The originally outside canvas covering and interior paper have been removed to show the beauty of the pine wood. The wood was sanded and refinished with stain and multiple coats of sealer. for your consideration A beautifully refinished Victorian dome top Steamer Trunk ca.1890 leather handles and lid lift are new. The inside has been stripped. Cleaned, sanded, sealed and covered with a high end period correct fabric design, The outside has been brushed cleaned. The slats sanded and sealed with a satin finish for protection and preservation as well. all hardware and latches are in working order. It is in great shape for over 120 years old. Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock With Key and Interior Tray Here is a lovely refinished dome top or arch top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's to around 1900. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 24 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 14 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 14 inches. We removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. The trunk appears t be made up of poplar base wood which are rough cut boards. These boards show the saw blade marks from the saw mill since they were not planed down to a smooth texture. The outer slat boards appear to be oak or ash. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve the wood. This one was missing the lock when we ... morereceived it and we have given it an older replacement lock which is signed. It says, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. This replacement lock comes with the proper key and does work correctly. A lot of doll collectors and collectors of coins and Civil War items have purchased this smaller sized trunk to store their collectible items inside. If you have a teddy bear or doll collection, you can display those items in and on the trunk with the lid in the open position. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. We do obtain all of our leather products for these trunks from an Amish man in an Amish community near our home here in Pennsylvania. The front latches are original and do work properly and they have been remounted with screws. There has been a couple of areas of metal patchwork done on this trunk. One area is at the top left side of the lid. A piece of metal was missing and we have put in a piece to cover this area. A close up picture of this area has been shown. Gorgeous Extra Fancy Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Double Latch Style Lock. Working Key, Interior Compartment Area, and an Interior Tray Here is a rare find since this trunk is exceptionally loaded with fancy hardware and it comes with the beautiful double latch lock. This beautiful dome top should date back to the late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 24 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 1/2 inches. This wonderful trunk is made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards, and the dome top is made of early ply. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve it and make it look ... morenice. There are some typical older nicks and dings in various places along with some stress cracks. These distress marks are quite common and typical on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. The base wood has a tannish brown color while the outer slat boards have a more medium or walnut brown color. This trunk maker must have spent who knows how many hours applying all of the fancy metal hardware to this trunk. We counted how many metal hardware parts are on this trunk which include the lock, latches, and wheels. It came up to over 90 pieces. That is just incredible. We have not had a trunk this fancy in quite a long time. We wish we could find fancy trunks like this more often, but they are hard to come by. Some of the fancy metal rosettes that are on the top slat boards have been pressed flat over the years of being shipped on railroads and having other trunks and items stacked on top of them. They are all there, just we wanted to say that some are flat and some are still domed. It's not a big deal, we just thought we should mention it so there won't be any surprises. Beautiful Refinished Dome Top Steamer Trunk with Working Lock and key and full Interior My husband and I have refinished over 170 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is absolutely beautiful very nice decorative refinished dome top hump back steamer trunk from the late 1800's. The particular d imensions for this are 28" length. 16 1/2" width and 18 1/2" height. To begin the restoration of this trunk we began ... moreby taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. On the outside and on the inside. After all the sanding was done, we then applied coats of Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the wood a nice shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We also found on the metal a patented date of March 16. 1872. We then attached 2 new Amish made black leather hand l es to this beautiful trunk. With this particular trunk we installed a new lock with 2 working keys. The lid has the original picture and original label. The label has written on in"Baer's Evansville Trunk Factory" Evansville. Fabulous Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key and Interior Tray This beautiful trunk sure has taken on quite a transformation from the time that we have purchased it. It was very rustic and in dire need of help. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 inches. From floor to top is approximately 25 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This lovely dome top top should date back to the mid to late 1800's and it appears to be made up of pine and poplar base wood with oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has a nice reddish brown color to it. There are some typical older distress marks on the wooden surfaces. These markings include older nicks and dings along with some slight ... moreareas of discoloration. The majority of the trunks that we refinish have similar distress marks. This one comes with the original working lock. We have found a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The metal parts that make up this nice trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. This one was missing the front latches, so we have run a pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top. Instead of having the metal latches, you can use the straps to secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled in addition to the working lock. As far as repairs go, there were two pieces of hardware missing where the outer slat boards meet. So we have replaced these with some home made pieces that look somewhat similar. There was also a section of an outer slat board missing, and we replaced it with a piece of slat board from a parts trunk. I am listing a Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Civil War Era Trunk. This trunk is probably from the mid 1870's period. As some of the hardware is marked 1872. T he trunk's dimensions are from left to right across the front- 26 inches. From floor to top is approximately 19 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 inches. I have removed all of the original paper that covered this trunk, inside and out. The trunk is made entirely up of pine wood. The wood has been finished with three coats of clear lacquer. The wood is in great shape with a couple of stress cracks in various places which are quite common on trunks this old. This one comes with the original tray. The front latches are also original and do work. The side handles are really unique and quite rare to see anymore. They are made of wood and are usually broke. These ... morere in excellent shape. Going to the interior, I have finished the interior wood with two coats of clear lacquer. The interior is in pretty good condition considering how old this trunk is. The exterior bottom underneath the trunk has normal wear. It also has the four factory original rollers and slats. Antique Refinished Dome Top Trunk, Wood, Nice Present for XMAS!!
