Fantastic 19th Century German Trunk The sides are slightly curved by design-this is not a square box. Probably for a buggy. Overall good and worn condition with great old patina and attractive wear to the wood and paint. Circa mid 1800s. The hinges and straps are original. There are missing and rusted pieces of the metal and some chips and cracks in the wood. This came to the US in the 1880s from Germany and was found in the barn owned by the same family whose relatives were those German Immigrants. Antique primitive hand painted and decorated chest. It comes from Bergen County. New Jersey. It was in the Vander Plaat House which was once known as the Vanderbeck House. The chest is from the 1800's. It was decorated at a later date. It has green paint, metal panels, flowers, leaves, studs and mirrors. It is 35" long, 19 1/2" wide, and 20 1/2" high. There is some writing on the back of the chest(see pictures) and a sort of design on the inside of the lid. It has metal handles, and mounts. The chest has cracks on the lid and wear, but is sturdy. Wonderful old quirky. Primitive mountain bin was used as a storage for corn meal, is suitable to store blankets as well. Measures 36" wide,24 tall, 15" deep. Poplar top is a 15x36" single plank. Sides and back are constructed of two pine planks each, with a single pine bottom. Wear and nicks as shown. 1800s Pine Round Top Wood Trunk Forged Iron Handles Square Nails Primitive. We are selling an antique pine trunk/ chest in its original condition.This trunk dates to about 1870s and still in good condition.There are five large dovetail joints on all corners. The cast iron handles are in very good condition. The end board on one side is a solid 13" wide plank. The pine boards are all old growth wood. The bottom planks have a few cracks in them as the pictures show. There are normal age wear nicks and bumps and dings. The size is 34" long. 16 1/2" wide and 19 1/2" tall. The lock is gone. ANTIQUE EARLY 1800's LEATHER COVERED BRASS STUDDED WOOD BOX VINTAGE 19TH C. TRUNK A rare original. Early 1800's, small trunk or document box that is covered in leather and has brass studs. It has a lock in the front and a brass handle on the top. The inside of this trunk is what I love about it! There is the original paper lining with a printed man, in a top hat, riding a horse(of the period, see photo) The lid is held in place by the leather construction and there were never any hinges. This wonderful old trunk measures approximately 13" across x 6 1/2" wide x 5" tall(not including the brass handle) I have taken close up photos to show the condition. There is wear to the leather with one side missing most of it(see photo) The rest is crackled and may have a bit missing, here and there. It is missing some of the brass ... morestuds and the paper on the inside does show wear and tear. This old trunk is over 200 years old but is still mostly together! ANTIQUE PERSONAL TOOL BOX TRUNK WOOD CHEST PRIMITIVE CHILDS AAFA
I can't express how cute this box is over the internet! It has so much detail and style. Just like those large carpenters chests that are 3' long! Measuring approximately 15" Long, 8.5" Tall& 9.5" Deep, it is a mere shadow to it's working relatives! I am unsure whether a loving parent acquired this for their child. A carpenter used it as his traveling caddy or if it truly was a salesman sample trunk. I have never seen one of this age and quality before. It is painted a beautiful vintage yellow and greenish color. The latch is a simple piece of leather which simply hooks onto a metal latch. Inside. You can see a strap of leather, this hooks to a nail and works as the holding mechanism for the lid, although it does not always stay in place, occasionally I have to hook it back on there. There is a nice little tray ... moreto hold the small tools or notions and a deep box for the other tools. The inside lid has a nice piece of leather to hold the little tools and gadgets. There were some leftover sewing notions in this box when I received it but I think it would be a fabulous display for old childrens tools or a fantastic jewelry box or display on your dresser. You definitely do not find this craftsmanship anymore! The hinges are fastened with nails. Which is the only flaw in the piece. They look to be original but there is just a little play on one of the hinges. It is by no means falling off, most likely caused by the heavy lid and not having the leather strap attached. I have not attempted to hammer these back in place, and again, the lid works fine just want to mention a tiny amount of play. Other than all of that. This blanket chest has been in my family for 50 years. It is an early primitive pine piece with lots of storage inside. It looks like it may have been stained red originally. Most of the color had faded. In very good condition and a real charmer. There are 3 old black burn rings on the top as seen in the last photo. Antique Primitive Trunk Metal and Wood Trim Distressed
We like to think this trunk came over in a covered wagon but we have no way to substantiate it. Lots of patina& kind of an unusual interior. We were so excited when it showed up in the attic of a property we inherited.
