Up for bid is an antique wood and brass box. I'm not an expert but from what I could gather it appears to date from the 17th or 18th Century. It may have been used as a ship captain's chest or strong box or a writing/Bible box. It has a number of internal compartments including one that locked. There is also one that looks like it would have held pen quills. The wood is quite dark and very hard and dense and the brass is hand wrought. It measures about 16 1/2" long x 10 1/2" deep x 4 1/4" tall and is very heavy. I have included a lot of pictures but please feel free to ask for more and ask any questions. You are bidding on an Antique Walnut/ Coromandel Domed Top Casket with beautiful ivory and brass detail. Made about 1830- 40 in the Gothic Revival style. This is a handsome box with a wonderful delicate flower motif on the ivory. The inside is in very good original condition considering the age of this item. Two of the ivory decorations have damage and ivory loss and one is cracked but this wouldn't be a difficult restoration. This is a great chance to own a genuine antique. Measures- 9 ins wide- 8 ins to top of dome- 6 1/2 ins high. Inner lid lined with original shot silk- not sure about the flowered material/ paper on the inside boxes- but looks old enough and matches the colour of the silk. Good Luck.

There is some age related wear as you would expect. For instance the material on the base is frayed and the key is missing,but in general I would say it is in good overall condition given its age and use. Dated circa 1865. It is a fantastically crafted high end slope this that is very strong/sturdy and has a strong but elegant look to it. With some wonderful looking and effective brass bounding especially on the corners. The box is obviously an expensive and sought after/collectable slope that comprises of 2 secret drawers that hide behind a releasable section. This section release works well and the drawers are flush. It comes with what looks like the original key and the lock and key work well. The condition and craft of this slope as mentioned really is phenomenal. The green baize skiver is recent of ... morecourse. The burr wood in this slope really is fantastic and as can be seen from the pictures especially the side and the top of the slope(6th. 7th& 10th picture) looks like it is cut from the entire trunk of the burr. Some wonderful colouration to this cut of burr walnut. Has a great luster and patina to it. Has some aged markings as can be seen in the last picture(10th picture) but these give it character and are commensurate with age of course. The brass is bright but still has a slight tarnish to it. All brass bounding is firm and strong and sits flush as does the keyhole and top escutcheon. The pen tray is present. A magnificent. Very elegant and strong, mid 1800's writing slope with markings commensurate with age. Similar slopes sell regularly for £500+. Front jewellery drawer and interior vanity mirror among other things. The interior is in fantastic condition. The silver plated lids have been lightly polished and are high crafted examples with engravings on them. The roushed rosso red velvet interior is also in great condition as is the mirror behind it. This is a very high calibre vanity box that has had no expense spared as can be seen from the beautiful burr grain. The brass bounding, the engraved silver plated lids and the patent lock. Wonderful Victorian Walnut& Burl Lockside Chest with Desk Brass Pulls c1880's Being offered for sale is this wonderful Victorian Solid walnut& burl walnut Lock-side chest with pull out desk circa 1880's. This 19th century chest is executed in walnut with beautiful raised panels of walnut on each drawer front with what we believe the original period pulls. The pull out desk area has newer replaced felt on the writing surface with a fitted desk interior. This chest is very solid and tight and nice and clean. The side lock is intact but we do not have they key. There is a small piece of veneer loss about the size of a quarter on the bottom drawer and a small area of loss on the felt on the inside desk area. Nothing that takes away from this chest but a part of its character. Age and usage from the past 130 years or so.This early ... morechest with desk is ready for use for many more years to come.
