This is an antique leather jewelry salesman's steamer trunk with brass locks& fittings. There are 10 divided drawers lined in green velvet. Some of the drawers are missing part of the dividers. There are some tears in the exterior leather and a hole in the leather in the back. The case measures 13.5" wide. 21.75" tall and 8" deep. It weighs about 19 pounds. There is a bit of a musty smell. We have not checked to see if the combination lock is working as as we do not know the combination. The lock is"as is" Other then that it is in overall good condition. LATE 19th CEN. BRASS BOUND LEATHER TRUNK-BEAUTIFUL PATINA& EXCELLENT CONDITION This beautiful English leather trunk. Dating to the late 19th century, would make an excellent end table. The trunk is covered with brown leather which has a beautiful warm patina. It is bound with brass corners and corners straps, and has brass handles with large backplates on each side. The front has two brass locks and latches. The front and both sides each have a row of copper studs running between the corner straps. The hinged lid opens to a fabric lined interior. The trunk measures 22"w x 20"h x 20"d. Condition: Aside from minor wear. Rubbing and small stains to the leather, the trunk is in very good-excellent condition. The original fabric which lined the trunk has been replaced at some point with a light maroon fabric which is also in ... morevery good-excellent condition. Beautiful Refinished 19th Century Stage Coach Trunk Solid Wood. Was covered on the outside w/ paper, but most of paper was gone paper was cleaned off. And trunk was sanded, and finished leather straps were added to the trunk. Original ones were gone I chose these straps. As the design on them was much like that of the original paper: The handle on the left side(when facing the front) is the original handle. Amazingly still very sturdy, the other is a replacement, matches very well The loop at the top above the lock is a replacement. Matches the handles The lock could presumably be made to work again. But doesn't at this time, I don't have the key either The lock is beautiful. It is a Jenny Lind style lock, very intricate and beautifully designed The inside is totally lined with leather. I chose this instead of paper or fabric since ... moreso many trunks from this century were covered with leather, I thought it would be awesome to have one lined with it instead, makes it unique and luxurious: The leather lining also has two very functional pockets on the back side. Here is a real antique. Stagecoach, train luggage trunk. It is leather over wood and it's embellished with brass tacks and a monogram. Has the bottom part of the original lock. Has both handles. The inside is covered with blue and white striped ticking or cloth. That's in very good shape. It has a drop open door in the lid that was used to put either dirty clothes or unmentionables(as they called underwear in those days) Then the top was padded and you could sit on the trunk as a seat as you were waiting for the train or stagecoach. There are two areas where I believe the hardware is not original: the back hinges and the two brass chains which hold the trunk open. I believe these were added during this century. Otherwise. Antique 1860's Stage Coach Wagon rare trunk leather brass nails old chest
Selling this rarely found stagecoach travel trunk from circa 1860 that has been refinished. The leather of the top of the trunk had shrunk to the point where it could not be reattached to the sides so I covered it with a black buffalo hide that is thick and comfortable to sit on. I think the results are pretty good.There is a minimal color difference between the old and original leather. Every brass nail is original to this trunk. Because the original leather could not be reattached to the top. I built a wooden seat, added some padding and covered it with the new hide. It functions perfectly as a seat. The interior of the trunk has a small door. It is through this small door that users would store their laundry. There is some available space to store some small items. The leather on the bottom. The sides on the top and bottom, are original. ... moreThe dust covers on the sides are original, but the cover on the front is new, as is the lid lifter. There is a lock behind the lid lifter, but there is no key. The interior is lined with come cloth that is dirty in a couple of places. I added two stays to support the lid. Handels are original, not sure how much weight they can support. Over all the trunk's dimensions are 24 x 13 x 14 1/2. I attached a picture of what the trunk looked like before refinished it. Rare. Leather covered"Gold Rush" trunk with incised leather outer covering& large brass studs, about 1850. Beautifully crafted. This trunk comes with original key and superbly made lock which still locks. Original keychain has an engraved nameplate from the original owner in Portland. Connecticut. On the opposite side. There is a masonic symbol engraving, WSSTKSHT in a circle. Original wallpaper and leather secretary attache are in great condition for age. Has typical wear for age. As shown, both original handles are present and are all there and functional. Appears to have had some original strapping that is no longer there. Small Leather-covered Trunk with Brass Studs with Attached Oak Stand
Very charming. Very old antique leather-covered trunk with superb brass stud decoration. The box is secured to its own original oak stand. Its lock is broken but that doesn't detract from its charm. The leather is in good condition, free of any tears or rips, though there is some rippling on the sides. The trunk measures 18 1/2" wide by 12" deep by 15 1/2" tall from floor to top; its inside measurements are 17" wide by 11" deep by 8" tall on the bottom half. ANTIQUE EARLY 1800's LEATHER COVERED BRASS STUDDED WOOD BOX VINTAGE 19TH C. TRUNK A rare original. Early 1800's, small trunk or document box that is covered in leather and has brass studs. It has a lock in the front and a brass handle on the top. The inside of this trunk is what I love about it! There is the original paper lining with a printed man, in a top hat, riding a horse(of the period, see photo) The lid is held in place by the leather construction and there were never any hinges. This wonderful old trunk measures approximately 13" across x 6 1/2" wide x 5" tall(not including the brass handle) I have taken close up photos to show the condition. There is wear to the leather with one side missing most of it(see photo) The rest is crackled and may have a bit missing, here and there. It is missing some of the brass ... morestuds and the paper on the inside does show wear and tear. This old trunk is over 200 years old but is still mostly together! Notes/Observations: See Photos. Grand old trunk. From the research I have done and the travel labels that are on the trunk. I would say this is c1920s and saw a lot of action on American railways. This is a Flat Top trunk. Which makes it particularly good for use as a coffee table. This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Which now have a rich patina from years of use. The lock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. The edges of the trunk are leather tacked into the wood. There is one area where the leather has split. Some additional tacks will handle this. The exterior surface of the trunk is fabric over wooden construction. The fabric is holding up very well. No fraying or missing pieces, The corners and some of the edges are metal bound. The metal has a nice dark patina. The leather handles on the ends are split. ... moreNew leather is needed there. If you restore this trunk. Then I hope you get a leather worker to make new straps(which would look great) Bottom of the trunk has wood slats over metal sheets. Inside. The fabric covering is in bad shape. The interior does not smell musty, Nice trunk. And a good item to start with if you are looking for a restoration project. Also good and usable the way it is if you like an unrestored look. Overall size: 32 3/4" wide x 20" deep x 12-3/4" high One of the wood slats is in need of repair. Up for auction is an original antique hard leather trunk. Circa 1835- 1840, made by BURR& SHAW of Providence, Rhode Island. This stagecoach trunk measures approximately 16" x 10" x 7" high. And has brass tacks all around it. They also used the brass studs for the owners initials. D. A. The trunk was acquired among many items from the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. The 101 Ranch and just a vast array of old western antiques. Without any additional provenance though, it's hard to say who the trunk belonged to. The original label inside the box. Shows Edward Burr and Bradford C. Shaw were in the business of making hard leather, boot top and hide trunks as well as valises(suitcases) carpet bags, riding saddles, gig and team harnesses. Burr and Shaw were also in the Fire Fighting business and manufactured leading and suction ... moreengine hose. Fire buckets, military caps and equipment generally.
