The chest does not shut good enough so you can latch it. At one time. It looked like there was a top shelve to it. Inside, one of the boards are missing that would of held a shelve on. This trunk is an unusual size and shape measuring 36.5 x 21.5 x 26 with a top that is not quite flat but not quite domed either. The trunk is in un-restored condition(see condition details for more information) and a nice find with a large amount of decorative embossed tin on the outside. Wood slats going vertically and almost all of the original hardware and latches. Untitled Document Purchased at a recent estate sale in NC full of fine antiques. This beautiful ornate trunk was a nice rare find. It has many exquisite and elaborate details. Please see images. It measures 23" tall. 30" wide and 17.5" deep. A collector's item! Looks great for its age though it does have some wear. The only parts I notice missing on the exterior are one of the leather handles and it did not come with a key. There is a name written on the right side. See photos to judge condition. It has its caster wheels. Overall it is very nice and I believe everything is original. The inside seems to be original and in very good shape for the age. Antique Dome Top Hump Back Pressed Tin & Wood Slats Steamer Trunk Herringbone
A recent estate sale purchase. An antique 1870's dome top/ hump back steamer trunk covered with pressed tin in a herringbone/ basketweave pattern. The wide tin mixed in on the edges has a pattern of tiny diamonds with dots in the center. The lid has curved hardwood slats and lots of heavy tacks holding all of the metal in place, the tacks are most likely brass plated. The previous owner painted it a shade of dark rust/ reddish brown so you will probably want to refinish it- it looks as if it could be sanded down to the bare metal and wood because the paint isn't very thick.We believe the metal handles seen in the photos are not original to the trunk, they were probably replaced with the black metal handles whenever it was painted. The handles should be leather and if you'd like to replace them(as well as the metal brackets that ... morehold them) you can find them reasonably priced at any trunk restoration site on-line(they even sell them here on Ebay) The trunk measures approximately 31" long X 20" wide X 24" high at its highest point near the center. The tray for the inside of the trunk is missing. The hardwood slats and all of the metal on the trunk look to be in good condition. The bottom of the trunk is covered with black metal and 3 hardwood slats that have done a great job of protecting the trunk over the past 100+ years. The key is missing and we're not 100% positive that the lock is functional so it will arrive open. There are two(2) hinges on the back that hold the lid securely to the bottom and there are two small metal lever-action clasps that keep it closed tightly in front. These are a tight fit and probably need lubrication but you can still get them to open and close. These clasps are stamped what appears to us to be' PAT MAY 1875' The inside of the trunk is clean and dry and it retains its original paper lining- the lid has just a hint of the original chromolithograph and the border. This trunk measures 24 1/4" x 14 x about 17" tall. As you can see from the photos on the left this trunk has been painted sometime in its past. The bottom tin is black in color with four embedded wheels near the corners. This leads us to believe that the original color of the tin on this trunk was black. You can see in the closeup that this trunk is covered with an embossed floral patterned tin covering held in place with wood straps with very ornate angle pieces at the corners. This trunk has 2 latches and one hasp type lock. Unfortunately the key for this lock is long gone. The hasps both close snugly but appear to be a little fragile. At one time there were leather handles ... moreon either side of this great old trunk. One side still has a little of the handle left. But the other sides handle is gone. The inside of the trunk is natural wood without any covering. The tray still feels pretty solid. It really makes a very pretty display piece It would look great in any area! It is a useable trunk. Both of the old leather side handles are attached still! The large front center hinge lock works fine but I do not have a key for this trunk. Both of the side front locks work well. There are no interior drawers. Here we a Victorian Era children's travel wood trunk with tin overlay. It is in unrestored original condition. Eagle Lock Company U.S.A It is a great looking vintage trunk. Well loved and traveled. The handles are long gone. The right latch does not line up. The bottom has a couple of cracks. This trunk measures 18-1/8" in length. 10-1/2" wide and 10-1/2" tall. This trunk has great character including at least three very old paper lading tags one from Charlevoix Michigan by American railway express. This trunk was well traveled in it's day. When we were inspecting the trunk we noticed what looked like an old stamp stuck to the bottom under a flap of the interior covering. This"stamp" turned out to be a very small picture. Taken obviously in the victorian era, of two adorable children. There is a name or some ... moreword written on the back in pencil so badly faded we are unable to read it. Antique Primitive Chest Trunk Wood & Tin Hand Decorated Circa 1800's
Antique primitive hand painted and decorated chest. It comes from Bergen County. New Jersey. It was in the Vander Plaat House which was once known as the Vanderbeck House. The chest is from the 1800's. It was decorated at a later date. It has green paint, metal panels, flowers, leaves, studs and mirrors. It is 35" long, 19 1/2" wide, and 20 1/2" high. There is some writing on the back of the chest(see pictures) and a sort of design on the inside of the lid. It has metal handles, and mounts. The chest has cracks on the lid and wear, but is sturdy. Antique Victorian 1800's Chest Dome Top Steamer Trunk Wood/Tin
This beautiful medium sized Dome Top antique trunk. Is in Good condition, with only minor flaws. It measures 18"H x 26 1/2" L x 14" W. The exterior is stunning. Covered beautifully in a black colored tin. With oak slats, accented with black tin hardware, and a nice brass design, that is very desirable amongst collectors. Both side leather straps are in original condition. All of the hardware is original and no longer fasten. There is no key. The inside is beautiful original wood. With steel nail heads showing(see photo) The tray is in nice condition although the lids need to be reattached. See pictures. There are rollers under this beauty, that work well, and look great. Antique Tin Clad Wood Trunk with Eagle Lock Co. Lock
This trunk is an estate find from Hop Bottom. Pennsylvania. There aren't any maker marks on the trunk. The lock is marked Eagle Lock Company- Terryville, Conn. The trunk is in good functional condition and is an excellent candidate for a repurposing. Perhaps as a coffee table. The size of the trunk is 23 1/4 inches tall x 22 inches wide x 36 inches long. All of the hardware functions normally and appear to be brass. The tin cladding and wood accents have beautiful patinas. The interior appears to be original. The interior tray is missing. The interior is lined in calico cotton with a picture of women inside the lid. It is the original interior. There is embossed tin covring the outside. Along with wood slats and metal reinforcing bands. The top is slightly humped and the two(formerly) leather handles are missing from the sides.often the case because the leather degrades. The color is really shades of grey. With brown wood slats. The first picture is too reddish, not quite accurate. The embossed tin is grey with rough patches, evidence of aging. Antique Wood Dome Top Steamer Trunk Tin Exterior Cool Design This is a great antique steamer trunk. It has wooden slats running across. It has a tin exterior which is grey in color and has a cool design. The trunk has a good amount of wear. The wood has some pieces chipped off in places. The bottom has some dents and rusting on the corners, leather handles are broken on both sides, dents on the back. It has a piece of metal nailed on the bottom for some reason. Antique DOLL TRUNK wood and metal This antique doll trunk still has it's inside divided tray and the original paper lining. The exterior is sturdy wood(has crack in lid) covered with cloth(canvas? and metal(tin) edging strips. A tin bottom and metal locks and handle holders. The hingles have some rust. The leather handles are gone and there isn't any key. The sad part is that while I was taking photos of the tin bottom, the trunk somehow locked itself and I don't have a key. I did check with the local Antique Mall and they had some that were close, but they didn't work. I'm so thankful that I took photos of the inside first! So I am giving this a low starting price and hoping that someone will love it enough to find a key. It is 20 x 11 x 11 and all original. We accept PayPal.
