Primitive Vintage Antique Weather Vane Rooster From the estate of a local antique collector. This is a nice Rooster Weather Vane. Nice decorative rooster, made from copper that has developed a nice aged green patina. He is standing on an arrow and there is a pole that extends downward to attach it to a pole. He is in good vintage condition, the feather on the arrow has separated from the shaft about 3/4 of the length, but it still remains attached. This is a wonderful vintage weathervane of a sulky with rider. Trotting horse. It is all copper and brass with great original patina. This F o lk Art weather vane dates to the 19th century. Copper forms are soldered together and the figures are hollow. This is a very large piece. The measurements are 31"W x 16.5"H. One wheel is missing a spoke and two spokes are loose on one end. I can see no other areas that need repair. This has been in a private collection for over 20 years. I do not know the original area that it came from. We had it appraised 10 years ago And the value was $10.000. It is artfully cut from sheet copper and is at least 19th century, though the rooster is similar to 18th century ones. This is a beautiful old weathervane. The horse. Directional arrows, and decorative balls appear to be copper. The 3 demensional items are hollow. The horizontal bar under the horse appears to be some other material possibly brass. The verticle rod(black) seems to be steel or iron. I do not know the age, I aquired it at auction in the 80's and thought to add it to a cupola on the barn. This many years later it's still in the garage. This is a very large item and will come disassembled. I'm not sure that I have it assembled correctly but it seems to work. Overall assembled demensions are appx. 45" tall and 31" wide. The Horse is almost 28" wide nose to tail and appx. 13 1/2" tall. There are two decorative balls. Antique ORIGINAL copper/iron/milk glass WHITE ball LIGHTENING ROD complete
This is one of the original lightening rods that was on the roof of the old farm that we bought in MI. The farm was built in 1912. The tripod used to attach it to the peak of the roof is made of iron. The tripod legs straddle the peak and are attached with screws. The pointed post is made of copper and has a lovely. Aged patina. The glass ball is made of white milkglass. I do not see any markings of any kind on this ball. The total thing stands 5 feet 5" tall with the tripod going straight down. The ball is about 4" in diameter. The heavy metal ground wire went from one lightening rod to the next and finally down the corner of the house and was securely anchored in the ground several inches with a long metal stake. This item will be shipped in two seperate boxes. The glass ball will be shipped seperately and insured. Due to the ... morelength of the rod. It will be classified as a large and irregular package. Large Antique Copper Horse Weathervane Running Race Cast Metal Zinc Weather Vane
This is a really nice antique copper running horse weathervane with a solid cast metal( lead/zinc)head. Fine Patina is evidence of years in the weather. No idea of age. This beautiful piece was taken from a barn roof in PA. Found at a local estate. The man having the sale said as a boy his family bought a farm and this horse weather vane was on the barn. He said they lived there for 20 years and when they moved his father took it with them. The horse does not appear to have been cleaned or polished and shows the work of nature. I did wipe it down. The horse's head is made of zinc/lead I'm told and the body is hand formed from heavy copper and hot lead soldered together into this fine looking horse. The piece is 17" from top of the ear to the top of the pipe, The pipe is 33" long and weighs over 8 pounds. Nice detail in proper ... morehorse anatomy with muscles and veins showing. Head, eyes and mouth are so realistic. This piece is as good as I have seen and in marvelous condition with no cracks, dents or other distractions. Antique Tall 60" Copper Lightning Rod with Milk White Electra Ball Globe
This is an old and very tall lightning rod with a very attractive milk white color globe with"Electra" printed on it in raised letters. The tall pointed rod has a point at the top and is non-magnetic. I believe it is copper. The frame work is magnetic. The frame extends out at the bottom with 3 feet measuring about 18" apart. The white globe is a bit unique having the word"Electra" printed on it. Each end of the globe has some rough edges or chips which is not unusual for these globes. It looks very good on the rod. These lightning rods and globes make very nice outdoor or yard decorations and would even be a very unusual and interesting indoor accent.

