ANTIQUE Metal Bound STAGE COACH Trunk 19th Cent. Ornate Brass Lock LEATHER LINED
Beautiful Refinished 19th Century Stage Coach Trunk Solid Wood. Was covered on the outside w/ paper, but most of paper was gone paper was cleaned off. And trunk was sanded, and finished leather straps were added to the trunk. Original ones were gone I chose these straps. As the design on them was much like that of the original paper: The handle on the left side(when facing the front) is the original handle. Amazingly still very sturdy, the other is a replacement, matches very well The loop at the top above the lock is a replacement. Matches the handles The lock could presumably be made to work again. But doesn't at this time, I don't have the key either The lock is beautiful. It is a Jenny Lind style lock, very intricate and beautifully designed The inside is totally lined with leather. Most likely RailRoad, has old stickers from traveling from state to state but there hard to read do to being old, weathered and in poor condition. Has owners name painted on side of trunk and below name Cincinnati, Ohio. Inside has blue maker tag, most of the tag is missing. Trunk is in Fair to Good condition, trunk is solid with no wood rot, All the cast hardware is good, cast iron and brass lock, some of the cast iron hardware is ornate and of good quality for the time. Front latch locks have a midevil look. Missing one wheel but the caster that holds the wheel is good. Trunk has paint loss, scuffs and scratches, rips in material, rust ect. Antique Trunk Hardware Heavy Solid Brass Trunk Lock w/ Key by Hillebrand& Wolf. Lock plate measures 3 1/4 by 4 1/2. Hasp measures 3 3/4 by 3 3/4. This lock has a very rare locking mechanism. It is one of the few trunk locks that will lock without using the key. This is accomplished by a spring loaded locking pin. However. Whats more unusual than that, is what can be called a safety latch. Inserting the hasp into the lock, locks the trunk, but you can use the key to turn the latch even more, which is a secondary locking position. This made it harder for thieves to pick the lock. It's pulled slightly apart due to the cooler weather. So needs pulled back in by someone who knows what they're doing. The inner finish of the lid shows what the original finish must have been.also shows the craftsmanship of the lid. The brass lock and locking mechanism are original. The hinges aren't original. In fact. Look closely at the photo of the top and you can see the outline of old strap hinges. The trunk's wood is excellent. Antique 19th C Wood Box Trunk Linen Chest Brass Lionhead Handle Orig lock no key
Up for auction is an antique 19th C small trunk or linen chest recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. It is found in good used condition but has many surface scratches to all sides as well as having some wood loss. Photo 9. We are not sure if it was for linens, small furs, or what but it seems too large to be a glove box. This measures 11.75 x 23.5, an unusual long and thin table top size. This is 9" tall. This is missing an original nut on the handle. This has brass reinforced corners. A very nice pice in a net size. Best of luck in bidding.

Early 1840's brass bound Anglo-colonial rosewood box. Nice original"Duces of London patent No 115. lock& key plus two additional slide locks(one clasp has snapped off but comes with box) Brass bound all round with brass inlay banding& brass inlaid stars in each corner. Brass name plate in lid is engraved'Gibbes' possibly from the former Barbados plantation which is now a high end Gibbes holiday destination! The brass handle is also victorian but looks a later addition. Measuring 33.5cm x 23cm x 14.5cm. There is a crack across lid but the box is still very sturdy& in good condition. Height 7inches Depth 8 inches Length 14inches Weight 6.8 pounds Description: Rectangular oak chest with dual lateral brass carrying handles. Hinged cover with a brass hasp frieze with brass mount and padlock stamped M.W. Co. The interior is missing a former divider and some type of round object. This small box or casket has the appearance of being specially made by an artisan to accommodate an item or items of importance and value which needed security and protective handling. The brass mounts would have provided protection for the casket from damage and the lock could be original to this item. The trenching within the interior indicated that there was a former division for the contents but there is no ghosting or wear to indicate what the contents may have consisted of. This lovely old chest is in good condition for being more than 100 years ... moreold. It has some splits in the wood top and bottom that are typical for a chest this old and give it some character. The key to the padlock is not original to it. Original paint and brass hardware.

THIS IS A VERY NICE EARLY 19th CENTURY PUMPKIN PINE. 6 BOARD, STENCILED, AND DOVETAILED BLANKET BOX WITH A BRASS HASP LOCK. IT IS IN FINE CONDITION FOR ITS AGE. ALL WOOD IS IN GOOD SHAPE, THE BRASS LOCK IS IN TACT, I DON'T HAVE THE KEY) THE HINGES ARE FINE AND HELD TOGETHER WITH HAND MADE SLOTTED SCEWS. THE STENCILING IS WORN AND NOT EASLY VISIBLE ON PARTS OF THE PIECE. I'VE TRIED TO GIVE YOU ENOUGH PHOTOS TO MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION ON WHAT TO BID. IT MEASURES 26 1/2" X 12 1/2" 10 1/2" DEEP. One of a kind walnut slat covered trunk. In the style of the original Excelsior patent 1868 trunks! Size: 24" wide. 21 1/2" tall, 17" deep. Custom made antique style Victorian wood slat trunk. Made from solid walnut and cypress lining with antique hardware and working brass Eagle lock with key. Great for so many uses including coffee table. Bedroom storage, retirement or graduation chest, sea captain style chest for your yacht, etc. This is a rare flat top trunk style with an"octagon top" or beveled corners. Hand built by master craftsman John Head, this slat trunk is truly a one-of-a-kind trunk, and only ONE exists like this! Patterned after the rare original Excelsior slat trunks patented in 1868, John uses all authentic antique trunk hardware items and locks, plus hand cut wood slats, to skillfully produce a masterpiece ... morethat rivals the Victorian era high grade trunks. Every detail of this trunks reveals the high quality materials and workmanship and many hours of time devoted to making a fine work of art that is already a limited edition collector's item. Only ONE of this type trunk will ever be made! The brass slat clamps, lock, latches, handle holders, and other hardware items are antique, the rest of the parts including exterior wood slats, leather straps, sheet metal, and handles are new, but with an antique look. The trunk is constructed like the 120 year old slat trunks, with solid wood slats attached over a thick wood body of beautiful cypress, sheet metal edging and bottom, and iron lid banding, The trunk is finished with several coats of very durable, water resistant satin tung oil varnish. This lock has a spring loaded keyhole cover that works perfectly. Also included is a key that operates the lock splendidly. The lock measures 5" by 5 3/4" overall.
