Antique/Vintage Wooden Dome-top Shipping Trunk-White Star Line Stickers
This vintage/antique dome-topped wooden trunk with steel-covered corners and a steel bottom has partial White Star Line stickers on both sides as well as several“ New York” stickers. The trunk has all of its original steel hardware. Including both side handles and casters on the bottom, except for one of the eight metal end pieces on the wooden strips on the lid. The side handles and casters are still functional. The original lid hinges are still present(a few screws are missing) but new hinges have been installed and they are the ones actually holding the lid on. The trunk measures 26 1/2” long. Stands 18 1/2” high and is 15 1/2” deep. It is in good condition. The wooden sides are solid. The inside paper lining has deteriorated quite a bit. I picked this up from my mother's after she lined it and I was very tempted to keep it- the lining is gorgeous and so wonderful that it still retains original makers label. Some years ago. Someone else stripped the trunk of the old leather but kept the nice brass tack decorations. Trunk has original thick leather handles and is all wood. Nice honey color, the wood is nice and smooth- but as any item over 100 years old it is not perfect- it has character dings and scratches- evidence of a life well lived and traveled. Antique Victorian 1800's Wooden Dome Top Trunk Old Lock Original Finish Description: Antique Victorian 1800's Wooden Dome Top Trunk Old Lock Original Finish ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Offered is a great antique wood dome top trunk. It has the original finish and great old hardware lock. Purchased at an antique auction it dates to the mid to late 1800's. The inside of the trunk is lined with layers of antique newspapers dating to 1865. Great old advertising. The newspapers are not in the best of condition and are hanging in some areas and falling apart. I have left them as they were found because it does help verify the age of the trunk. Most people will want to remove the paper and clean the trunk. You may be able to save some of the newspaper and advertising. The trunk measures about 11 inches high. It is 11 inches deep(front ... moreto back) and 21 inches side to side. It is in good antique condition. There are imperfections as would be expected. Marks in the wood here and there and there is a slight separation of the boards on one end as shown in the photos. Please refer to photo#5. The lid of the trunk has a separation in the boards; please refer to photos 7& 8. An unusual lock which I am not familiar with. It has a small lever which slides over the opening for the key and this does stick a little; it should loosen up nicely with a little care. I do not think all of the lock is there; it appears there should be another piece on the lid. As I said I am unfamiliar so I am not sure; just using my best guess in regards to the lock. Please refer to photo# 6. There is no key. Wonderful old trunk. It looks great displayed and would be a nice addition to any collection. This is a genuine heavy-duty solid wood immigrant trunk with an arched top. Markings say"PATD 1880" on the metal seals on the top. The exterior has embossed tin accents. The interior has a removable shelf for storing smaller items. And the main storage area is spacious. Exterior dimensions are approximately 28 inches wide, 16 inches deep, and 18 inches tall. OAK IMMIGRANT TRUNK, DOVETAILED CORNERS, WOODEN PEG TOP,
I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A GERMAN TRUNK. PROBABLY DATEING FROM THE 1800'S. IT IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. I BELIEVE IT TO BE MADE OF OAK, THE CORNERS ARE DOVETAILED. THE DOMED TOP IS PUT ON WITH WOODEN PEGS. IT IS VERY CLEAN INSIDE AND APPEARS TO HAVE ORGINAL OLD FINISH ON THE OUTSIDE. ONE WIDE BOARD ON THE TOP HAS SPLIT FROM AGE-IT RETAINS ITS OLD STRAP IRON HINGES, SECURELY IN PLACE. THE TWO IRON HANDLES ON THE ENDS ARE ORGINAL TO PIECE AND FIRMLY ATTATCHED. THE LARGE IRON LOCK, SURFACE MOUNT ON INSIDE IS PRESENT AND LOOKS TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION. THERE IS NO KEY, THE ESTUCHEON ON THE OUTSIDE OF KEY HOLE IS MISSING-YOU CAN SEE THE IMPRINT OF WHERE IT WAS. Antique Dome Top Wooden Steamer Trunk- 1800s- Local Pick Up You are looking at a dome top wooden steamer trunk from the 1800s. This trunk has definitely been used. And it is in its original condition. It comes with 4 original(3 currently installed) casters on the bottom. I have included a pic of the bottom showing all 4 casters. As you can see by the pic, the top right caster is detached due to wood loss. The term"original