Antique ORIGINAL copper/iron/milk glass WHITE ball LIGHTENING ROD complete
This is one of the original lightening rods that was on the roof of the old farm that we bought in MI. The farm was built in 1912. The tripod used to attach it to the peak of the roof is made of iron. The tripod legs straddle the peak and are attached with screws. The pointed post is made of copper and has a lovely. Aged patina. The glass ball is made of white milkglass. I do not see any markings of any kind on this ball. The total thing stands 5 feet 5" tall with the tripod going straight down. The ball is about 4" in diameter. The heavy metal ground wire went from one lightening rod to the next and finally down the corner of the house and was securely anchored in the ground several inches with a long metal stake. This item will be shipped in two seperate boxes. The glass ball will be shipped seperately and insured. Due to the ... morelength of the rod. It will be classified as a large and irregular package. It comes with the 2 copper ferrules that cover over the ends to cover up the chips(which are common on these bulbs) There are no cracks in the bulb. This is a nice piece of American farm history. Vintage Emerald Green Lightening Rod and Ball
Up for auction today is a beautiful lightening rod and emerald green cut-to-clear ball. This piece stands approx 16" high and 2 3/4" wide. It is an egg shaped ball. I was told when it was purchased that it is either Hungarian or Czech. This makes sense because the Czech's do the glassware in cut-to-clear. It was never used. As the base is flat and the cable connector does not appear to have ever been used. This would make a beautiful piece to add to your collection or to purchase for the collector in your life. 1930s / 40s Complete Lightening Rod with Glass Ball
RARE Vintage 1930s/ 1940s Copper Lightning Rod with White Milk Glass ball off an antique barn in Upstate NY. The rod measures 3' tall. The milk glass ball measures 5" There are some small nicks at the bottom of the glass ball, most likely from being up on the barn in the elements for all these years. Rod is made of copper and has a nice verdigris patina to it. There is a weathered iron mounting bracket that the rod sits in/ ball rests on. The mounting brackets are a little bent but can easily be bent to fit your roof. Has 14" of copper grounding wire attached. The rod has a touch of silver paint on it at the bottom. I think that the material is glass. But I can't be 100% sure. There are a couple of rust stains on the outside. No cracks or fractures. Some dark specks here and there. The ball has been cleaned. Up for sale an antique zinc horse weathervane lightening rod with glass ball. This is old-I am not an expert but I believe it is turn of the century era. The horse is zinc.The lightening rod is copper and other parts of the pole appear to be cast iron. This is mounted on a wood frame and stands 56 inches tall, and has 3 legs that support it on the wooden base(or for mounting) The horse measures 9 by 7 1/2 inches,the glass ball is 5 inches round,the vertical part with the arrow is 21 inches across,the wooden base it sits on is 20 1/2 inches by 7 1/4 inches and 1 1/2 inches high. The horse has been braised and there is some touch up paint on it,the glass ball has been cleaned on the outside but not the inside, there are rubber bands around the inner rims of the glass ball which was as found. You are bidding on a beautiful amethyist colored lightening rod ball. It is a very pretty purple and really shines in the sun. There are chips and one small crack on both collars but for 100 years old that would be expected. They would not show at all when the copper end caps would be applied before instulation. The ball measures 5" from collar to collar. The collar its self measures 1 3/8" across. This is great for replacement or collector.
