And it is not too dirty and worn. Back side looks to be a red velvet or felt material. The ornate latch is present but does not work. The bindings are a little loose but still intact. This piece originally had cabinet card photos in it when I found it, and I have been selling off the cards separately. The picture holes roughly fit 6"X4" maybe 7"X5" cards. Pages inside are a little dirty in places and have some smaller tears here and there. Overall great piece to use with your photos or to display. YOU WON'T FIND ANOTHER! The other book looks to have a metal soldier on the front. Possibly a Civil War soldier. The front and back are a soft cloth material. Bindings are a little loose but still functional. A few dirty spots on the outside and inside. Some of the pages have rips or tears. This book can house different sizes of photos within the pages. The latch on the side does not work. Antique VICTORIAN Era Monitor Top STEAMER Trunk w/ Wood Slats CONSERVED/Restored
Beautiful Victorian Era Steamer Trunk. This trunk has been conserved or restored. Has had quite a bit of work, but the only thing that has been added& isn't original to this trunk are the leather handles. Everthing else is original to this particular trunk The trunk had 3 coats of paint that were removed from its exterior. Afterward it is was polished witha metal polish, there is still some patina, after 100 plus years it is almost impossible to remove all of that with just cloth and polish lol The paint was light green and off white. In certain places small remnants of the paint may remain. Without damaging the surface of the trunk it is very hard to totally get it all off. Also I think it adds to the already very rustic beautiful charm of the trunk. It is important to note the color variations you see in the pics on the metal ARE ... moreNOT paint. This is actually a pattern in the metal. One the end pieces I think it is patina and discoloration. But the middle piece on lower portion, and next to end pieces on top, I think it is the way the metal is made. It is very beautiful, and seems purposefully placed There is very gorgeous and unique hardware. There are little flower or star shaped medallions on top of trunk and on the front of trunk The wooden slats have been sanded stained and finished The handles were replaced with strips of 100% leather Interior of trunk was stripped of all inside paper. It has been left natural wood so new owner may leave as is. Or finish out to suit their needs best. One of the most unique things about this trunk is the locks on either end of trunk. And latch in center Normally one most I have seen. There will a latch on both ends, and a lock in center, this one is reversed! Beautiful Victorian Era Steamer Trunk. Camel or Hump Back Style. Wooden slats across the top. Sides, front and back. The lock is yale. Has the greatest little clover or club design on it. The hardware is gorgeous. Victorian style, trunk style is common or the trunks produced in the late 1800's, 1880's. Large dome. Camel back style. Not slightly domed like some. Very likely belonging to someone from an upper class, usually camel back trunks were bought by people from higher classes, they were more expensive and people bought them b/c they were more beautiful, and b/c they would be placed on the top when they traveled. If their trunk was on top, they rationalized their trunks and belongings would be safer. The trunk is in great condition for its age. The latches however dont latch well. 1870-1900 Victorian Antique Steamer Trunk or Chest, of the "Titanic" Era
This is a well preserved. Collector-quality antique chest with a rounded top. A photograph aboard the Titanic shows a trunk very similar to this one. The well-known"Titanic" which sank on its first voyage. Though thought to be unsinkable. Read about the"Unsinkable Molly Brown" saved alive from that ship. Steamer trunks" were standard luggage for traveling aboard ship in those days. Nothing is missing on this trunk except the key to the lock! Helpful for someone interested in restoring it. Even the antique leather handles( 150 plus years old) are strong and intact! and were used to lift the empty trunk for its recent journey from its purchase point. View the photographs of each of the thick leather handles. Recently purchased from an estate sale in Southern California. For its age, this"treasured" chest is ... morein truly in excellent shape. The trunk opens and closes work as should. There is no warping. No"musty" smell. This trunk is as is. With all of the interest and beauty of its aged condition. On the edges where the lid and the lower portion of the trunk meet. The flower-embossed tin sheet metal shows the patina's original condition, a golden copper sheen. The sturdy sheet metal on the very bottom of the trunk is plain un-embossed sheet metal. Black in color with wooden slats. In a"grease pencil or crayon" on the bottom of the trunk on one of the wooden slats appears"32 x 84" The bottom of the trunk shows evidence of wheels once attached in each of the four corners of the trunk. No labels have yet been discovered in the trunk which would reveal more about its origins. There is some writing on the bottom of the trunk on one of the wooden slats indicating"32 x 84" This trunk or chest is better than average condition from what I've seen on eBay. This is what I do know in one of the brass hinges i can make out 1880 and from the picture inside the trunk leads me to believe it is from the Victorian era.Please look very carefully at pictures we have not done anything to it not even wipe it off I don't know how to clean it and don't want to cause any damage to this item lid open and closes good stays up on its own all the hinges work however I don't have the key. Here we a Victorian Era children's travel wood trunk with tin overlay. It is in unrestored original condition. Eagle Lock Company U.S.A It is a great looking vintage trunk. Well loved and traveled. The handles are long gone. The right latch does not line up. The bottom has a couple of cracks. This trunk measures 18-1/8" in length. 