condition" also includes the following: One of the side carrying straps is missing. The lower section of the left hinge for the lid has become detached(see pic) The wood slat second in from the right has suffered a split at the peak of the dome(see pic) There is no key. We are pleased to offer this antique dome top trunk which dates to the late 19th century and may either be German or American made. No markings. It measures approx 25 1/2 x 14 1/2 x 17 1/2(LWH) and is in good antique condition. Made of wood and metal with small metal wheels/casters on bottom. Original drawer insert(needs repair) Original handles/straps are not present. Trunk lid needs new screws at the back hinges to secure it(see pics) All very easy repairs that we will leave to its new owner to do as they wish. From our family estate in Brooklyn NY. EXTREMELY RARE VINTAGE AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE STAGE COACH WOODEN 2 DRAWER DOME TOP TRUNK/CHEST SOLID WOOD circa 1840's Up for auction is this very rare vintage and authentic STAGE COACH WOODEN 2 DRAWER TRUNK/ CHEST SOLID WOOD with a dome top. It was actually used on a stage coach and in very good condition for its age. Shabby chic rustic and rugged. Made of solid wood and sturdy. On the outside there is a little paint loss on it due to its age. Mostly on the back of the trunk on the bottom. The outside was probably refinished at one point. It was hand or CUSTOM made. Very heavy well made chest. It is solid with no damage to it or its 2 drawers. The drawers are 14 3/4 inches in depth x 20 inches long x 2" wide. In good solid condition. None of the wood shows any sign of damage. Warping or shrinkage. Both drawers open and close easily. ... moreTwo metal knobs are present on each drawer to open them. The previous owner told us that it was checked by an expert and was made sometime during the 1840's and except for one handle on the top. Everything else is original. It looks like it may have been used as a gun/pistol box or a storage box for guns. Its bottom drawer is QUITE UNIQUE. The drawer has seven raised wooden compartments in the color blue. That color blue was not be the original color. TWO of those compartments were designed specifically to fit pistols. The other compartments perhaps to hold ammo and anything else related to pistols or guns. The trunk/chest by design does not have any side handles. Four strips of embossed metal adore its domed top. When you open the trunk/chest it will not remain open unless you put something underneath the top to prevent it from closing. Underneath the lid of the trunk there is a secret compartment. The interior is in very good condition. The inside of the trunk is all natural wood. Very clean with no odors. Painted Dome Top Trunk 1800's or Earlier Wooden Chest Unique Must See
This very old painted dome lid trunk or chest is amazing. Unknown age and origin. But it obviously predates the 1900’s, possibly even the 1800’s. Look closely at the paintings– ornate scrolls, flowers, and a bird on the arched lid; flowers on the right end, and a lovely woman in a garden and a flower filled vase on the front panels. It appears as if this were cut in half at one time long ago. My guess is that it might have been a dowry chest from“the old country” that either was damaged or needed to be reduced in size. Perhaps to transport. Inside the lid is very early wallpaper. I’ve left old newspapers inside as I purchased it– 1930’s papers from Philadelphia. This measures 30” long X 21” wide or deep X 17 ½” to the top of the base and 23” to the top of the arched lid. The left end is painted blue– no decorations– probably missing ... morepart of the original chest. I’ve used this for many years as a decorative piece– the left end against a wall. Fragments of which still remain. ... moreIf you restore this trunk, then I hope you get a leather worker to make new straps(which would look great) This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Which now have a rich patina from years of use. I polished the exterior of the trunk and the slats look even better in my opinion. The lock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. This trunk includes the Till. It is covered in paper which is chipping and peeling. I would remove it if you restore the trunk. The edges of the trunk are leather. The exterior surface of the trunk is fabric over wooden construction. The fabric is well worn and frayed. With bits missing, especially along the edges. If you restore the trunk, one direction you can take would be to strip the exterior(and interior) of the covering and simply finish the wood underneath. The corners and some of