Circa 1820's Federal Cherry Chest Of Drawers W/Flame Mahogany Front - Two Tone
Circa 1820's Federal Two Tone Chest Of Drawers From a local estate this piece made in the 1820's out of mainly Cherry wood with Flame Mahogany veneered fronts. The piece is solid and of heavy construction with the front drawers being anywhere from 1 to 1 1/2" thick. Each drawer is of tongue and groove construction with the key holes having either Maple or Ivory inserts. The drawers do open and close smoothly. Second drawer has beaded edge work all around front face. The only problem with this piece is the numerous veneers chips on the sides and edges of some of the drawers and front fascia. Most of them have been there forever and really aren't that noticeable but you look at the photo's and decide for yourself. We'd like to believe it adds charm and character. The other problem is a small piece of one of the back ... morefeet is missing and there is an ink blotch on the top both of which can be seen. Again, it is to be expected for a piece this old but otherwise it is solid, sturdy and clean. Just a great piece of early American history that would make a great addition to any home and a wonderful investment as well. This massive chest features its original finish. Hardware, fan carvings on the top and bottom drawer fronts, period hand cut dovetail joinery on the drawers and chamfered drawer bottoms. This fine chest is a quality piece and offers a massive amount of storage space with its numerous deep drawers. The tasseled key works all the locks. This huge chest is a two part piece with the top lifting off the base to allow for easier moving during shipping and handling. This chest is in wonderful antique condition solid and tight. There is an old repair to one of the finials, and there is a chip to the wood in the top left ... moreside front, and left side towards the back.
