Four separate stacks with this bookcase-a graduated unit with 3 different sizes. Note the top unit has a leaded glass door. Original labels on the interior and nice leopard bands on the sides. Super finish which is smooth and even. The interior height of the units is 13.5. 11.5, and two which are 9.5. The overall size of the piece is 34 wide, 12 deep, and 57.5 high. Excellent Dome Top Oak& Tin Steamer Trunk w/ Original Tray This is a very fine example of a 19th century travel steamer trunk with a dome top. The trunk is constructed of Oak and metal. Presumably tin or sheet steel. In the late 1800's when you went on a trip you would often go for more than a month at a time so you had to bring a wide range of clothing and personal items for the trip. This trunk was probably a mid range model, not the cheapest plain jane trunk but not the fanciest trunk either. One thing is for certain, they made trunks in those days to withstand a beating. This trunk is as solid as the day it was made. It open and closes easily and the hinges are still firmly in place and in good working condition. The interior still has the original paper lining. The black metal is flat and plain while the hammered metal sections ... moredepict Red stars and blue leaves. Beautifully restored antique dome-top steamer trunk. Metal sides and top are embossed with an intricate floral design and braced with oak slats. Contrasting black metal covers the corners and edges and is decorated with floral braces at the corners. Metal lock and fasteners and front. Two leather side handles have their original wear and really emphasize the age and history of this piece. The inside of the lid has a charming decoupage design. Silversmiths, Liverpool' An solid oak table-top cutlery canteen with heavy brass carry handles. It has two arch panelled doors. With brass knobs and a sprung stud locking system(but no key, alas) which open to reveal 5 fitted drawers, also with brass handles. The doors reveal a brass inlay plate with the name Elkington& Co- as per the above markings. Cutlery people will be disappointed to learn that the drawers are empty and no longer fitted for cutlery. They are beatifully lined with velvet. And it is obvious that this has been used as a collectors cabinet, a function for which it is ideally suited. It has some problems. None of which detract from the overall appearance or function- but this is ... moretoo nice a piece for me to attempt repairs. A piece of wood, about an inch long has been lost from above the door hinge, on the top right hand side, and the solid oak back panels have shrunk, and have been carelessly glued back into place- and stand a little proud. I have a dilemma. In that the previous owner applied trim under the base of the cabinet to fit securely into an'ad hoc' stand. This is a more recent piece of oak, with a ply platform shelf, and was once probably a 1950s side table. It looks quite handsome on this'stand' the difference in colour and grain of wood is not too glaring, and could well suit those who want to use it as a collectors cabinet. I have decided to sell it with the'stand' included in the asking price. But if you do not want the'stand' I will deduct £10.00 from anty final agreed price, and you will likely save a substantial amount on postage- especially overseas buyers. Finally. Rare Antique Maier Oak Slat Beveled Top Trunk, Vintage, Restored, Tray & Key!
Here is the trunk for your collection! This beautiful rare trunk was made by Martin Maier& Company of Detroit from the 1885 to 1895 period. Based on the actual dates of manufacture of the hardware. If you see a trunk with this type latch it was not made in the 1870's as many other sellers state. Because they were patented in 1882 and used into the late 1890's. I do extensive trunk research. Size: 30" wide. 22 1/2" tall, 20" front to back. A fabulous rare size, great for many uses! Very few Martin Maier slat trunks are found and even fewer flat tops with the beveled corners such as this one. This style was advertised in one of their catalogs as a"Rustic" trunk covered entirely with hardwood slats. Superior quality and based on the Excelsior trunk patent of 1868. Which most people now call Oak Slat Trunks ... moreor Victorian slat trunks. Maier established his trunk company in 1865 after serving in the Civil War. This special trunk is not common in any way! Martin Maier& Co developed their distinctive narrow slat alternating color style trunks and they are very hard to find in such good condition. These are made of hardwood strips of oak or elm and another darker wood, over an all wood body. These trunks were made to be impressive and were more expensive to make than the ordinary metal, leather, or canvas covered trunks. That's probably why they are so rare today. The special corner"lid stay" hinges are marked Pat'd April 1879 and were patented by Martin Maier too! The front catches were patented in 1882. All of the trunk's hardware is in good condition and the wood has no breaks or missing wood. No sand blasting, sanding, or polyurethane coating has been done on this trunk exterior as some other restorers do. The trunk has a very smooth finish, which is hand rubbed tung oil, the finest antique furniture finish. The interior is also beautiful with a large Victorian chromolithograph, and the Maier label! Rare Martin Maier Bevel Top Oak Slat Antique Trunk 1880s