the edges are metal bound. The metal has a nice dark patina. The leather handles on the ends are now gone. New leather is needed there. Inside. The fabric covering is badly stained and either should be removed and the wood underneath finished, or replaced. The interior smells musty and old, but not mildewed in my opinion. Up for offer we have an early antique domed top wooden immigrant trunk. The trunk measures 49" long by 26" wide and is 28" tall. While woods are not my forte` we have a consensus that this is red oak. Weighs a ton solid in construction and has aged nicely. Dates 1800-1820 possibly earlier. Came out of PA estate. All Original hardware with the exception of the is intact with the exception of a decorative plate above the lock front. You have to examine closely to see, appears a decorative element as the original lock is there no key though. There is some minor loss to some of the decorative hardware edges top and such please refer to photos. The wrought iron handles are there and solid to lift. The piece must have stood on a wall as the back is considerably darker(dirty) than the rest. Super antique wooden desk top stationery unit. With letter racks, inkwells and drawer to the front. Brass edging for protection and a brass unused shield for engraving initials. Up for grabs is an antique wooden steamer trunk with the original key! This has the slight curve top. This measures 33.75" wide. 18.5" from top to bottom. All 4 casters are still attached and are original. The top has a couple splinters in the wood, along with the bottom front but none of them are deep enough to go through to the inside. Both side handles are gone. The inside top flap can be removed, as shown in the pictures. This is a very old trunk. It has surface scratches and typical age wear! Estate ~ Antique DOME TOP Trunk w/ Lift Out Wooden INTERIOR Compartment
Nice solid pine wood trunk refinished at some point in its life to a clean wood finish. The metal strap trims and lock are painted black. The supporting wood trim slats that support the dome portion are oak wood for strength. The grain in the natural oak wood gives the pine wood a nice contrast. This is a perfect size trunk for your bedroom measuring approx. 29" wide x 17-1/4" x 21" tallest. The interior is also very clean. The lift out tray compartment is wood not cardboard it sits on the wood rails to hold your dainty or small items while in storage. The handles are leather they look original to me, both are present. Someone added strips of ribbon like material to decorate the interior. There is a lovely Victorian lady face on the inside lid. Antique 1838 Wooden Domed Top Oak Immigrant Trunk Sea Chest Heart Iron Straps
This is one beautiful antique oak trunk that has a date of 1838 but I think it might be older like the late 18th century just not sure. It measures 47 1/2" wide 23 1/2" deep at top. 20 3/4" deep at bottom and 28" tall not including wheels. This trunk is in Excellent condition for its age but there is a crack in side and a piece of trim missing on side also looks like a piece of an iron strap is missing at the open lid handle also someone added wheels a long time ago. The name ANNA CATRIENA JLSABEIN LANDWEHR 1838 is on the front. The iron straps are thick with a rare heart cut out design. The bottom trim has old paint hard to see looks like red and white stripes I think. Construction was done with wooden pegs and the bottom is held together with wooden dowels. Wow can you believe I have the original key and the lock still ... moreworks. I think the trunk is German but don't see and maker name. The photos do not show the beauty of this antique chest. Measuring approx. 32-1/4" wide x 18-3/4" x 20-3/4" tall. The lid is supported by a metal corner bracket that keeps the lid up nicely when the trunk is open. The wooden tray has the original metal finger lifts on each side so you can easily lift the tray out of the trunk. The inside floor of the trunk is wood but underneath the trunk is metal with the original metal rollers that act as little feet and move the trunk along easily. This piece has a lot of character I have seen people put wallpaper inside these trunks to match their room. Leave it clean wood or paper it your choice. Notes/Observations: See Photos. Grand old trunk. From the research I have done and the travel labels that are on the trunk. I would say this is c1920s and saw a lot of action on American railways. This is a Flat Top trunk. Which makes it particularly good for use as a coffee table. This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Which now have a rich patina from years of use. The