Up for sale is this beautiful refinished antique flat top steamer trunk/victorian pirate chest with tray. It measures 28 1/2" long by 18" wide and 11 1/2" tall. The original canvas that wrapped this trunk has been removed and the wood was sanded. Stained then sealed with of spar urethane. The interior has been redone with a newer fabric liner at some point in this trunk's history- it has some wear and blemishes but overall it is in very good condition. This trunk is in fairly good overall condition. I am not positive as to when this was made but the hardware is classic late 1800s hardware that i commonly see on a trunk like this. The insert here is really what stood out to me it is in very good condition. In fact probably the best trunk insert I have ever seen that was in original condition and not restored. The left side of the trunk on the exterior near the top rim there is a dent with a small hole where something hit the trunk it looks like. The interior has a few spots where the paper is starting to come off or are chipped and the ledges that the insert sets on is starting to separate from the ... moresides but nothing major and not loose. The trunk has I believe it's original owners name shown under the top and on the top of insert as shown in photos. This would make a great coffee table. Made around 1880, the metal clovers? on top read(pat'd Mar 16, 1880) it is trimmed with pressed metal panels made to look like alligator skin. The trunk is solid, the bottom wheels are all in good working condition, the lid is firmly attached and it has it's inside drawer. It has wear to the surface paint, the leather side straps are missing/damaged, it looks like the front center latch was re-attached years ago with a small metal plate added, and there is a small hole in the metal along the front right edge(tried to show in picture) There maybe other small issues I missed or forgot to mention but overall this is a very nice decorative trunk that will display well. The original canvas that wrapped this trunk has been removed and the wood was sanded. Stained with minwax"cherry" then sealed with two coats of spar urethane(light sand in between coats) The interior lining has been removed and the wood was sanded then stained. The Trunk shows obvious aesthetic signs of age but these details give it the perfect patina and look. The structure of this trunk is solid and it is very functional as a coffee table, blanket chest, etc. A great piece with tons of character that will be the focal point of any room. Up for sale today we have an antique wood storage trunk chest. This antique storage trunk features latches that were patented June of 1877. Therefore the chest may be dated sometime during the late 1870's-90's. This storage chest is in very good overall condition for it's age, but the backside of the chest has a split in the wood on the rear left latch. The locks feature a cross style that turn to unlatch the chest. The interior features a variety of styles of paper coverings over the shelf and underside of the lid. Wow! Cabin/ beach/ cottage/ loft/ apartment: Coffee table possibility! From the internet: In 1850. Jenny Lind, the Swedish Nightingale" came to America and had a two year concert tour. She had trunks which were made in London which were soon copied by trunk makers all over America, which we now refer to as Jenny Lind trunks. They were usually leather covered, with several iron or Brass bands around the trunk, fastened with large brass studs, and they curved in at the center.They are often called Bread loaf trunks. These trunks were often very decorative with brass locks, fancy tooled leather and elaborate interiors with paper lining and trimmings. Models made with brass banding are referred to as"brass bound" Jenny Linds. They were so popular that the style continued until the 1870s in many sizes and varieties, including doll ... moretrunks. Some also refer to these trunks as"stagecoach" trunks as they were also used for stagecoach travel. This is very unusual trunk looks like it was made in the 1800s. It was discovered in the attic of an 1836. NY farmhouse. We have no patents or dates to verify its actual age; however. Given the materials, the condition, and the style we are quite certain of this statement. It could be older. If you are an expert on trunks, and recognize this particular style, please let us know. He will be happy to incorporate any additional information in our listing. The stagecoach trunk has brass decorations on metal straps. It has some leather straps still remaining. One leather side handle is still present. We believe the original leather hinges were replaced at some time with the metal ones you see. Original Vtg Antique 19th Century Wooden 4 Drawer Tood Chest Box Iron Handles
This is a nice. Heavy solid wood four drawer tool chest with a sturdy iron drop handle on each side. The finish has a fantastic darkened, aged patina with cracking/crazing and thickening of the finish from age(shown close-up) One of the wooden drawer pulls has been replaced with an old brass pull and it looks like a wooden panel once attached to the front of the box, but it is no longer intact. There are some remnants of paper labels on the chest, but they are very darkened, worn, and no longer readable. All four drawers open and close easily, and the chest is perfectly useable and displayable. Antique Vtg 1890s Camelback Salesmans Doll TRUNK Arthur Kuhn One Price Clothier Antique wooden trunk from the 1890s. Marked"Arthur Kuhn- One Price Clothier. Lake City, Minn. In 1899. Arthur Kuhn took a job in New York to do window dressing for a large store. This was evidently a salesman's sample trunk. But would be suitable for dolls, as well. Made of wood and covered in decorative paper. Inside and out. Metal strap goes around the lid. Camelback styling with inner tray. Leather handles, but one is missing. Measures 12 inches long. 7-1/2 inches wide and 8 inches tall. Original hinges in good working order. Clasp is"as is" and there is no key. It does not lock and opens easily. Good. Vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. There is wear to the paper lining the outside and inside, as shown. Please see photos ... moreas they are considered part of the description. UP FOR AUCTION IS THIS VINTAGE CANVAS AND WOOD FLAT TOP STEAMER TRUNK. THIS IS PERFECT BECAUSE THE SIZE IS NOT TOO BIG OR TOO SMALL. THE ACTUAL WEIGHT IS 35 POUNDS AND THE MEASUREMENTS ARE 32" WIDE. 20" TALL AND 18" DEEP. THE CANVAS IS GREEN AND ALL THE WOOD SLATS ARE INTACT. SOMEONE ADDED A BRACKET FOR THE LID TO STAY OPEN ON ITS OWN. ALL HARDWARE IS IN PLACE AND IS SHOWING NORMAL WEAR FOR AGE. THERE IS A SHIPPING LABEL FOR THE RAILROAD STILL LEGIBLE.
