Hand-forged iron. The hasp and wood on the front latch are old, but later additions to replace the original lock which is gone. I would guess the green paint is about 100 years old. A late 19th to early 20th century(approximately 100 years old) hand forged iron drawer handle for a Japanese tansu or chest of drawers. Comes with one. High quality, handmade split iron nail. Expertly hand tooled, the handle is big and heavy measuring approximately 4 1/4" long by 2 5/8" widest by 5/8" thickest and weighs about 6 ounces. A little lacking on good wear. Oxidation, and patina-probably had a sheltered like-but definitely the quality of that time. In good condition. ANTIQUE (1845) OVAL WOODEN CHEST TRUNK HAND-FORGED IRON HARDWARE
Striking antique. Oval, wooden lock chest with hand-forged iron hardware. It has the date"1845" carved in the underside of the top with initials ZH and ZVSV stamped on the top and on the underside of the top. I am unsure of the origin but the area of Germany/France has been suggested. The chest was clearly built with the purpose of keeping its items secure, perhaps for traveling or shipping purposes. The chest is approximately 20.25" wide, 15" deep and 12.5" tall from the bottom to the highest point of the dome top. It weighs approximately 14 pounds. Being an old chest. It shows expected wear. It is overall very solid but does have its share of dings, scuffs, and some minor loosening of the iron band and wood bottom trim in a couple of areas. 1800s Pine Round Top Wood Trunk Forged Iron Handles Square Nails Primitive. We are selling an antique pine trunk/ chest in its original condition.This trunk dates to about 1870s and still in good condition.There are five large dovetail joints on all corners. The cast iron handles are in very good condition. The end board on one side is a solid 13" wide plank. The pine boards are all old growth wood. The bottom planks have a few cracks in them as the pictures show. There are normal age wear nicks and bumps and dings. The size is 34" long. 16 1/2" wide and 19 1/2" tall. The lock is gone. Two old brass chains hold the top open. There is some very old wall paper on the inside of the trunk. Shipping will be by fedex. Please look at the pictures as they are part of the description. Antique 1846 Meyer Family Immigrant's Trunk.German Walnut,dovetail,forged iron. Another Bygone Antiques great find! This trunk is dated 1846 and has the name Meyer on the front. Unfortunately the first name is not legible. It is made entirely of walnut. All four sides are from a single board. There are no nails. Fasteners are all dovetails and pegs. The handles, hinges and hasp are all hand forged iron. The lighter color of the wood around the rim where the lid closes indicates that there was likely a wooden lip at this joint. There is a key hole but no lock. There is a ditty box on the left end with three tiny hidden drawers. There are some splits and cracks in the wood.