lock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. The edges of the trunk are leather tacked into the wood. There is one area where the leather has split. Some additional tacks will handle this. The exterior surface of the trunk is fabric over wooden construction. The fabric is holding up very well. No fraying or missing pieces, The corners and some of the edges are metal bound. The metal has a nice dark patina. The leather handles on the ends are split. ... moreNew leather is needed there. If you restore this trunk. Then I hope you get a leather worker to make new straps(which would look great) Bottom of the trunk has wood slats over metal sheets. Inside. The fabric covering is in bad shape. The interior does not smell musty, Nice trunk. And a good item to start with if you are looking for a restoration project. Also good and usable the way it is if you like an unrestored look. Overall size: 32 3/4" wide x 20" deep x 12-3/4" high One of the wood slats is in need of repair. This is a wonderful Antique Wooden Pine Dome Top Document Box or Doll Trunk. It measures 18" x 10" x 9" It is in good condition overall. But it has been repainted and relined. The original latch is broken. It is painted robin's egg blue, but appears to have been painted a mustard color at some point. I try my best to accurately describe my items including any defects or flaws. I also try to take clear photographs so please check them out carefully. 1830s Ithaca Newspaper Lined Wooden Trunk Chest Rounded Top 2 Handles Latch Mono Antique wooden trunk. Rounded top. Monogrammed"E H" on the top with brass tacks. Metal handle on each side. Metal latch. Keyhole. But no key is included. Poor condition. One hinge on the back is broken. And only half of it remains. Much of the leather strapping and decoration has disintegrated and become lost. Primitive nail construction. Cracks in the wood, especially the top. The newspaper the trunk is lined with it dated 1830. Ithaca. Outer dimensions: 24" long. But the handles protrude about 5/8" on each side- 13.5" wide- 10.25" tall at front& rear. With lid closed- 11.5" tall in the middle. With the lid closed- 8" tall to top edge of open box- Lid 2" tall front& rear. 3" tall at crown Inner dimensions: ... more22.75" long- 12-1/8" wide- 6.75" deep- Lid 1.75" deep at front& rear edges. 2.75" deep at crown. One side does not have the strap or metal holders for being able to pick it up. Bottom has a piece chipped(See pics) but is not a problem because you don't see it. This antique steamer trunk belonged to my friend Ralph's parents. Ralph is 89 years old. His parents were born in 1888. He remembers this trunk they used to travel. This was Elisabeth and Paul Brown's trunk! All original hardware and original Victorian picture inside the lid of SWANS swimming in a pond amongst water lilies. BEAUTIFUL WOOD GRAINS beneath all the dust( See pic#5 and#6 where I took a damp rag and rubbed off the dust to show the wood grain) this trunk has been in Ralph's garage/untouched for over 65 years. VINTAGE DOME TOP CHEST TRUNK WOODEN BRASS RIVETS CARVED 19.25x13.5x16
Beautiful vintage medium sized trunk/chest. This was an estate sale find. It has beautiful hand carved detailed wood on the front and metal rivets on dome top. In over all good condition however some wear to be noted: One rivet on dome is missing. Some splintering and wear of the wood is visible. It measures about 19.25 in. long, 16 in. tall to highest point of the dome, and 13.5 in. wide. It is a dark wood and looks to be handmade but unsure. This item weighs a bit over 15 pounds and depending on your location may be costly. If you are interested in the purchase of this item and are concerned with the shipping cost know that I will do my best to work with you in finding the least expensive route. Antique Vintage Childs Doll Wooden Dome Top Trunk. Well Made and Sturdy.
This auction is for a fascinating antique vintage childs wooden doll dome top trunk. I believe it dates from the late 1800's or early 1900's. The trunk is well made and sturdy. It appears to have its original mouldings and hardware. The mouldings are similar to those on other furniture of the era. Bits and pieces of the original leather handles and hinges are still present. They need to be replaced in order to make it fully functional again. The dome is created by five separate pieces of wood that fit together in a tongue in groove configuration and are then nailed to the tops of both sides. Although the trunk is structurally sound. It shows obvious signs of wear and use. It appears that, at some point in its long life, parts of it were lightly sanded. There is no longer a key for the lock.
