FREE SHIP ANTIQUE METAL BARREL STAVE DOME TOP TRUNK WITH WOOD SLATS(163-66) With Measurements: 35"w x 21"d x 28"h Dome Top Trunks 1870-1920 Built in many sizes and styles. They generally have a curved top that slopes in both directions and built using a variety of construction methods including molded ply and barrel construction among others. Within this style of trunks are a few other names that have come about based on the positioning of the wood slates that cover the dome construction. The exact origin of these names is unknown but seem reasonable and listed below as I understand them. Barrel Stave Trunks(1860-1885) they generally date a bit earlier than most of the dome tops made and have horizontal running slats instead of vertical(end to end vs. ... moreover the top) Giving it a slightly different look. The word"stave" in this case refers to the wood slats. These trunks were mostly made from the late 1860's until about the mid 1880s when the other dome construction methods listed below became more widely used. Often early examples of this style have a graceful. Well proportioned look and the later examples into the 1870's are quite simply well made. This trunk is in good condition. Obviously it will show wear marks from age as it is over 100 years old. No rotted metal or holes present. Aren't you just drawn to these old trunks?To me. Antique ca.1890 Flat top Metal Covered Steamer Trunk
This is a ca.1890 antique flat top steamer trunk. It is steel-covered that has been painted black and floral embossed dark green and bound with oak slats. All of the steel hardwear including the brass lock and the latches are original. The leather handles have been replaced. The key is missing. It has fancy embossed slat clamps and two fingered edge clamps. The bottom has four roller wheels. It is 30"x 18.5"x 23"tall and weighs 45 lbs. The interior which is all original and has not been touched. Is fitted with a lidded tray, hat box and three lovely victorian prints. The only part that is missing is the lid for the right hand box. Colorado around the late 1800’s or may be the very early 1900’s. This trunk is clad in metal with wood slats. Decorative embossed gold hardware and canvas straps. The metal banding was used to strengthen them and for decorative design. All the hardware appears to be original. I have not tried to clean it, because some people prefer the original patina. Antique Steamer Trunk Dome Top Embossed Metal Hardwood Slats
We recently purchased this attractive antique steamer trunk at an estate sale. It has a very slightly domed top and it's covered with embossed metal in a floral design. The trunk still has both of its original leather handles and they seem to be pretty sturdy. It measures approximately 30 1/2" long X 17" wide X 19" high at its highest point near the center. The tray for the inside of the trunk is missing. The hardwood slats on the trunk look to be in good condition and all of the metal and wood on the trunk is all held in place with brass plated tacks. The bottom of the trunk is covered with black metal and 3 hardwood slats that have done a great job of protecting the trunk over the past 100+ years. There are four(4) tiny metal wheels near each corner on the bottom which makes it easier to move around on any hard flat surface. ... moreThe key is missing for the old brass lock and we're not 100% positive that the lock is functional so it will arrive open. There are two(2) hinges on the back that hold the lid securely to the bottom and there are two metal clasps that keep it closed tightly in front, one of these is bent and does not close properly, it will need to be repaired. There is quite a bit of surface rust on all the metal on the outside of the trunk but there is no rust through and there are no holes visible. The inside is clean and dry and it retains its original paper lining. Most folks like to remove the old paper, sand down the interior and then either seal the wood or line the trunk with cedar, this eliminates any lingering musty odors and makes it a nice place to store blankets or seasonal clothing at the end of your bed. Trunks like this are becoming very difficult to find and eventually I'm sure they will be extremely rare. Their uses are many and will only be limited by your imagination. This is a ca. 1885 Antique refinished metal covered flat top trunk. All parts are original. It is 28.5"x 17"x 20"tall and weighs 40 lbs. It is sometimes called a monitor or waterfall trunk. The lock is marked Pat`d April 15. 1879 and the slat caps are marked Pat`d March 1880. The key has been lost. It is clad with metal with oak slats. It is possible that it was made by Charles Taylor, New York. The interior is very unusual. It has a double tray hinged system that slides out of way on steel runners. Antique Victorian Child's Dome Top Steamer Trunk Embossed Metal Hardwood Trim
A pretty antique Victorian style hump back steamer trunk that's in good sound condition. We believe it was used by a child based on the size( 24" long X 15" wide X 17" high at the center) It has curved hardwood slats across the top and hardwood slats across the front, sides and back, there are lots of brass tacks holding the wood in place and the wood has a rich warm patina. The body of the trunk is covered with embossed tin and plain black metal. The leather handles are missing but these are inexpensive and can be purchased any of the trunk restoration sites on-line as well as right here on EBAY. It has two clasps on the front to hold it closed and there's a lock but no key, we are not certain that the lock works so it will arrive open. Two sturdy hinges on the back hold the lid securely in place and the lid fits nice ... moreand snug. The inside is nice and dry and there are the remnants of the old paper that it was lined with here and there. Most folks like to sand down the interior and apply a sealant which eliminates any lingering musty odors, another option is to line it with cedar. The bottom of the trunk is metal covered with three wood runners that have done a fantastic job of protecting the bottom. Near each corner on the bottom is a small metal wheel that makes the trunk easier to move around on any hard flat surface. These antique trunks are not often found in such nice condition, there is very little surface rust and and absolutely no rust through on the metal. A great place to store extra blankets, seasonal clothing, toys, hats& mittens, a display piece for an antique doll collection or antique toys. I once sold a trunk to a grandmother who purchased it to send her grandson off to college!

