$38.00 Shipping Condition: Used Location: Raleigh, United States A recent estate sale purchase. A small child's size travel/ steamer trunk complete with a tray and a key. This trunk measures approximately 22" ... morelong X 14" wide X 15 1/2" high and it has two hinges in back that hold the lid securely to the base. There used to be sturdy leather handles on each side of the trunk but they are no longer intact, these can be purchased inexpensively on-line and they're fairly easy to replace. The corner protectors and hardware appear to be brass plated steel. There are two hasp type closures, one on each side of the lock and the lock needs to be bent just a little to close it securely. We tried the key and the locking mechanism seems to work properly but we didn't want to damage anything so it will arrive open with the key tucked in an envelope safely inside. The inside of the trunk is wood and there should be wood beneath the black material covering the outside(it is non-magnetic and we don't think it's metal) This little trunk is in very good condition and once it's restored it should be a beauty- perfect for your antique doll collection or as a gift for a very special grandchild. Up for sale is this beautiful refinished antique flat top steamer trunk/victorian pirate chest with tray. It measures 28 1/2" long by 18" wide and 11 1/2" tall. The original canvas that wrapped this trunk has been removed and the wood was sanded. Stained then sealed with of spar urethane. The interior has been redone with a newer fabric liner at some point in this trunk's history- it has some wear and blemishes but overall it is in very good condition. Up for consideration is a rare. Restored, antique wall trunk. It has a working lock& key. It has dated hinges that read"Dec 22 1891" It has been cleaned well inside and out. A new covering was put inside to resemble the old, so no musty smell. All original hardware and wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish. New leather handles were put on. Last year. April-June, I made a lot of eBayers very happy! I held a big sale of antique paintings and other items(over 100! from a large London mansion. Enthusiastic buyers won LOTS of wonderful family heirlooms for very little(see my 100% feedback! and came to pick them up from the house(a few minutes walk from London's Oxford Circus) I'd intended to move out and spent the rest of the year abroad. Storage Chest/Trunk/Box"A grand old chest! ... moreFor years this has been a magical dressing up box! It's full of lots of antique costumes and accessories. Younger relations head straight for it when they visit! But it would be good as a blanket box or general storage. It's very tall and has a huge amount of space. It looks a bit more impressive than many similar items. Having some grand trimmings, almost armorial. The carvings on the front are very imposing and clearly of some age. This type of carving often surrounded a coat of arms, which may have been removed in years gone by. It also has some lovely brass lion's feet(which really need shining up…they'll look really good when polished! We believe the front of the chest is much old than the rest. It's not uncommon to have wooden furniture rebuilt over the years. Often when they suffer from woodworm or general wear. One of the four rosettes on the front isn't there(I've only just noticed this, after all these years! It's dark wood, so you don't really notice. You would have to look hard to find a better restored origianl Genny Lind stagecoach trunk. This mid 1800s trunk has had a great restoration including new leather straps and buckles on the outside. Lovely quilted interior. And beatiful restoration of the tooled leather covering. And it does not smell! On the interior it still sports the wood restraining flap that would allow you to fill that side of the trunk and then close it without everything falling out. See the last 2 photos Petite size approximately 20" long. 13.5" wide and 9" deep. A kind and knowledgeable ebayer just added this info. the actual name for one of these is a valise. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side ... morelocking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. This is a very clean large oak trunk that has a variety of uses such as a blanket chest. Toy chest, or wonderful coffee table. It is made of solid oak with the original finish that has a nice patina and is finished on all sides including the back. The inside of the trunk has been painted red but can be stripped back to the natural oak. The trunk is 48" wide, 22" deep, and 24 1/2" tall. There is a piano hinge that opens the top. There is a lock but I do not have the key. The trunk was originally on rollers. One of the blocks under the trunk that holds the roller insert is damaged but is easily repairable if rollers are prefered. Email with any questions. This antique steamer trunk has no identifying information; however. We believe it is from the 1800's. The trunk measures approximately 38" long x 26" high x 22.5" wide when closed. It is a fabric-covered chest with wooden ribbing and what would appear to be additional leather stripping. It also has metal