Up for auction is this very nice. Rustic looking, dome top trunk with a size of 30x17x19(LxWxH) that has just been refinished. It has been stripped to the bare wood on the inside and out and is a very clean trunk. The one thing I would point out is that there is a crack in the top as show that is just due to age and adds some old time charm to it. Fancy Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key and Hidden Interior Compartment Area Here is a beautiful refinished dome top trunk from the late 1800's that we have just finished up on. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 1/2 inches. From floor to top is approximately 21 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 1/2 inches. We removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards, and the dome top looks like early birch ply. We have prepared and finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve it and make it nice. The wood is in decent condition considering the age of this trunk, and you can see some saw blade marks on the ... moreboards at the front of the trunk which are from the rough cut lumber which was used on this trunk back in the 1800's. This trunk maker put a nice amount of fancy hardware on this dome top. All of the metal parts which are on this trunk are not brass. We have brush painted the metal parts by hand in black and gold leaf. There are some patent dates on the fancy cap metal near the dome. It is hard to make out the exact date, although we have shown a close up picture of this patent date. We have given this trunk a lock off of a parts trunk since it was missing the lock when we purchased it. The lock we installed does work properly and comes with the appropriate key. The front latches are original on this trunk and do work ok since the springs are in good shape. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, this trunk has a nice feature which is the hidden compartment are on the underside of the dome. We have recreated the door that drops down to show this area. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/2 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This lovely hump back chest is made up of poplar and pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are typical older distress marks on the wood which include older scratches and nicks in various places, although the chest is very sturdy and can be sat upon the top if you want to do so. This trunk maker put a lot of nice metal hardware on this trunk. The metal parts that make up this trunk ... moreare not brass, therefore we have hand painted the metal in black and gold leaf. This trunk also comes with the original patent dated working lock. This is the first time out of well over a thousand trunks that we have had this style of lock. It is patent dated on the key hole cover which is the only brass part on this trunk that we have semi polished. It reads, Pat Mar 69& Apr 77" There is a close up picture showing these dates. We did match up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. You can lock your belongings inside this beautiful trunk away from others. The front latches are original cast iron nice ones that still work since the springs are still intact. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, we have made a tray or insert for this trunk. It rests at the top edge where the original one once did. The interior wood and tray have received two coats of polyurethane. We did leave the fancy paper border in place on the underside of the dome and we added two nice trunk maker's style pictures to the underside of the dome. Considering how old this trunk is, the interior is in pretty good condition.

Charming Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles and Interior Tray We are selling a nice refinished dome top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's. This trunk is made up of poplar and pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. This one has some typical older nicks and dings in various places. These character marks are present on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. There were some small holes in the wood where either knots were missing or something, and we did fill these holes in. There were several on the front and several on the back, ... morenot on the top or on the sides. These boards were free of any holes. This particular trunk doesn't have hardly any stress cracks in the wood. Usually these trunks do, but this one is good. There is no lock mechanism, although there is a brass square lock plate at the front. The top part of the lock that swings down into the lock plate appears to be original, but there is no engagement mechanism behind this brass lock plate which someone may have put on this trunk some time ago. The lock plate is the only brass on this trunk. We have brush painted the remaining metal by hand in black and gold leaf. The front two latches are cast iron and they do work ok since the springs are still there. A nice pair of leather straps with roller buckles has been installed onto this trunk. In addition to the front latches, they help secure the top to it's base when buckled. They are functional, not just for show. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. The exterior was cleaned, brushed& sealed for protection as well as conservation, I leave the cracks& dents to preserve the character that the trunk has ocumulated over the many years. New high end fabric for the interior was put on after stripping, cleaning, brushing, drying and sealing the interior. some say fabric was not used for the interior originally, but I have seen it on occasions and always in much better shape then wall paper, so for personal preference and long lasting I choose fabric for most of my projects. Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Trunk with Working Lock and key. Here at Trunks-n-treasures we take pride in the trunks that we refinish. We have refinished hundreds of trunks. Each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very nice, clean refinished dome top Civil War trunk. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside and out. Once we removed the paper from this gorgeous trunk we sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil to it as a finish. After much research we have found that tung oil works best because it replenishes the wood and prevents it from drying out so quickly. On this trunk are two new Amish leather handles. The latches on this beautiful trunk ... morealso work to keep the lid secure. Also on the lid there is trunk stay to keep the lid open when wanted. The lock for this trunk comes with two working keys. This trunk has a lot of fancy metal hardware that has also been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. There is also the original tray to fit the inside of this trunk so you have two levels of storage. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied tung oil to the bottom to give it a new refinished look along with painting the metal black. The size of this trunk is perfect for its use as a hope chest to keep all your precious belongings in. This beautiful trunk would look very nice placed at the foot of a bed. It could also be used by a college student. The size of this trunk measures 26"length x 14" width x 17" height. The two of us love refinishing trunks bringing back the beauty into a piece from the past. This trunk is no exception to the rule. The hardware, original tray and being a Civil War trunk itself, make this one a thing of beauty in anyone's home.