This is a very interesting piece to say the least. The lithographs represent children playing and portraits of women with borders of foliate designs amongst her images of sparrows and flowers. The wood is lined with a decorative patterned paper and the image of a girl's face-perhaps the girl who owned the trunk. It has a convex/dome top. As well as an inside tray that can come out. This flat-top trunk measures 32" x 19" x 13" The trunk is constructed of black painted metal with wooden gussets. The interior is lined with copper painted metal(I think it may be brass) The trunk has four handles and a key lock on front(the key is missing) There are two cast-iron latches on the front. These latches give the trunk a very unique antique appearance that I don't believe I've seen before. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this fine looking trunk is the markings. The trunk is named in white script"J. A. Galliers" It also has"C/O A.E.O. La Libertad. Unaccompanied Baggage" written on top. The side of the trunk has remnants ... moreof a paper tag. I can just make out a bit of the script which reads in-part: Williamson Merchant, Grace)Church Street, London" The lock is marked"4 Best English Lever" These are the only markings on the trunk. I did a google search for J. A. Galliers and found that there was an author named"John Albert Galliers" living in London. This gentleman passed away in 2011 at the age of 82. I wonder if this could be his old trunk? If so, how did it end up in Columbia, MO, where I recently purchased it at a thrift store? The trunk is in very good condition. As you can see in the photographs. It does show some wear from the age of it, but I think this only ads to the genuine patina(which cannot be faked) I suppose you could refinish the trunk, but I feel as though that would remove much of it's history. If this were my trunk I would have a piece of glass cut for the top and make it into a fantastic coffee table. C713) 1880’s– 1890’s Doll’s Dome Top Trunk Maroon& Black“Alligator” Metal Covering This 1880’s– 1890’s doll’s dome top trunk. Measuring 16” across by 10 ¼” tall by 9 1/8” deep, is very attractive just as it came from its attic; we wiped off with a stiff brush, outside, a soft brush inside. It is most unusual& beautiful as its outer covering is pressed tin as an“alligator” hide design done in maroon& black& with many variations in the sizes& shapes of its textured surface. Only a small lower back end has any loss of the black paint as that’s“higher” than the red. There are 3/4” wide metal bands across the dome& down the front of the trunk& 1 end of the back; there are 7/8” metal bands around the bottom of the lid’s front& sides as well as both top ends of the lid’s back& 1 lower end of the trunk’s back. ... moreAll the straps, painted flat black, have 5/8” round tin disks with beaded edges spaced as accents or ornaments, 4 on either side of the top& front with only 1 lost on the back part of the lid. There are also 5 grooved strips of wood added, 3 on top& 1 on the front& back at the middle, all fastened on with thin ornamental tin brackets of sorts. A third of the front’s strip is lost as is that end’s fastener. These wood trim pieces each have 2 of the round beaded accents used on the black bands. The front’s lock is still here, but it has no key; above the lock is the upper part of a latch. There are also 2 round metal disks on the dome, 1 on the front section& 1 on the back; these slightly thicker ornaments have a plain raised rounded edge with a center flower of 6 small round petals. The trunk’s 2 original leather straps are gone, but their metal end holders are still here; I’m glad, especially because each has a raised union shield of stars& bars with other stars under the shields. C713) Antique 1880s – 1890s Doll’s Dome Top Trunk, “Alligator” Metal Covering
