American Federal Period Red Painted Dovetailed Blanket Chest Probably Pennsylvania c. 1800-20. Yellow Pine Secondaries Untouched original condition Item# 130002FHK19 This piece is simply a treasure- an untouched and entirely original American Federal Period Antique Blanket Chest crafted during the first quarter of the 19th Century. Almost certainly in Pennsylvania. It features six-board construction. Every junction dovetailed for a permanent and flexible join throughout. The surface is dry and well patinated, almost certainly the original painted surface; the history of this antique blanket chest, how it was enjoyed and used over the last two hundred years, is tattooed in the stains, abrasions and oxidized scars across it's fine dark red painted finish. The top projects over the chest with applied molding along the facing edges. This ... morewith a scratched-channel giving form to the molding, the lid lifting over original square iron hinges with untouched screws. The iron lock and catch are still original to the chest, though the key has since been lost; a crescent is worn in the underside of the top where the lid of the till has scraped over the years, this same surface inscribed" Jennise A Bowman" Vanessa C. Roscoe" along with earlier mostly illegible inscriptions and numbers. Bringing harmony to the molded top is the opposing molding of the base. This stacked with a bead over rounded molding with a scratched-channel over the bracket feet. The form of the feet are appropriate and restrained, the scroll cut bracket form giving just subtle shape to an otherwise stoic form. The dovetailed feet are crafted such to showcase the most attractive perspective of the dovetail on the forward facing surfaces; the sides join the front board with half-blind dovetails, leaving the forward facing surface of the board unblemished by visible dovetailing. Early 1800's Maroon/red Painted Six Board Dovetailed Blanket Chest
I have for sale an antique maroon/red painted six board dovetailed blanket chest. Approximate dimensions 44.5x15.5x20.5. I'm selling this piece for a friend. She grew up in a house her family built in the 1700's. This piece has been in her family since it was made in the early 1800's. Family papers were found in a secret third drawer dated back to 1828. Very Nice Antique Red Painted New England 6 Board Blanket Chest Circa 1830'S. Nice blanket chest. Lots of storage, great patina. Good red paint. Early cinched over snipe hinges. Nice cutout feet. And lid moulding. all pine construction. Great primitive look! The one end panel has had a dried out split in it. That was repaired. the back foot was broken and repaired, and reinforced at the bottom with a nicely cut glue block. i can send a picture if needed. note the piece missing on the front. we do not have that piece. local pickup. ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE RED PAINTED CHEST or Trunk 1800's NR
Sweet wooden antique trunk painted in a very bright red paint. Lots of patina. Wear to the paint, wear to the wood. Dating is approximate, as I can tell it's quite old but I'm not an expert. I took a close up pic of a nail that's sticking out near the bottom of the trunk, which you will see has a square or rectangular head and appears to NOT be machine-made. I've included lots of photos to show the particular wear to this piece. The bottom of the trunk is unpainted(shown in a pic) Could be used as a low side table or an attractive storage piece. Definitely handmade. Purchased 10 years ago at auction on Eastern Shore in Maryland. I will ship via UPS Ground fully insured for purchase price. I live near Reading. Antique Red Wood Dome Top Storage Box Trunk Painted Hearts & Flowers, Beautiful
Very nice antique brick red wooden trunk. Measures 31" x 15.5" x 14" with a domed lid. Painted with a red heart, tulips, and flowers on the front in beige, green and a little black. The top is painted in the same colors in a floral motif. This came from an estate sale on the NY/Massachusetts border, the owners state that it is from the 1800's, and based on my research, I believe that to be true.
