Walnut Maple Antique Vintage Chest Depression Era Drawers & Glove Box Sheraton
1700- 1800's Sheraton chest/ dresser. Two toned wood. Hand carved and just a beautiful piece. I think it may be walnut and maple but could be mahogany too. Exquisite piece with the beautiful designed front and glove box on the top. This is one of the most beautiful pieces I have seen! I don't know the maker because I don't know alot about furniture so can't answer too many questions. If I guessed by looking at other ones listed on ebay it looks like a Sheraton but I don't know how to really tell for sure. But here is a description of Sheraton furniture and it is exactly like this chest with the marketry and different woods and straight and tapered legs. I do know it is very old and has the handmade handcut dovetail drawers. I am guessing the age to be circa 1700-1800's because of the handcut dovetails. Offered for bids is an early 19th century Sheraton chest of drawers measuring 42 ½” high& 40” wide. Top measures 40 ½” wide& is 19 ¾“ deep with an appropriate rear over hang. Four graduated drawers with matching flame veneered fronts. I suspect this might be walnut but may also be a brown mahogany. Bought out of Reading PA. All drawers are dovetailed& beaded. The drawers runners are worn but run smoothly. There is some small chipping to the beading. One of the balls of the right front foot has a chip. Retains its locks. Brasses are replacements. Sheraton Style Mahogany Chest of Drawers from CT ca 1800
This is your chance to own a piece of Connecticut history. This bureau is a family heirloom coming from an 18th century farm in Old Lyme. It is in very good condition for a piece that is about 200 years old. The top drawer is faced with crotch-split mahogany surrounded by inlay. Each drawer face is framed with beading. The beading is missing in a couple of places from use over the years. Each of the drawers has a lock but we have no keys for them. The hollow brass hardware is original to the piece. Some of the pulls will need repair but the brass is all there. The varnish is crazed from age and it may be the original finish. The mahogany is split in a couple of places from age and there are a couple of nicks in the veneer, all adding to the patina of the piece. The drawers are constructed of poplar. Sheraton Chest of Drawers with Carvings
This is a piece of furniture that stops you in your tracks. Solid. Lusterous cherry on top and sides, with flame mahogany veneer on the drawers done in a repeating pattern that resembles a bird in flight. Archetypal big round brasses hardware and simple, folksy carvings running along the bottom length of the leg, finishing off with scrolled feet. There is a bit of nicking to the veneer in a few places, but its old damage and somehow looks inherent. Other than that, it is in amazing condition. The drawers are smooth and the wood is beautiful. Looks like it was refinished a while back. Very, very heavy and solid. One of the nicest large bureaus I've seen-and an unusual example of Sheraton. 38" tall x 21 3/4" deep x 42 3/4" wide. I restored this piece from top to bottom. This is some of the most beautiful burled walnut I have ever laid eyes upon.This is a world class antique and a gorgeous work of art. You will never tire of looking at this beautiful chest, it is so rich and beautiful. The highly burled walnut veneer over solid walnut drawer fronts is exquisite. The chest is solid walnut. Other than the drawer sides,drawer bottoms and drawer backs which are solid chestnut. The left side panel is the most gorgeous walnut side panel I have ever seen, no question about it. The burling looks like a storm cloud/ball of fire.The cabinet maker was not just a craftsman of the highest order, ... morehe was an artist as well. The side panels are 5/8 inch thick, cut as one plank of solid walnut.The top is solid walnut with a beautiful shaped edge. The drawer bottoms. Sides and backs are all made from solid chestnut(possibly oak)Old growth chestnut is highly sought after by wood lovers, it is virtually extinct, now being reclaimed at very high prices,these chestnut drawers that I hand rubbed a finish on, they are gorgeous. The chestnut drawers bottoms are chamfered by hand planing into the drawer sides. All of the drawers were restored, some drawer runners were replaced/restored. The lower drawers have some side to side movement when they slide due