antique Civil War Navy SAILOR'S TRAVELING SEA TRUNK dated "1865"
This old sailor's wooden trunk measures 28" long x 19" wide x 21" high and shows dovetailed construction with rope handles on sides. Dating from the Civil War. The seaman who owned the trunk penciled an inscription in three lines on the underside of lid which is hand written and difficult to decipher but it has a date visable"November 1865" and his name is on the bottom line(difficult to make out) The trunk is heavily constructed with reinforced iron strap hinges that go all the way around and they are held in place with old hand forged rose-head nails. Also of interest is that it still retains both of its original hemp rope handles and there was some old shells in the bottom when the trunk was found. Condition: the right clasp hinge with eye bolt is missing and was replaced with another clasp. Some of the nails ... moreholding the strap hinges are more modern replacements but could easily be removed and square nails put in their place. Some of the wood slats are cracked. One rope handle is detached but both could be replaced easy enough. The trunk is still very sturdy. If you collect Civil War era Navy or mid 19th century nautical items. The trunk has a broken strap on one side and the back of the truck has a hide missing(see photo) and the trunk is sold AS IS. The weight of the trunk is about 20 pounds and is all original with some of the tacks discolored and the lid is slightly ajar.

This is a nice antique steamer trunk for your collection. I purchased it with several antique dolls inside that dated from the 1880's. I am not sure of the exact age. As this is not my specialty. It measures 21" long, 11" deep and 9" tall. It is covered with leather/hide and still has some of the remaining fur. Handles are original and have been handmade. The paper inside appears to be the original lithographed covering. It is a nice sturdy trunk with no repairs. If you have any questions, please ask. Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Civil War Trunk with Working Lock. 2 Keys and a hidden compartment in the top of lid. My husband and I have refinished over 130 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is a very nice refinished Civil War trunk with a small amount of a dome in the top of lid. Imagine what this trunk has been through being used during the Civil War time in our history's past. The particular d imensions for this are 30" length. 17" width and 17" heig ht. This particular trunk would be a nice trunk for a college student. Or a wonderful place to store keepsakes. We refinished this particular trunk by taking ... moreoff the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. Inside and out. The inside of the trunk was built with the rough cut appeal so we sanded finely to leave the natural look. A fter t his. We applied Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the trunk a nice shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We then attached 2 new Amish made black leather hand l es. We also put on a new lock with 2 working keys. Attached to the lid of this trunk we applied two new chain stays so it will remain opened when wanted. On the inside of th e lid you will find a secret compartment. It folds down so you can store small things in there. Working the way down to the b ottom of the trunk you will notice that it is in wonderful shape. With no holes or cracks in the wood. For sale is a very rare antique steamer trunk. The trunk is very large and completely covered in brown leather. The leather has some cracks but for 150 years old. The leather is considered in good shape. There are rolling wheels on the bottom and wood slats on the top. The top also had the words"warranted sole leather" imprinted in the leather. This trunk also has possible ties to historic NY(brooklyn) politician JB Wass, who was a consultant to president Ulysses S Grant. If you search the web you can find reports sanctioned by Grant where JB Wass made recommendations on locations of illegal liquor distilleries in Brooklyn) The side of the trunk has personalized label complete with name and address. The inside of the trunk had an incredibly rare drop down compartment with a green envelope type thing attached with gold trim decoration ... moreand logo. Again you will not find a trunk like this. With a history and such an ornate design anywhere. It could use a restoration or would be a great conversation starter as it it stands now. Antique Civil War Era Trunk with Deer Skin Covering
For auction is an antique trunk with deer skin cover and remnants of a fringe. zThis trunk dates to the Civil War era and is in excellent condition for its age. Generally. With a trunk of this age, only pieces of the original leather covering remain. This one has 95+% of its original covering. Due to age, some of the sections are cracked and split as can be seen in the pictures, but- as is- it would be a handsome piece to display in your home. It retains its original handles and locking mechanism but I do not have a key. It id also decorated with round head brass tacks on all four sides and the top. Two nails show on the inside top left corner where they missed hitting the top side but this does not affect the integrity of the piece. Also, since the hinges were made of leather, they cracked years ago. The top fits snugly and the interior ... moreis pristine. The top of the trunk is slightly ddomed. It measures 24" wide, 14" deep and 14" tall.

