Vintage Copper Nautical Sailboat Weathervane, Directionals, Lightning Ball
This is a fantastic vintage copper sailboat weathervane with N. S, E, and W directional and copper lightning ball. It is made of three pieces that can be disassembled; the sailboat, directional piece with lightening ball, and long copper pipe. It measures about 92" tall fully assembled. It seems to work well and turns easily in the wind. I don't believe it is incredibly old but does have some age to it. There is a bullet hole in one of the sails, some rust on the non-copper pieces, and there is a cracked spot on the long pipe(shown in the photos) but there are no bends in the pipe or any sign of weakening from the crack. It will be disassembled, shipped in two separate boxes, and insured.

Massachusetts, which was for years the most important Whaling port on the East Coast. As he stands now on his wooden stand he is 18 inches tall and 25 inches long. He is full-bodied gilded copper. Much of the gilding has worn away reveling patches of old copper and verdigris creating a complex and beautiful patina. His surface is completely stable. With no flaking or chipping. All of his seams are tight and he seems to have escaped the indignity of being involved in target practice. He has no serious damage, but there are two small dings, one on each side just before his tail. This Whale is so beautifully made that. In addition to being fine piece of Americana, it is, in itself, a wonderful piece of sculpture. And he still turns cheerfully on his supporting rod.