to age related shrinkage.Notice the tiny hand carved dovetail, a fine display of the highest level of craftsmanship. Antique Mahogany Sheraton-Empire Chest Of Drawers Circa 1830's-40 This very handsome antique mahogany Sheraton-empire chest has four large drawers with the glove drawers and nicely done back splat. It's in a beautiful caramel swirled colored mahogany. The brass pulls are new replacements, all the drawers are dovetailed with chamfered bottoms an slide in and out very smoothly. The chest is 43 1/2 inches wide, 21 inches deep, 51 inches at highest point at top of back splat and is in very good condition with no visible repairs and just a mere age crack on either side which is very common and hardly noticeable. A very finely made antique. Circa 1810, Federal, or Sheraton, flame mahogany veneered and solid mahogany secretary desk over chest of drawers. Two piece construction. The top section has two narrow drawers over two doors that open to two cubbyholes each with slots and two narrow drawers. Below is the chest, the top with a pull forward mahogany writing frame and original green felt. Below are four graduated drawers. It retains all the original brass knobs, locks, and brass escutcheons. The case is on four turned mahogany legs, solid mahogany case boards. It measures 56" tall by 41-1/2" wide by 20-1/2" deep, the writing frame 38" by 13" the felt surface 34" by 11-1/2" Very good plus condition: original finish, attractive butterflying of the flame veneers. The chest side boards each have shrinkage crack, short ... moreedge shrinkage cracks to top board of secretary. Minor old veneer patching below or above the writing frame on the case. Superb Antique Pennsylvania Cherry Early Sheraton Chest Of Drawers Circa 1810's Western to Central Southern PA circa 1810-1820 Once you look at this chest of drawers. You will notice the excellent craftsmanship! this chest is built like a brick loo-house! it is finely finished, and well executed. the ring turned quarter columns and feet. Are typical of south central/western PA(Franklin County area and west to Bedford) and Northern Maryland. This is undoubtedly the nicest Sheraton Chest we have ever handled! The entire case is dovetailed constructed. Of solid cherry, the 2 board sides are solid, same with the top, which is applied, over a white cedar/pine 4 board slat frame which is dovetailed into the case. the bottom board is dovetailed into the base, which is two boards of white cedar/pine. The drawers are cherry with white cedar/pine ... moresecondary woods. And unusually nice tongue and groove board bottom, which are hand chamfered into the base of the drawer case. the drawer bottoms and back are nailed on with square cut nails. the drawers are all cockbeaded around the edges in cherry. And have diamond inlaid escutcheons. the ring turned feet are mortised up into the bottom of the case. And then nailed into the sides. the prolific use of white cedar/and pine as a secondary wood in this chest is quite unusual. Some have suggested that this chest is of New England Origin. However, upon examining the construction details, it is deduced this chest is indeed of Pennsylvania or Nothern Maryland origin. We had a walnut chippendale desk a few years ago. That came out of the Gettysburg, PA area with the nearly identical usage of white cedar/pine and same ring turned quarter columns. we believe the glass knobs are replacements of much earlier brass knobs. they are however. Very nice, and undamaged by the years. the finish is 100% original and untouched. And has mellowed over time to a nice warm red colour. there are absolutely no repairs and or restorations to speak of. the back has a few new round head nails to help hold

A nice antique. Circa 1900- 1920, Sheraton style solid plain mahogany and mahogany veneers string inlay high chest of drawers. The serpentine front is framed by corner full round columns having carved Egyptian capitols, the front feet carved claws. Original oval brass pulls, oval brass escutcheons with all locks, no key. Drawer interiors are maple dark stained mahogany. Chest measures 5' 60" tall by 3'5" 41" wide by 22" deep. Very good plus condition: original finish unworn, top surface with minor scratches or tiny ring spots. Small chip to a front drawer support(see photo) repair to left case board just above claw foot(see photo. The left side panel has a full vertical crack.
