to pre 1900 by an expert in the field. Gorgeous original Tantalus offered for auction. I purchased this piece 12 years ago. The bottles were are not the size of the normal decanter ~ more like perfume bottles. During the time this was sold originally. The bottles could have held very fine liqueurs for ladies. The bottle in the middle is not part of the matching set ~ although it may be the more valuable of the three due to its sterling silver collar and the makers marks. Additionally. It's possible the stopper to one of the other bottles is not original. It doesn't seem to fit securely in the neck of the bottle like the other one does ~ but that could just be my OCD; Overall. Considering this 7 piece set is about 140 years old.it's in remarkable shape. The linings are also very nicely preserved. There ... moreis no evidence of water damage to the wood or the fabric ~ something I would always look for. While there is a key hole. There is no key. The brass fittings are in very good shape. The beveled glass on the front is in amazing shape. There are no scratches or nicks. An expert identified the wood as mahogany. The box is 6 1/2" high with the lid closed. 4 1/2" high with the lid open, it's 7 3/4" long at the base and 3 3/4" deep. The entire set weighs 2 pounds, 2.4 ounces. An antique. Circa 1890's, quartersawn oak tantalus with nickel finish brass mounts. There are three reserves for molded glass bottles and cork wrapped stoppers. The original key is missing from the side lock. By pulling down a wire loop at the base of the lock, the bar across can be unlocked and swiveled down to access the bottles. Tantalus measures 13" tall by 16-1/2" wide by 6-1/2" deep. The bottle measure 9-1/2" tall by 3-1/2" wide by 3" deep. Very good condition: oak without chips or cracks, original unworn finish. The nickel finish has worn some with brass now showing. All glass bottles without chips or cracks, corks complete.

This is a fantastic antique WMF German Art Deco style Brass tantalus. A beautiful lockable decanter holder or stand. To protect that valuable liquor. It was manufactured in Germany at the WMF factory Circa 1909 or a little later when they started using the specific mark this one has. It has a beautiful bright shiny brass. With ball feet and caged sides. LArge loop on top for handling. And two fold down locking caps to lock in the bottles. The total height is approx. 16" total. The tantalus itself measures 8 1/4" long, 5 1/4" wide and 6" high. The glassware inside includes a 5 1/4" tall x 2" square decanter with 6 shot glasses(2" tall) which are all in excellent condition. The decanter has faded gilded edges on the top of the stopper, as well as along some of the other bottle lines. The shot glasses have a gilded rim to them as well. The insides are in good condition for its age, but the top has a rip. The Tantalus case shows extensive wear to its exterior leather bindings and cover. Antique Victorian Oak Tantalus with 3 Cut Glass Canters Two Toned with Lock Key
A Beautiful Antique Unmarked Scalloped Oak Tantalus with 3 Square Cut Glass Canters. Two-Toned Metal Decor, Green Felt Lining, and Locking Key Great Condition related to age with some wear seen from use. Age is unknown. But similar items are dating circa 1880-1900's. The wood may be oak with a medium tone and glossy finish. The two metals used for the handle. Hinges, and decor are unknown-one is copper colored and the other may be brass. Canters are heavy glass or crystal and are square cut with star burst designed bottoms and diamond cut stoppers. All cuts reflect light beautifully with a colorful prism effect. Each Canter sits in its own green felt lined shelf and each has its own custom fit stopper to allow slight head room when placing in the Tantalus. Grooves have been carved out above each canter to allow for easier removal and ... morereduction of damage to tops of stoppers. Flaws seen are: some scuffs/scratches on wood from use. Light scratches on canters and stoppers from normal use, a very tiny chip on one stopper and a small one on another, small chip on side of one canter, one handle base cracked but filled, white residue inside canter and brown spot on bottom of one- possible remnants of liquid stored, and a small, about 1 inch, piece of wood on the right bottom of Tantalus is cracking but still intact. The wood case is solid mahogany and the five glass panels have etched borders and ... morea vignette at the top that has not been monogrammed. There is an old crack on the top edge of the left hand glass panel. Which you can see in the close-up photograph. The other glass panels, all the bronze ormolu and the mahogany case are perfect with no restorations. Between the bronze feet this tantalus measures 13” by 16” and the overall height is 12” Inside is a removable holder with a mirrored bottom. It holds four original, 1 ¾” tall, hand blown and etched liquor decanters and 14 of 15 small 3 5/8” tall glasses. All four decanters are perfect and clean with polished pontils. They are etched with egrets hunting in a swamp landscape with exotic plants. Originally this tantalus held 15 small etched glasses. There are only 14 glasses, of which 9 are original with the same egret design. The other 5 are the same size and a very good match, but they have a different base and no egrets in the etched design. Antique Coralene Czech Reverse Glass Liqueur Decanter Tantalus