It will need to be reattached to the pole. I do not know what the head is made from but it looks like brass(just not positive) and I do not know how old it is but it looks very old. This is a very charming Weather Vane featuring a Piglet which I bought in New Hampshire years ago. West of Nashua, near Milford Circle. It also served originally as a lightning rod. I removed the bottom end of the vertical supporting rod which had the remnants of the cables attached and placed the wooden block to give the rod its original height. The tripod support and the arrow are iron. The Piglet. Balls and top spike are all gilded copper. The piglet and top spike seem to have a mustard colored undercoat, which many of these old vanes have. When the gilding begins to wear, this undercoat helps to make it less apparent from a distance. This Weather Vane measures ... more28 inches tall and 20 1/4 inches wide. The tripod support is 11 1/2 inches tall. The arrow, 20 1/4 inches long. The Piglet himself is 9 inches long from his snout to his curly tail and 5 1/4 inches tall. The balls are 3 3/4 inches and 2 1/2 inches in diameter respectively. The spike at the top rises 6 1/4 inches from the small ball. Much of the gilding is worn away and the vertical rod has a great coat of verdigris. This is a great Weather Vane which I acquired on Charles Street in Boston. At the foot of Beacon Hill. These Grasshopper Weather Vanes are popular in Massachusetts because of the famous one atop Fanueil Hall. The main difference between this one and the one on Fanueil Hall is that this one does not have the spike going through his body. Which looks a little more comfortable to me. But this one does have the green glass eyes. The gilded grasshopper on Fanueil hall was created by Deacon Shem Drowne in 1742. Gilded with gold leaf. ANTIQUE TWISTED SPIRAL IRON LIGHTNING ROD COPPER FINIAL TOP KRETZER 52" TALL
This lightning rod is very old- all of the iron parts are rusty and the copper? finial has great green patina. A strong magnet does not stick to the finial. The twisted iron is one solid piece. Not wires twisted together. It measures 52 1/2" tall, has a 3 legged base, and the legs can probably be spread to make it stand on its own. The twisted rod moves freely up and down in the base guides. The finial is marked KRETZER ST. LOUIS- see photo 4. Please see the other items I have listed. This great very old lightning rod is made of a hollow copper tube that is about 55" long. It moves freely in the iron holder so you could probably lift it up to make it taller. A nice vintage"medium" size barn cupola from a barn roof in rural Syracuse. Nebraska. Measures 46 1/2" square and about 12 foot tall. Is attached and stands on four 4x4 wood lumbers. Some rusted out spots near crown, underneith, could be primed and stopped. About 10 bullet holes in total. The weathervane is present and removeable. Cast iron& copper weathervane. ANTIQUE c.1900 CAST IRON and COPPER WEATHER VANE ARROW 28 1/2" LENGTH Great old cast iron weather vane directional arrow. Figural arrow has a center double loop where it can be placed on a lightening rod or pole. The opposing end of the arrow is thick copper and was made so an animal or figure could be mounted to it. The cast iron arrow and copper rod are riveted together in the center. This appears to be all original and is all very old but solid and free of cracks or damage. Some typical pitting in the cast iron as shown. The overall length is 28 1/2" With the arrow portion measuring about 16 inches long and the copper rod portion measuring about 12 1/2 inches long. Up for consideration is this copper hollow body Rooster weathervane. Nice condition overall. There are hacksaw cuts where the two brass rods intersect, It looks like someone was trying to remove it and didn't know what they were doing. This doesn't affect the stability of the weathervane it is still solid. Everything else is as it should be. Rooster comes with the stand in the pictures. Vintage Weathervane Antique lightning rod Ball 21" Country Decor Farm Copper
For your consideration I have two copper lightening rods. They measure 21" tall. They do feature quite a bit of patina from years of being out in the elements but could be cleaned up nicely. The mounting brackets look as though they have been painted silver at some point. They both feature two rings with screws to hold the lightening ball in place. One goes on top and the other on the bottom of the ball. I am including a ball with each rod. One is a very pretty Easter purple color and the other is white. The balls are not cracked throughout but do exhibit some chips around the top and bottom rims as most all balls do. The rest of the ball is great condition. I do not have caps that go around the top and bottom rims of the balls. You do not need them but if you would like they can be purchased fairly inexpensive on Ebay. I can give no information as to the origin of this item but I can say that it is certainly old and hand-made by a craftsman. It has been used for its intended purpose for a long period of time. Which raises the possibility that it was hand-made to order i.e. unique or only made in one area by one man. Because it's old anyway and the weathering aged it further. It is not possible to say how old it is. It could well be antique. It certainly isn't an artificially aged reproduction. Although the item is light. It must be packed in a very large cardboard box.