10-1/2" wide and 10-1/2" tall. This trunk has great character including at least three very old paper lading tags one from Charlevoix Michigan by American railway express. This trunk was well traveled in it's day. When we were inspecting the trunk we noticed what looked like an old stamp stuck to the bottom under a flap of the interior covering. This"stamp" turned out to be a very small picture. Taken obviously in the victorian era, of two adorable children. There is a name or some ... moreword written on the back in pencil so badly faded we are unable to read it. Up for auction is a Late 1800's Numbered ANTIQUE LEATHEROID trunk NUMBERED 6065. Made by the Leatheroid Manufacturing Company. This is a historic company with an impressive history. IT IS A VICTORIAN ERA STEEL LINED TRUNK IN GOOD CONDITION. It has AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY stamped on the top of the TRUNK so I'm guessing it was owned and used by the company. The inside still has the felt like lining that has some kind of staining that you can see in the photos. The bottom has a hole in the leatheroid that measures 4"x3" It doesn't go all the way through because of the steel lining which you can see in the photos. There is a partial label or stamp on the top with American Bank Note Company printed on it. Still has all of its original locks. But no key. 19th Century, Victorian Era, Metal Flat Top Steamer Trunk Named: J. A. Galliers
Victorian Era English Flat-Top Trunk Named: J. A. Galliers Click on photos to SUPERSIZE! Here's a truly fantastic. 19th Century, antique travel trunk for you. This flat-top trunk measures 32" x 19" x 13" The trunk is constructed of black painted metal with wooden gussets. The interior is lined with copper painted metal(I think it may be brass) The trunk has four handles and a key lock on front(the key is missing) There are two cast-iron latches on the front. These latches give the trunk a very unique antique appearance that I don't believe I've seen before. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this fine looking trunk is the markings. The trunk is named in white script"J. A. Galliers" It also has"C/O A.E.O. La Libertad. Unaccompanied Baggage" written on top. The side of the trunk has remnants ... moreof a paper tag. I can just make out a bit of the script which reads in-part: Williamson Merchant, Grace)Church Street, London" The lock is marked"4 Best English Lever" These are the only markings on the trunk. I did a google search for J. A. Galliers and found that there was an author named"John Albert Galliers" living in London. This gentleman passed away in 2011 at the age of 82. I wonder if this could be his old trunk? If so, how did it end up in Columbia, MO, where I recently purchased it at a thrift store? The trunk is in very good condition. As you can see in the photographs. It does show some wear from the age of it, but I think this only ads to the genuine patina(which cannot be faked) I suppose you could refinish the trunk, but I feel as though that would remove much of it's history. If this were my trunk I would have a piece of glass cut for the top and make it into a fantastic coffee table. I have a similar vintage trunk type coffee table in my own home, otherwise I might keep this one. I'm confident that this item will make for a very interesting addition to any collection. Antique Camel Back Victorian Era Steamer Trunk Double Lock ca. 1871 Original NR!
You're looking at a Victorian era camel/hump/domed/barrel back steamer trunk wrapped in tin ca.1871. This trunk is showing the overall wear you'd expect to see on something over a century old but I'd say this is in fantastic shape for its age. I'll describe the flaws as best I can but please use the photos provided to make your own assessment. It has a double key lock which works but is a bit tricky and. The key is present but cannot be removed from the lock(I didn't wanna pull too hard) The leather handles have torn off over the years and one wheel on the bottom is missing along with one of the decorative metal pieces on the lid. The original lidded insert(which rarely survives) is completely intact however. There is a tear in the left lid(see photos) Most importantly. It appears that no one has tried to paint, paper ... moreor modernize this in any way. The hardware hasn't been painted, the interior still has what appears to be the original paper lining(no wall paper) and the nails all appear to be original. Dimensions are: 32" width. 18" depth, approx. 26" height at the peak of the domed lid. In my humble opinion. This trunk could be displayed as-is with all of its original character or would be an excellent candidate for restoration! eBay limits the photos to 12 but if you'd like more. Victorian era steamer trunk repurposed as a desk
I have a beautiful Victorian era steamer trunk. Repurposed as a folding desk, with a gorgeous blue crackle finish chair with a medium brown under paint. This is perfect as a focal point for any family room or child's bedroom, can be folded down and closed up if desired. I have converted the hanging rack to accept letter sized file folders, this trunk has four drawers on the left I will include the hangers and other accessories with the purchase. All latches work, I had planes to refinish the inside however the original fabric is intact and in pretty decent condition, I decided to leave it be. The desk top was originally a French provincial coffee table, cut down and piano hinged to permit closing the trunk. It has a single leg that can easily be removed and stored inside.