C713) 1880s– 1890s Doll’s Dome Top Trunk Maroon& Black“Alligator” Metal Covering This 1880s– 1890s doll’s dome top trunk. Measuring 16” across by 10 ¼” tall by 9 1/8” deep, is very attractive just as it came from its attic; we wiped off with a stiff brush, outside, a soft brush inside. It is most unusual& beautiful as its outer covering is pressed tin as an“alligator” hide design done in maroon& black& with many variations in the sizes& shapes of its textured surface. Only a small lower back end has any loss of the black paint as that’s“higher” than the red. There are 3/4” wide metal bands across the dome& down the front of the trunk& 1 end of the back; there are 7/8” metal bands around the bottom of the lid’s front& sides as well as both top ends of the lid’s back& 1 lower end of the trunk’s back. ... moreAll the straps. Painted flat black, have 5/8” round tin disks with beaded edges spaced as accents or ornaments, 4 on either side of the top& front with only 1 lost on the back part of the lid. There are also 5 grooved strips of wood added, 3 on top& 1 on the front& back at the middle, all fastened on with thin ornamental tin brackets of sorts. A third of the front’s strip is lost as is that end’s fastener. These wood trim pieces each have 2 of the round beaded accents used on the black bands. The front’s lock is still here, but it has no key; above the lock is the upper part of a latch. There are also 2 round metal disks on the dome, 1 on the front section& 1 on the back; these slightly thicker ornaments have a plain raised rounded edge with a center flower of 6 small round petals. The trunk’s 2 original leather straps are gone, but their metal end holders are still here; I’m glad, especially because each has a raised union shield of stars& bars with other stars under the shields. So perhaps the trunk is older than I thought, maybe as early as the 1870’s. The diminutive handles of brown leather only measured perhaps 2 ¼” long by 1/8” thick. The bottom of

Antique Wood & Metal Flat Top Trunk- Lots of Hardware- Refinished
Super looking old travel trunk completely refinished. Measures 14" tall; 40 1/2" wide and 22" front to back. Good size for a coffee table- if you need taller could put rollers on bottom or put it on a frame. Has 2 coats of stain; one coat of poly for easy cleaning; new leather handles; new interior wallpaper. At one time it had leather straps all the way around- still has all the hardware but only has bottom part of straps on front. They just seemed to get in the way. Tons of hardware has a brassy finish and looks great. Buyer pays shipping, I ship UPS and it weighs 48 lbs when boxed. Good luck.

Antique Wood & Metal Flat Top Travel Trunk- Refinished
Flat top trunk measures 38" side to side; 20" front to back; has 2" wheels on bottom and is 14 3/4" tall with the wheels included. Rollers not original but give it the extra height it needs for a perfect coffee table; wood slats on top wide enough to place coffee cup in between. Been totally re-done- has double coat of stain with poly finish for easy soap and water clean up. Metal hardware has brassy look to it and all original. Antique Steamer Trunk-Dome Top-metal & wood bands-inside tray-circa 1890-1910
Antique dome-topped steamer trunk. Believed to be circa 1890-1910. Wood and most of the metal is in very good shape(could easily be refinished) however, the protective metal bands at corners have received some damage over many years of steamer-travel and freight-handling. The large interior tray is intact, and one of the lid-compartment doors is also intact. Note the decorative panel inside the lid, which is vibrant in color and unblemished. The interior of the trunk has the strong smell of cedar, so I'm assuming that tray construction is of cedar wood underneath the papered covering. Sorry but there is no key. The lid hinges close just slightly"off-center, but the trunk does close and latch securely with care. Can't see a maker's mark, but labels(where legible) indicate travel to NY, so assume it is of American origin. Overall, ... morea very refinish-able project, and a fine example of dome-topped steamer trunk originals! No reserve. Local pickup only. 1800's Wood Dome Top Trunk with a weave pattern metal outside. Needs restoration, or not. Hinges good, latches work 4 little wheels on bottom. This trunk is strong, sturdy and solid condition, no handles lid retainer strap broken water stains on paper in side and some paper missing. Sold as is.