corners and hardware. Our trunk is in need of repair and restoration. The lock is missing and the hinges in the back of the trunk require attention. The top must be held open so it does not fall back. The inside of the trunk shows signs of age and wear. It is in"as found" condition. The deerskin is rough and the pieces of leather that hang off the sides are rather dry. Side handles appear to be original and in good condition. Measures 24" long. 12" deep and 10" tall. The lock, which I am not sure is original or not, has been repaired at some point in the past(repairs look pretty crude and old. Original sticker is still inside, as is the paper covering. Wood seems solid and all intact but does show signs of what appear to be termite damage. Antique Primitive Pine Lift Top Trunk Painted Green Tool Chest Country Folk
Antique green lift top chest. Classic primitive or country style. It looks like it was made from pine and has a basic six-panel construction. The top is made from three framed boards with a raised piece on top. Iron side handles and a molded base. Paint looks original or at least very old. Interior has sections for holding things in the front and stepped sides to hold boxes up. There are also strips of gathered leather attached to the top that may have been for tools and a cut-out"L" shape that may have held a carpenter's square. So it seems likely that this trunk was probably a tool chest at some point. Trunk probably dates from the late 19th or early 20th century. Overall. This piece is in good condition, however there is obvious wear as you can see from the pictures. There also appears to be some water damage to the finish ... moreand some water stains inside the trunk lid. The H hinges and side handles both show sign of rust, but are in solid condition and sturdy. The chest stands is 18" tall and measures 34.5" long and 22" wide. I nice Victorian Silver Chest. These were used in the victorian households to store the family silver and prevent the servants abscondoing with the valuable itmes. Would have been green compartment lined when first made. The richer you were. The more of these chests you had. Each would have a name plate plus the number of the chest. e.g. Earl John Smith 1 of 5 etc. It has large iron swing up type handles to each side. Working lock and key.bonus not many old chests still have a key. Also a hasp& loop has been added later in its long life for more locking options. Here for sale is an old iron lock with its original working key suitable to use on an old pine blanket box or trunk. It measures 3 1/2 inches wide. 2 1/2 inches high and 3/4 inch depth. The measurement from the top face to the centre of the key is 1 1/4 inch. The key measures 2 5/8 inches long. The main body of the lock housing the workings is 7/16 inch thick. The top face is 3/4 inch. Please note. The receiver isn't the original to the lock. It fits fine but when locked it doesn't lock tight. Nice Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Working Lock and Key
Charming Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key Here is a lovely refinished steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 13 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This nice trunk consists of poplar base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with some typical older distress marks which include nicks and dings mostly concentrated on to the outer slat boards. And a couple of hairline stress cracks in the base wood. This one comes with the original working lock. We have matched up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The front two latches are original and do work properly since the ... moresprings are intact. The metal parts which make up this trunk are not brass and have there been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing. Someone had drilled small holes in the wood and run rope through these holes to make handles for this trunk. They were rather lousy looking, so we have removed those handles and installed a pair of nice Amish made black leather stitched handles where these rope ones were. These handles are sturdy. Going to the interior, we have removed the paper lining which was worn out looking and finished the wood with two coats of polyurethane. A nice trunk maker's style picture of a Victorian woman standing in a boat on a pond has been added to the underside of the top. The exterior bottom has normal wear and we have finished the bottom to make it overall cleaner. This trunk could be used as a low coffee table, tv/stereo stand, and/or a storage chest anywhere in your home where storage space is needed. Up for auction is a refinished antique doll trunk or salesman sample chest. This little trunk measures 15inches long by 8 inches deep and 8 inches high. There was no tray with this trunk when found but one was built for it out of oak and poplar. The trunk itself is made from pine and is metal bound. All the metal has been hand burnished but enough of the patina has been left to preserve the antique character of the piece. The lock is an Eagle lock and the latches function but are no longer spring loaded. The trunk has been refinished in