A great size trunk. 31" wide from edge to edge, 23" tall and 20" deep. This outstanding trunk is a highly sought after Victorian Slat Trunk made by Martin Maier& Co. of Detroit, Michigan. Martin Maier slat trunks are quite rare, and the bevel corner, flat top is the scarcest of the styles. These trunks were referred to as the"Rustic" style in the Maier Trunk catalog. The Pine or Basswood box was covered entirely with hardwood slats to make it very strong. Every other slat is dark wood to produce a very dramatic affect. This trunk has been carefully cleaned, restored, and coated with Tung Oil finish. The original lock is in great working condition with the key included. Original bottom rollers are in great condition. Every item has been addressed, including new stitched leather handles with the cast iron handle ... morecaps with the stars pattern. None of the wood slats have been replaced on this trunk and they are in excellent condition with only minor age wear. Super Rare Oak Slat Trunk w/ Grooved Slats Very nice restored Oak Slat Beveled Flat Top Trunk- Circa 1880's. The oak slat trunk in general is a very rare trunk. Much more so than the Louis Vuitton's, but there were very few made with the grooved slats. I've had several suggest that this is a Martin Meier trunk, but I cannot confirm that to be true. The trim has been painted with 2 coats of flat black paint. Very solid trunk all around, nicely built, hinges are strong. The handles have been replaced with new 3-ply leather for many more years of life. The interior of this trunk is second to none and in my opinion is the best you'll find in the marketplace. For sale is a very large(and heavy) old steamer trunk. It has a flat top and the outside is covered in canvas and oak with a bottom strip of steel on the sides. It features ornate corner pieces. Solid hinges in good working order, 2 working latches, and a center hasp-type lock(unfortunately, no key) There is some of the original label still visible on the top and the side. At some point in its past it has had a protective coating(poly? applied to the exterior. The inside of the trunk is unfinished wood in good condition. The top removable tray is solid with most of its original paper covering still in place. The side leather handles have long rotted away. There are 4 bottom castors. Up for offer we have an early antique domed top wooden immigrant trunk. The trunk measures 49" long by 26" wide and is 28" tall. While woods are not my forte` we have a consensus that this is red oak. Weighs a ton solid in construction and has aged nicely. Dates 1800-1820 possibly earlier. Came out of PA estate. All Original hardware with the exception of the is intact with the exception of a decorative plate above the lock front. You have to examine closely to see, appears a decorative element as the original lock is there no key though. There is some minor loss to some of the decorative hardware edges top and such please refer to photos. The wrought iron handles are there and solid to lift. The piece must have stood on a wall as the back is considerably darker(dirty) than the rest. Bound in oak and leather with canvas ... morepanels and two interior tills. It looks like a treasure chest to me. I left it uncleaned and unrestored, just the way I found it. You can leave it dusty, or you can clean and polish it to make it pop. Ornate metal hardware(Victorian) Oak wooden slats. Tacked leather edges and decoration. The leather handles are still good. Canvas panel sides and top. Fabric lining over wood interior. Two divided tills as shown. This is trunk is in reasonably good condition for its age. The exterior shows the character of more than a century of age and use. Which includes cosmetic marks, scratches, scuffs, and oxidation to the metal surfaces(all of which looks cool to me) The exterior is dusty in general. There are a few missing nails and rivets. The metalwork and wood have a decent patina that would look even better if polished or restored. Some wood edges are well worn. The leather is dried and cracking in places, and is missing in other places as seen in the pictures, but I think still looks good. One of the four rollers underneath is not functional. Antique 1838 Wooden Domed Top Oak Immigrant Trunk Sea Chest Heart Iron Straps
This is one beautiful antique oak trunk that has a date of 1838 but I think it might be older like the late 18th century just not sure. It measures 47 1/2" wide 23 1/2" deep at top. 20 3/4" deep at bottom and 28" tall not including wheels. This trunk is in Excellent condition for its age but there is a crack in side and a piece of trim missing on side also looks like a piece of an iron strap is missing at the open lid handle also someone added wheels a long time ago. The name ANNA CATRIENA JLSABEIN LANDWEHR 1838 is on the front. The iron straps are thick with a rare heart cut out design. The bottom trim has old paint hard to see looks like red and white stripes I think. Construction was done with wooden pegs and the bottom is held together with wooden dowels. Wow can you believe I have the original key and the lock still ... moreworks. I think the trunk is German but don't see and maker name. The photos do not show the beauty of this antique chest. The unique feature was a trunk that is completely covered with strips of wood over a thick wooden body, making it more durable and attractive than others.