This is an amazing coralene decorated glass tantalus or liqueur/whiskey set made in CZECHLOSLOVAKIA. It has a flask or flacon inside with the original stopper and the six original hand blown glasses. 2 with minor fleabites on the rim where they cut the glass,the stopper has a chip also. The lovely large glass dome/jar has been hand painted with 3 individual courting scenes, as well as the hinged lid. There is some typical loss of the reverse painted color but 90- 95% of the lovely coralene decoration is in tact; really stunning. There is a gold finial on the top, and it measures 12" high, the base diameter is 7 1/2 in diameter, no chips or cracks on the case. It has ornate brass mounts which have a lovely patina. It has 3 glass decanters in the top section behind mirrored. It has 2 lift up flaps internal divided sections for galsses. Playing cards domiono's etc. Side carrying handles. it has a key hole to the front and secret draw which opens by pushing a button hidden under the 2 lift up flaps. Cribbage boards& cards etc in the scret draw. Has the original key to lock the box so decanters cannot be taken out when locked. Size 14 in. high; 15 x 11 in. ANTIQUE FRENCH TANTALUS LIQUOR DECANTER SERVICE SET IN FAUX BOOKS MUSIC BOX
Offered for your bid is a fabulous faux book hidden decanter set. Although it is unmarked I firmly believe it is a Tantalus of France as it has all of the looks and feels of a Tantalus faux box decanter chest. The faux box looks to be leather or a faux leather. It contains a very lovely decanter with 4 glasses. The stopper on the decanter is a very ornate piece. What makes this faux box so much for interesting is that it has a music box feature which I think plays the song"La Vie En Rose" The box measures 6 3/4" x 4 1/2" x 6" It is in very nice condition especially for its age. Although I have indicated that it is from 1900-1940 it could very well be older. The overall condition of the box is very nice. There are the normal signs of wear and age. The interior of the box is very clean. The music box mechanism works ... moreperfectly. The decanter and glass are in very fine condition. One of the glasses has a minor chip on the bottom rim. This is a wonderful example of a Tantalus faux book decanter set. Antique ENGLISH SILVERPLATED BRONZE Portable TANTALUS Cut Glass Bottle DECANTER
Fresh out of local Estate. We have a pleasure to offer you this lovely vintage English silverplated bronze& faux tortoise liquor 3 bottle tantalus decanter set. Bottles look unused, would be perfect to hold your Perfumes. Not often seen in this size, three bottles with stoppers housed in velvet lined base, held down with movable arched metal"roof" an actual handle. There is a release button above the key hole, which unlocks the handle in order to move it and remove the bottles. If handle is locked, the bottles are locked snug in their place, and will not fall out when you transport this baby. Base and sides are made of wood, veneered over in beautiful faux turtle material, and brass frame with silver plated mounts. Made in England, first half of 20th century. Marked on side of the handles"Betjemann's Patent" and"London ... more15223" No engravings. All three cut glass bottles are in good shape. As well as the case, minor age wear, but bottles seem to never have been used. Size is great for display 10.5" long. 4.5" across, and 7.75" height to the top of handle. Bottles are 5.25" in height. Antique French liquor tantalus shaped to look like pile of books. It has a liquor tantalus hidden discreetly. The glassware inside includes decanter and 4 shot glasses. The decanter has gilded edges on the top of the stopper. As well as along some of the other bottle lines. The shot glasses have a gilded rim as well. They are in excellent condition. Decanter is 4-1/2" tall. Each shot glass is 2" tall. The whole piece measures approx. 7" 5" 5-1/2" Length x Width x Height) Please note that there is a little bubble inside the glass on a top of the decanter. Not a through hole. But an oval shaped cavity from the inside of thick glass. To me it looks like it's been sitting there forever since the decanter was made or so. The hinge works great.
