This is a wonderful old piece- I believe it to be about 1920 It has 2 handkerchief drawers on the top. There are 2 drawers side by side and below those. 2 large drawers. The drawer pulls are wood. There grooves in the 2 small drawers and in the bottom drawers. On the sides of the chest. There are grooves again, nice detail. When it is upside down the bottom is the bottom of the last drawer. Only one side of the center drawer is dovetailed, it was easier and cheaper to make that way. The salesman had the one corner as an example to show his customers. Condition: Really very good. There are no splits in the outside wood. A couple of the drawers have wood ... moresplits(inside) The corner of the back right facing leg was broken off. But it looks like someone shaped it. Antique Scottish Folk Art miniature chest of drawers box circa 1860
A box. Made to look like a Scottish full sized chest of drawers, with columns down the front. The kind of chest of drawers that used to be called a"Scotch chest" The drawers don't open. The top lifts up to reveal a plain box. Very much a one off. Made perhaps as a present and very much in the Folk Art tradition. Each part is homemade- you can see the whittle marks on the feet and even the handles have been made for this piece. Brass hinges and lock plate were bought. The rest is all individual. Approximately 27cm x 21.6cm across the top. Height- 24cm. A pleasing size. Condtion- It has at some point had a bad bash to the base. Which has knocked one of the feet off and it has been glued on again. It is old, old glue and could be done again much better with modern glues and not show. At the same time, you can see in the photo, ... morea crack appeared in the base at the back. The sides have been decorated with a shaped overlay. On one side three pieces are missing, on the other two. I would say this could easily be fixed without too much trouble and also could be ignored quite easily! The hinge works well and closes and opens and the front, the decorative part has all its knobs and drawers etc. The starting price reflects the damage and it is still a really fun thing. The top and base appear to be a marriage with the top being older then the base. The drawer fronts have a pronounced Tiger Maple and the color of the chest is that honey golden brown that is most sought after. The top appears to be a period piece from the early 1800s. The base appears to be more custom made which might be made 50 years ago, it is hard to tell. From looking at the front and sides you would never tell it was a marriage but when you open up ... morethe drawers on the base you can tell they dont have the same age as the top. Due to the size of this piece it either needs to be picked up here on Cape Cod or it must be shipped freight at the cost of the purchaser. Fine English Chippendale Mahogany Kneehole Desk c. 1740-60 Originality preserved throughout in the hardware and feet- Only the desk is being offered in this listing. The chair shown is offered elsewhere in our collection Item# 110105PII25 This is a remarkably preserved English Chippendale Period Kneehole Desk. Circa 1740-50. It is crafted of well figured solid single boards of Mahogany on the top and sides- there is no veneer on this desk, just solid boards of full grain mahogany. A simply molded edge runs the perimeter of the top, each corner scalloped. Each drawer is hand dovetailed front and back, with thin oak frame construction and thin oak drawer bottoms- all drawers are fully original and lack any adjustments and restorations to the secondary construction. Glowing hand forged brass hardware ... moreadorns each drawer. Appearing to have never been removed from the piece. Inside each drawer, as well as the tiny door in the kneehole area, silver metal locks are secured and functional. Each lock appears to be original, each uniquely cut on the right hand corner for all small drawers- it would appear the craftsman was presented with the challenge of making the lock of his choice fit the small space in conjunction with the pull hardware, and overcame this but cutting the corners of each lock. Hand made screws are visible throughout the lock hardware. While we cannot say for certain if the key is original, it is of the period, hand made and very similar in metal color to that of the locks. Each drawer is lip-molded and slides flawlessly in and out of the desk. Just below the top drawer is a secret drawer compartment. Appearing to be part of the frame design, but actually pulls outward smoothly as an extra hand dovetailed drawer. Offered for bids is an early 19th century Sheraton chest of drawers measuring 42 ½” high& 40” wide. Top measures 40 ½” wide& is 19 ¾“ deep with an appropriate rear over hang. Four graduated drawers with matching flame veneered fronts. I suspect this might be walnut but may also be a brown mahogany. Bought out of Reading PA. All drawers are dovetailed& beaded. The drawers runners are worn but run smoothly. There is some small chipping to the beading. One of the balls of the right front foot has a chip. Retains its locks. Brasses are replacements. Here is a fabulous antique American early 19th century Chippendale style footed pine blanket chest or trunk with drawers below. This delightful old trunk is 48 inches long by 21 1/2 inches front to back and 27 1/2 inches tall. The top chest is internally 44 1/2 inches long by 18 1/4 inches front to back by 15 inches deep. With a small lidded compartment 18 1/4 inches long by 5 inches wide by 4 inches deep as shown. The two lower drawers are hand dovetailed as shown in close ups and measure 20 1/4 inches wide by 16 1/2 inches front to back by 4 inches deep. Again, as stated under condition, I've included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the design, quality, construction and condition of this great antique blanket chest. As far as provenance, my consignor has owned the trunk for a number of years and remembers ... moreonly that it was acquired through an estate sale. Specifically, this is what he told me