Refinished Civil War Era Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest Very Nice
I am listing a Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Civil War Era Trunk. This trunk is probably from the mid 1870's period. As some of the hardware is marked 1872. T he trunk's dimensions are from left to right across the front- 26 inches. From floor to top is approximately 19 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 inches. I have removed all of the original paper that covered this trunk, inside and out. The trunk is made entirely up of pine wood. The wood has been finished with three coats of clear lacquer. The wood is in great shape with a couple of stress cracks in various places which are quite common on trunks this old. This one comes with the original tray. The front latches are also original and do work. The side handles are really unique and quite rare to see anymore. They are made of wood and are usually broke. These ... morere in excellent shape. Going to the interior, I have finished the interior wood with two coats of clear lacquer. The interior is in pretty good condition considering how old this trunk is. The exterior bottom underneath the trunk has normal wear. It also has the four factory original rollers and slats. Antique Stagecoach,Civil War Era, Round Top Trunk, ca 1860
For your consideration is a beautiful anti que round top Civil War era trunk. It is also known as a stagecoach trunk. Based on the lock. The hand forged iron handles and the hand forged nails I believe this trunk dates to 1850-1860. Also please notice the quality. Unusual, hand cut. Dove tailed corners. This trunk is made from six solid pine boards. All sides, top, and bottom are made of a single wide pine board. The top has a couple of small cracks due to the wood losing its moisture over its 150+ years of life. It comes with a working lock but missing the key. The trunk measures 30" wide X 15" deep X 13" high. It does not have a tray as trunks during this time were not equipped with trays. Antique trunk chest - Civil War Era - Brendel's Hat Store Galena IL
Dimensions are 30" length) x 24" width) x 20" depth) Not sure the maker of this trunk but it came from Brendel's Hat Store run by John F. Brendel on Main Street in Galena. IL and there's plenty of interesting history behind that: Mr. Brendel first saw the light of day Nov. 15. 1815 at Neuemuhl, Baden, Germany. In 1836 he came to American and located in New York for a short time, from which place he passed on to Cincinnati, O. where he met and married Miss Margaret Miller, of Buffalo, N.Y. After working several years at his trade, that of a tailor, in Cincinnati, he came to Galena in 1842 and opened a merchant tailoring store, soon after taking into partnership a Mr. Held. That gentlemen remained in business with him but a few years, when he withdrew. Mr. Brendel ran the business alone very successfully for a number ... moreof years, when in 1871 he took into partnership with him his eldest son, John, who died about three years ago. From that time till the present the firm was designated as Brendel& Son. As a business man he was both successful and unfortunate. He made a great deal of money, and but for unforseen[sic] and unpreventable reverses he might have died a very wealthy man. His first streak of bad luck was a fire in December, 1845, where the Johnson building now stands. This was only the first of a series of similar accidents, he having burned out no less than five different times with heavy loss each time. The second time he burned out was in'53 where the Nagle building now stands. On the 1st of April, 1856, his property went up in smoke in the great Schmohl block fire. In June, 1859, his household goods were destroyed by fire while living in the Maxeiner building. Completly refinished Antique stage coach trunk from civil war 1865 Era
Completely refinished antique flat top trunk also called stage coach trunk. This trunk dates back to the civil war era. I installed new double ply stitched leather handles. very strong) made by local amish here in central PA. Also the leather straps and buckles are new and fully functional. The exterior was cleaned. Brushed& sealed for protection as well as conservation, I leave the cracks& dents to preserve the character the the trunk has ocumulated over the many years. New high end fabric interior was put on after stripping. Cleaning, brushing, drying and sealing the interior. some say fabric was not used for the interior originally. But I have seen it on occasions and always in much better shape then wall paper, so for personal preference and long lasting I choose fabric for most of my projects. Antique Civil War Era Child's Paper Covered Trunk Excellent Condition
For auction is an antique child's(doll) trunk from the Civil war era. It is covered in figured paper and the covering is as complete as any I have ever seen. Only a small amount near the back hinges is missing. The original metal hinges have been replaced with leather ones but this modification was probably done one hundred years ago. The leather straps appear to be original and the nail holding one of the ends of the right side handle needs to be reclinched on the inside of the trunk. As is. It pulls through the wooden side when pressure is exerted on it. One of the more amazing features of this trunk is that the lock is still attached and the original key serves to lock and unlock it. Usually, the locks were removed and one almost never finds one with both the lock and the original key. It has one removeable tray and the original decoration ... moreon the inside of the top. Antique 1850's Civil War Era Robert Burr Leather Stage Coach Chest Trunk