completely refinished dome top steamer trunk from the 1890s the exterior has been stripped. Sanded, cleaned, brushed, dried and sealed with a quality satin finish. I have installed a pair of double ply leather handles made by the local Amish here in central Pennsylvania. The interior has been stripped. Sanded, brushed clean, dried and sealed with a quality finish before covering it with fabric. I also added a border and a period correct copy of a lithograph often found inside trunks. Some say fabric was never used but I have seen it on rare occasions and always in much better shape then your typical wall paper. so for personal preference and long lasting I usually use fabric to finish my projects. I always stay in the period when replacing a part. Nails, rivets, style of handles etc, I will however use modern fasteners if they are not visible ... moreon the finished project. this particular trunk measurements are 34" side to side. 19" back to front, 23" high. it does not have a key and will not lock by accident. Antique Trunk Refinished 1860's Dome Top - Great size for blankets
Up for auction today we have available a lovely refinished antique Dome Top steamer trunk. Dating to the Ca. 1860’s. Trunks from this era were either covered in paper, leather, or a thin canvas. This one was originally paper covered. The old paper was removed to highlight the nice wood underneath. This trunk is a beauty. The size is impressive, a perfect trunk for storing winter blankets, pillows, or other seasonal items. It measures 32 x 17.5 x 20 high. The wood was sanded smooth and then treated with a few coats of Early American Stain mixed with Tung Oil. Then a few coats of clear shellac. The original handles are long gone and have been replaced with strong leather straps with the original steel endcaps. This trunk has the metal edging along front and sides. And also wonderful metal strapping highlighted by brass buttons. The front lock ... moremechanism is original, but no key. Trunks from this era had leather straps to keep them closed. This trunk does not have any front hinges. A leather lid stay will be inserted this week. I wish this trunk could talk. The top retains the original tan paper. In relatively good shape, the bottom was stained and torn and we removed what was left. The bottom inside of the trunk is stripped of the paper and has been left as is, au natural. Happy to send additional photos. As with any item over 100 years old. There are character dings and scrapes– the trunk is not new and shows wear. Sometimes the wood underneath has been stained, but this just adds more character to an antique piece over 100 years old. Please look at all photos– this one is a looker and will be a nice conversation piece for your home. Wood is extremely smooth. Many hours of work go into transforming a trunk, but it is a labor of love and the end result is amazing. With a weight of approximately 30 pounds. Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key. Interior Compartment Area, and Original Tray With Lids and Pictures Here is an absolutely beautiful dome top steamer trunk or hump back chest from the late 1800's. There are twelve pictures above for you to view and some of them are two in one. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 1/2 inches. We have removed some of the metal from between the outer slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This beautiful trunk is made up of poplar base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it. There are some typical distress marks in various places on the wood. ... moreThese include older nicks and dings along with some stress cracks. The majority of all trunks have these similar antique markings which have accumulated over the trunk's long journey or existence. This one has the nice vertical outer slat boards along with horizontal slat boards. The trunk maker did a nice job of putting fancy cap metal on these slat boards. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass. So we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. A nice feature on this trunk is that it comes with the original patent dated working lock. We have matched up a key that does work in this lock. The key hole cover is patented, Mar 69& Apr 71" We are not always able to match up keys so that the trunk locks work, but in this case we have. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. The handle cap metal is cast iron with cute little perforated stars and triangles on them. Some of the slat board cap metal is also patent dated. It is hard to make it out clearly, but it looks like patented 16 of 80, referring to possible March 16 of 1880 because we have had similar hardware

Antique Dome Top Wood Trunk Dated 1882- Refinished
Beautiful wood and metal dome top trunk is dated 1882 on brass front plate. Measures 29" tall at center hump; sides are 24" tall; 34" left to right; 22" front to back; this is a really large trunk. Totally refinished with 2 coats of stain and top coat of poly for easy cleaning. Stain gives the metal a brassy look. Center plate is brass. Inside has new wallpaper; left side of top is wood compartment that opens in center. Right has small wood box that opens. Tray was stripped and left bare wood. Two buckles on front- used to have leather straps that were cut off and left that way- just seemed to get in the way. New leather handles on sides. Original rollers on bottom, Normal flaws in wood that you can see in photos and don't hurt the looks one darn bit. Truly a lovely antique trunk, perfect for keepsake or blanket chest ... moreat end of a bed.