was his recollection: The story I was told is that a woman named Bessie Hicks bought the trunk while visiting Muncie Valley PA in the 1950's after WWII. She brought it back to Atlanta GA where she lived. When her estate was broken up it made it's way to Miami and then to Charleston. He added. It appears to have some minor repairs around the feet. Also some sign of blue paint under the bottom. The lock is very fascinating and secured with rose head nails. Lock and key work nicely. That's about all I remember about it. Anyway. It's appearance is consistent with early 1800's Pennsylvania work in the Chippendale style so I chose to report this information. It is certainly a lovely antique blanket chest in very nice condition. This sweet bit of Americana measures 20” tall x 17” wide x 9” deep and boast 4 molded drawers with dovetailed construction(front; square nail back) and thick hand chamfered drawer bottoms. The chest has a stepped back rectangular top which sits above a large beaded frieze panel. Flanked on each side by a smaller beaded panel. Beneath is a single deep drawer flanked on the left by two short drawers and on the right by a single deep drawer with a faux two drawer front. This row of drawers is above three graduated long drawers. Each of the chest’s drawers has turned knobs, brass escutcheons and their original locks. Although we do not have a key for the chest, the buyer can easily have a locksmith make a new key. The entire bank of drawers is flanked by elegant spiral reeded pilasters. It has a nice form and it dates to the 19th century- the turned knobs look like 1860s. But there are old wire nails so maybe 1880s. The drawers are nicely dovetailed. Note the interesting case with the bottom drawer; a lock installation was started but never finished, and I believe this was absolutely original to the piece when constructed. The piece measures 10 3/4 inches tall and 10 3/8 inches wide across the top. The dresser is in good antique condition. The old finish looks original. As shown in the pictures. Original finish with wear. Replacement handles. The chest may have originally had single drop pulls and as there is a single hole space under the present handles. AMAZING RARE Antique Salesman Sample Chest of Drawers AAFA Old Furniture BEST
I don't usually list that many items on Ebay in the summer because it's too busy. But. When I find stuff that I know the Ebay community will go wild for, I list it. And I have 4 such lots up right now so be sure to check them out for some great American folk art pieces. This auction is for a stunning antique salesman sample chest of drawers. It's got just about everything going for it in both a folky and country way. Definitely one of the best of I've seen or had the pleasure to sell. It measures approx. 9" tall to the chest top. With the addition of a 2" splashboard. Approx. 10" wide and 6" deep. FRESH, FRESH, FRESH from a Northern NH estate and quite likely NH made. The cut out base is just awesome! Country elegance with folky charm. 3 drawers, with the top 2 being slightly graduated in size over the ... morebottom drawer. Original finish and just the way you'd like to find a piece like this. And the drawer pulls are incredible! Definitely original to the piece. Definitely brass hardware with what I think is inset sculpted and painted tin encased in a clear cover. Not quite sure if the cover over the insets is a thin piece of glass or not. Nice square-head nails all around, including the drawer sides. The splashboard is definitely original to the piece, but it has been reattached at some point as evident by different nails(not recently though) Wonderful early backboard, although I do believe there are a couple backboard pieces missing. Don't believe it's been cut down at all because the height of the feet is proportionate to the height of the cut outs on the base. There are 2 early screws on the backside of the front cut out and a couple small cracks. This is not visible when the piece is sitting and not certain whether the cracks and screws occured during making or after. Piece is solid as ever, great patina, just the right amount of dust on the edge of the inset panels on each side, stunning! The three moulded frieze drawers above a deep drawer and three long drawers, the carved terminals with pilasters. Measurements: Height: 39 inches. Width: 46 inches, Depth: 20 inches. Date: Second half 19th century. This chest of drawers is in nice condition. The underside of the base may show ghosting from former feet if these attachments originally existed. This piece shares many of the characteristics found in British and American items of this category from this period of manufacture and it is not possible to verify the origin as British. The wood is difficult to verify from the images. Beautiful Eastlake chest of drawers I found in an estate sale. I am not sure what type of wood it is-maybe walnut? It measures 58"H(back piece) 50 1/2" H(front) x 34"W x 17"D. It has 6 drawers. With the two bottom drawers slightly larger. Drawer faces have a burled veneer and each one has a lock-the drawers are unlocked and all open-there is no key. The pulls are carved wood-I am not certain if they are original to the piece. Pin and cove dovetails join the front and sides of drawers. Overall it is in good shape with minor imperfections usually seen in antiques such as nicks, dents, scratches consistent with age and use. This chest was originally grain painted but was in such poor condition that it had to be removed. The mirror is not the original mirror to it but we found a nice antique pine one from approximately the same period that matches beautifully. It still retains the old tarnished glass. The color of this chest is beautiful. The aged pine is actually a much richer color than shows in the pictures. The entire piece is in excellent condition. We acquired the piece from a rural estate in Maine. A great find as these chests are getting harder ... moreand harder to find. Dimensions: The chest of drawers measures 38 3/4" wide.