Up for auction is an incredible attic found. Rare Robert Burr, signed leather stage coach truck in original condition. This was recently pulled from a family home attic crawlspacee and was FULL of family history documents from the 1850's-60's, some of the contents are included with the sale. This is a beautiful surviving example of Boston's Robert Burr Trunk Manufacturer. I am seeing this called an officer's Ditty Box. This trunk has hand tooled designs on the top and is decorated with brass tacks all over in wonderful primitive designs including the initials of the owner Gilbert Jillson of Woonsocket RI. There is a wonderful clean manufacturer label and a secret compartment. The leather is still in relatively good condition but the straps are partially missing. Photos show the condition. I don't see any repairs. This ... moretrunk measures 27" wide x 15" deep x 12" high. Under the lid there is a compartment that is opened by removing a wooden stick through cloth straps. This compartment opens and can fill the top possibly with clothing or documents. I don't know. The lock is brass and has a large leather protecting flap that would be strapped shut. No key but the lock appears to most likely work. This truck was full to the top with family history including Civil War tin types. Land deeds, love letters etc. Included with the trunk are a few interesting documents. There is a Woonsocket RI Patriot newspaper from 1865. Communication letter to a land buyer stamped and dated 1854, an advertizing postcard for Animal Veterinary Surgeon Levi Wilson, 1857 complete original land deed and original 1858 land survey. You are welcome to inquire after the sale about other contents but I am including only what I have just described. Antique Civil War stage coach steamer trunk owned by Col H Crandall R. Island
This is an original Civil War steamer trunk owned by Col. Henrie Crandall from Rhode Island. Makes a nice conversation piece. A piece of History of the Civil War. It does has wear and tear but it is solid. It is in its original condition. Please study the pictures. Col. Crandall was born November 30. 1829 at Voluntown, Ct. From 1860 to 1866 he was Assistant commissary General of the State of Rhode Island. For a period. Under Governor Smith's administration he served as Acting Adjutant general. At the outbreak of the Rebellion he went out as Sergeant in the First Battery. Col. Crandall was Aid on the Staff of both Governor Turner and Governor Smith. Antique Louis Vuitton steamer trunk with Civil War history
You are bidding on an authentic Louis Vuitton steamer trunk. Serial# 40294, purchased per Louis Vuitton France, around 1892. All materials are original except for the lock. The top leather strap is missing. There are a few tears on the rear of the trunk. Truck dimensions are 36 inches wide x 20 inches deep x 21 inches high. The ends of the trunk are personalized by a red trefoil with"New York" written within and the initials"A.S.W. written below. The red trefoil is the regimental symbol of the Army of the Potomac, II Corps, 2nd Division. The trunk belonged to General Alexander Stewart Webb, Medal of Honor winner at Gettysburg, and later president of the City College of New York for 32 years. My grandfather was the caretaker of Ventfort Hall(an estate in Lenox. MA built by the Morgan family and later occupied by the Roscoe Bonsal ... morefamily) My grandmother was a domestic at Springlawn(a neighboring estate in Lenox, MA) built by John Alexandre. One of General Webb's daughters married John Alexandre and so the Webb family were frequent visitors at both estates. Trunks is all original as found condition a great reenactment piece. The lock has an eagle stamped with a skeleton type key in its talons it may have been a military issued trunk. I've found and sold over 200 jenny lind trunks this is only the 2nd I've ever seen with an eagle stamped into the acorn shaped door over the keyhole. Antique Brass Bound Jenny Lind Steamer Trunk Civil War Era
This is a very uncommon"brass-bound" Jenny Lind trunk. Jenny Lind trunks are named for the Swedish singer Jenny Lind who toured the United States from 1850-1852. They are identified by their"loaf-of-bread" shape when seen end-on. Most Jenny Lind Trunks were wrapped in steel bands with brass buttons. Less-commonly. They were wrapped in brass-bands or, in this case, steel bands wrapped in brass sheeting. This trunk is also distinctive in that the top curves front-to-back and side-to-side; most Jenny Linds curve front-to-back only. This trunk probably dates to the Civil War period as it was originally covered in paper. It has all its buttons. Which is uncommon for a Jenny Lind(these buttons are steel) It has its original lock plate and hasp(though the lock does not work and there is no key. Note the last photo is a composite ... morewhich shows the lockplate from behind and the hasp) The trunk also has its original wooden handles and metal handle loops. The trunk was missing its tray and upper door when I got it; I have remade these with wood from an historic home torn down near here which has been planed to the appropriate thickness. I have done some other repair work to make it functional and sanded down the wood. I have not applied any finish; will leave that to the buyer. The trunk has some issues. As you will see from the photos. Some of the brass banding has torn away. There is a crack across the lid(which does not affect it structurally) The trunk has had several sets of hinges over the years. The wood is chipped, dented, discolored, worn, and very dry. It is a true antique and will have to be treated as such- carefully. Please ask all questions before bidding. Shipping in the lower 48 Unites States only. Trunk will be well-wrapped and boxed. You are bidding on an Antique Civil War era trunk- Victorian age railroad trunk chest coffee table as pictured. Very clean on the inside- totally restored. It is marked" Paris" Has all original square nails and original hinges. No key for lock. This trunk is what was called a" paper trunk" Described in Antique Trunks book by Edelstein and Morse page 35. When the Civil war started. The trunk makers went to paper that imitated the more expensive etched leather. Because of the condition of this trunk when I got it; it was covered in contact paper and looked horrid. We stripped the contact paper out which pulled up the old 1800's imitation leather paper under it, so we we stripped all paper out and restored it to it's original wood condition.