a golden oak stain with multiple coats of sealer both inside and out. We are pleased to offer this very nice. BEAUTIFUL antique VICTORIAN steamer trunk. The chest has a domed top and is wood and metal construction. It features ornate iron hardware and trim and leather side handles. This wonderful trunk has an UNTOUCHED, ORIGINAL INTERIOR. The interior is lined in decoupage fashion. It has 4 compartments that are each defined with a different decoupaged portrait. They lift up(the top compartment lid lowers) for storage but they are not the"lift out" removable type of replacement trays. They are constructed of a heavy cardboard type material and have hooked closing mechanisms. The largest compartment is the lower compartment. It is accessible by lifting the sides of the center compartment. The trunk is very nice and is very much in original condition with very little restoration. The leather handles ... moremay have been replaced at some point as they have an aged patina but are in excellent condition. The trunk has the original locks but has no key. There are two clasp closures with locks on the front with a large center lock. There are 4 small wheels on the bottom of the trunk for easy transport. They are in good working condition. My great grandfather, was the owner of this trunk, I don't know where he got it from, but he was very wealthy, and he owned, a huge mansion, up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, witch is very rare, as 99.9% of folks are poor up there, as there is nothing but trees, and water, he had left the estate to my grandfather, about 40 years ago my grandfather never went back to the estate, he let it become basically codemed or he let it go, and it became un-livable, when my grandfather died the estate went to me I didn't know about it so I went and checked out, and I found this trunk hidden between his closet, and a little trap door in what might have been my great grandfathers master bedroom. EARLY 1800'S ANTIQUE AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE BLANKET CHEST TRUNK DRAWERS GRAB LOCK
Here is a fabulous antique American early 19th century Chippendale style footed pine blanket chest or trunk with drawers below. This delightful old trunk is 48 inches long by 21 1/2 inches front to back and 27 1/2 inches tall. The top chest is internally 44 1/2 inches long by 18 1/4 inches front to back by 15 inches deep. With a small lidded compartment 18 1/4 inches long by 5 inches wide by 4 inches deep as shown. The two lower drawers are hand dovetailed as shown in close ups and measure 20 1/4 inches wide by 16 1/2 inches front to back by 4 inches deep. Again, as stated under condition, I've included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the design, quality, construction and condition of this great antique blanket chest. As far as provenance, my consignor has owned the trunk for a number of years and remembers ... moreonly that it was acquired through an estate sale. Specifically, this is what he told me was his recollection: The story I was told is that a woman named Bessie Hicks bought the trunk while visiting Muncie Valley PA in the 1950's after WWII. She brought it back to Atlanta GA where she lived. When her estate was broken up it made it's way to Miami and then to Charleston. He added. It appears to have some minor repairs around the feet. Also some sign of blue paint under the bottom. The lock is very fascinating and secured with rose head nails. Lock and key work nicely. That's about all I remember about it. Anyway. It's appearance is consistent with early 1800's Pennsylvania work in the Chippendale style so I chose to report this information. It is certainly a lovely antique blanket chest in very nice condition. Up for consideration is a very nice victorian trunk. It has a working lock and key. The left lattch. Or hasp, is missing but still closes securely with lock. All hardware and wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish for protection. New leather handles were put on. It is a nice trunk that is sturdy. The trunk measures about 25" long by 12" tall by 8" deep and is in as found uncleaned condition. The leather on the outside of the trunk is in overall good shape. It does have some wear like scratches and tears. The inside of the trunk has it's original cloth liner and tag seen in picture 9. The lid of the trunk and the leather handle are a little loose but overall this is a nice solid antique piece that would look great in your home. Refinished Double Lock Dome Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key
Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Two Working Locks and Key Here is the first double lock refinished dome top trunk that we have had in a very long time. This trunk dates back to the late 1800's. Here are the dimensions: from left to right across the front is 36 1/2 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. This large dome top is made up of pine base wood, ash or oak outer slat boards, and the dome is made up of early ply. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. This one has a lot of distress marks which include areas on the wood that are darker in color, probably due to moisture in various places on this trunk. Also there are stress cracks running across the top wood that makes up the dome. There are typical nicks and dings in various ... moreplaces. This particular trunk was a little more weathered when we received it than most of the trunks we refinish. So we did make it as nice as we could, but do want to mention some of the characteristics. This one comes with the two factory original working locks. We have matched up a key that does work in each of the locks. You can lock your personal belongings away from others if you want to. The metal parts making up this trunk are not brass, so we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps and the handle caps have an embossed star on them. You could store a lot of belongings inside this trunk since it is pretty large. It may look nice at the foot of the bed in the bedroom or anywhere in your house where storage space is needed. If you are one who enjoys collecting rustic more primitive style antiques, then this one might be just the right one for you since it is more rustic than most trunks that we refinish. Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key, and Interior Tray Here is a really nice complete refinished steamer trunk from the late 1800's to around 1900. This beautiful trunk consists of poplar base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. Considering the age of this trunk. The wood is in very nice condition. It does have some typical stress cracks which are found in most all of the trunks that we refinish Here are the trunk's di mensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 21 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. We are calling this a flat top trunk, although there is a very slight factory arch to the top which may be noticeable in the side view picture. ... moreThis one has a wonderful combination of metal, wood, and leather, no plastic parts to break. This one comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Yale& Towne Mfg Co Stamford Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does work properly with this lock. In addition to this nice original lock, it also has some nice original fancy front latches that do work properly since the springs are still intact. This lovely trunk originally had leather straps with buckles. They were eroded away when we received this trunk, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones were. We actually have run this pair of straps under the original strap hold downs or keepers that we have repainted. Since the metal on this trunk is not brass, we have brush painted it by hand in black and gold leaf. The edge banding is made up of some type of leather or pressed composition. We did fill it where some of it was missing and painted it black also. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. They are sturdy. Antique Primitive Pine Sugar Chest with Bracket Feet Lock Americana Trunk Brown
This lovely primitive sugar chest came out of an old house here in Savannah. Georgia. It was found lined with a layer of newspaper dating from 1839-1840, so we are guessing this piece dates to the early part of the 1800s. The actual chest appears to be made from pine, which as far as we can tell is a bit unusual for a sugar chest. The box sides/top are all made from one slab of wood, so it is made from old large timber. The chest has one large deep compartment and then a small drawer in the bottom, each with a lock. We do not have the keys to the locks. It has low, simple bracket feet. The hardware is old, but most likely not the original, as the chest came with one of the original knobs loose inside. The knobs that are on there now are similar to the original. It was also painted with a brown wash at some point. Gorgeous Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key, and Interior Tray Here is one of the nicest. Fanciest trunks that we have refinished so far this year. This flat top steamer trunk should date back to the late 1800's to around 1900 or so. This trunk maker did a nice job of running lots of slat boards and metal banding on this trunk. This beautiful trunk consists of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. The wood has lots of older character marks or distress marks which have accumulated mostly onto the outer slat boards. There are also some typical stress cracks in the base wood, although the trunk is still sturdy. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have older distress marks and stress cracks. Here are the ... moretrunk's di mensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 23 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. A unique feature on this trunk that you don't often find are the five slat boards running across the top. Most trunks have three or four, but not very often d you get five. It also has the three metal bands running up the front and across the top, and you usually don't have that many bands of metal on most trunks. Due to the slat boards and metal banding, it gives this beautiful trunk sixteen wooden sections to the top and sixteen wooden sections at the front of the trunk also. This beautiful trunk comes with the original working lock. We have matched up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The metal parts that make up this fancy trunk are not brass. Since they are not brass, we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk maker used a lot of nice hardware when making this trunk. Immigrant Dome Top Country Pine Treasure Chest Trunk. Hand crafted about 1830 in northern Europe. This immigrant trunk or"treasure chest" has original wrought iron mounts. The wonderful old finish is very well preserved. Waxed and polished. Only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm patina. Carved wooden pegs and hand planing marks show expert country workmanship. The lock is incomplete and there is a leather strap to pull open. Corners have hand cut dovetail joinery on this furniture. Antique & Primitive Six Board Footed Painted Pine Blanket Chest, Box, Trunk 47"
I get most of my items at estate auctions and sell them in an"as found" condition. I do no repairs. Alterations and very little cleaning. This is done in the belief that most buyers prefer to receive them as original as possible. Because the items I sell can come from anywhere. I can't guarantee they all come from smoke free environments. DESCRIPTION: The existing color is mustard but there are several colors underneath. Including a coat of blue and another coat of salmon. One of those two is probably the original color of the chest. It is not a dove-tailed chest but it's tight and sound. It does have damage on one of the corners of the lid(see photos) and there is some evidence that some gouges on the lid were filled at one time, and not an expert job. The piece is old enough that the the hand plane marks can be felt on ... morethe interior. The piece probably is no more recent than the mid 1800's and could be older. It is about 47" in length, 16" in width and about 17 1/4" in height. It comes straight from a farm barn near Odessa, Missouri. The metal handles are original but the hinges are not and do not match. Please do not ask for this item to be shipped. It is for local pick up only. No exceptions. A handling charge of $1.50 is included in the domestic shipping costs. This is 19th century hand dovetailed domed top pine chest with old gray paint and traces of red. The name"Louis Becher" is painted on the side and top. The chest is a really nice medium size(39.5"W. 17"H, 18"D) it could be placed on a large table or on the floor. The exterior shows prolonged signs of use, but the interior is extremely clean. The hardware is all original but there is a missing clasp on the lock. It is very solid, the hinges work well, and it is otherwise completely functional. The satiny finish is excellent with warm antique patina. We have applied several coats of finish to seal the interior. But when the lid is opened, there is a noticeable mothball scent, not noticeable when closed. This would be a very safe place to store woolens, protecting them from moths. Nice Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Working Lock & Key & Tray
Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk with Working Lock. 2 Keys and Tray My husband and I have refinished over 100 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is a very nice refinished flat top steamer t runk. The particular d iminsions for this are 30 1/4" length. 18 1/2" width and 20 1/2" heig ht. We refinished this particular trunk by taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. Inside and out. A fter t his. We applied 2 layers of tung oil to the trunk and tr ay. After lots of research on rest oration. We have found that it is better to finish old wood ... morewith tung oil as it helps preserve the wood from drying and cracking from the inside out. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We then attached 2 new Amish made brow n leather hand l es. We also put on a new lock with 2 working keys. Th is trunk also ha s the two original latches newly painted and working properly.Attached to the lid of this trunk is the original stay so it will remain opened when wanted. Included with this trunk is the original tray. Newly sanded and finished. Working the way down to the b ottom there are 4 original metal casters that are securely in p lace and working properly. Antique Oak Chest or Trunk c. 1800's Country Folk Primitives
Wonderful antique oak trunk or chest. Six-sided construction with molding around the bottom. Overhanging top has a raised panel inside a frame made using mortise and tenon joints. A small smooth notch has been carved into the front to allow the user to lower the lid without crushing their fingers. Sturdy wrap-around hinges hold the lid in place and interior corner-braces help keep the trunk solid. A more recent looking chain is also attached between the trunk body and lid. This piece has a ton of character and has definitely been put to use during its time. Probably dates from the mid to late 1800's Although it has some obvious wear. Including dents and dings, paint marks and other cosmetic damage, the piece is in very good condition. The entire trunk stands 17.5" tall. It is 19 1/4" wide and 31.5" long.
