Antique Architectural Salvage Pediment Hand Carved and Inlaid Floral Design
Description: Here is a gorgeous pediment that came from the estate of a well-to-do Hartford CT woman who loved to collect beautiful items. This item came from an upstairs storage closet with other antiques and architectural elements that the woman had bought in 1983 when she was planning on building a summer house on Long Island Sound. The invoice showed that she paid $450 for it over 30 years ago. Supposedly it had been carved and inlaid by a well known Connecticut carver but her niece could not remember who for sure. It appears to be carved from two layers of solid mahogany and then two pieces at either end appear to have been nicely inlaid with boxwood in a floral pattern. The carvings are deep and wonderfully done and you can even still see the chisel marks on the top edge which would not have been seen. There are all the usual marks. ... moreNicks and stuff you would expect to see on a piece of this age as well as a nibble from each end of the bottom. The color and glow of the patina is just first rate as you can tell from looking at my photos. This is a an exceptional carved oak pediment or panel with a large carved Griffin or Lion face center medallion. It measures aprox. 37 1/2" wide x 8 1/2" high x 3" deep. Overall it is in good condition. No missing carvings but there are three breaks in the carvings, just to the right of his chin, on the far right and another on the right side as well, we provided pictures that show these areas. ANTIQUE WALNUT VICTORIAN SPOON CARVED VINTAGE FRETWORK CORNICE FURNITURE PEDIMENT A lovely. Antique, Eastlake Victorian furniture pediment that appears to be made out of walnut. It has spoon carved decoration with has traces of gold still inside. There are spools that decorated each side and woodwork that looks like a crown. This lovely furniture pediment measures approximately 48" long x 6 1/4" high on each end and about 6 1/2" in the middle. There is about a 3" slope from the top flat part, down to the front of the spools. It appears that the blocks, in the middle next to the spools, were added recently. One of the points of the crown, in the middle, is missing and the scallop on one end is missing the top. A couple of other scallops have some damage to the wood that is not really that noticeable. There is a metal ring ... moreon each side for hanging, two screws in the back that were probably used to attach it to a piece of furniture, and the front has two nails in the wood, where someone must have hung something. One of the spools has a broken part that was probably done when the new block was added(not noticeable) Despite the flaws, this is still a very beautiful, antique, Victorian Cornice that will look great being hung and enjoyed. Beautifully detailed antique carved wood pediment- measuring 42" wide and 12" at the highest point in the center. It is about 4" deep- has ledge on bottom back. It has a basket with fruit decoration in the middle. Piece has a gilded finish that has worn off in places- Workmanship is magnificent- details exquisite-There are some places in the front where it has been glued and probably some small missing pieces of wood- but nothing really noticeable considering the age of the piece. Some without- Here is a gorgeous and i mean gorgeous eastlake wall pocket. has really nice carvings and a gorgeous added bird& leaf on the front.i see no damage or issues what so ever aside from one tiny little chip on the bottom.very hard to notice, other than that, no holes, dings, scratches, cracks, hairlines, nothing. it is in tip top shape.has its original chains and brackets aswell but as youll notice it needs a couple new little tiny nails put in on the side where they use to go, otherwise you can just leave the chains the way they are. if you notice the carvings on this piece are very nicely done.on alot of later eastlake pieces the carvings became sort of shotty and ... morenot symetrical and just sort of poorly done and rushed.i believe this wall pocket to be a very early eastlake piece judging by the extra nice carvings and attention to symetrical detail, and the very old hardware.this one was done beautifully top to bottom. i meant to dust it before i took pictures but i forgot so any blemishes are just particles of dust, this piece really is in amazing condition. Description This is a great piece that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It was originally part of a piece of furniture. It is made of walnut and is unpainted. There is a wonderful carved crest along the top. There are heavy raised molding at the top and along the bottom. The body has carvings in the middle and an applied raised panel at the left side. There was a panel on the right side also but it is missing. It measures 39.5 inches wide by 23 tall. It is 4 inches deep. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning but should clean up nicely. The carved piece in the middle is faced with burled walnut veneer. The veneer is coming up and some is missing. Please look at the pictures carefully. It is 1 7/8" deep there at the center, but measuring from the very back of the piece, to the farthest sticking out part of the piece(the top, which angles out) it measures 4" deep there. It weighs 1 3/4 lbs and is in excellent solid and sturdy condition structurally. The patina is dark and yummy! You can see rustic wear to the wood and finish all over- very minor- scratches, scrapes,teenie holes, nicks, dings, light spots, dark spots and finish wear down to the wood(see photos 4&7 where you can see lighter, small finish wear spots) You can see two nails at the top. And some holes at the back from when it was mounted originally. The back gives some indiaction of its old life too, as you can see that it's lighter at the bottom than at the top. The white spot at the back is an old dealer tag, it will come off. It's dustydustydusty and needs a good cleaning, I have not cleaned or messed with the as found patina in any way. Wooden Eagle Pediments Pair of 2 Antique Architectural Federal Era Hand Carved
For your Early American Eagle collection or architectural restoration project we have a Pair of Two Wooden Eagle Pediments Antique Architectural Federal Era Birds that are Hand Carved in the early 1800's. These were recently mounted on iron stands for display. Using the original holes which go through from the top to the bottom in two places on each pair to host the iron rods that they are now fixed onto. Fairly substantial in size, each of these facing eagles actually measures 10" high x 13 1/2" wide x 1 1/4" deep(thick) and are ready for display on these stands that bring them up to 13" tall. Together they weigh 8 pounds 3.5 ounces including the iron stand. They show their age from alligatored varnish and a deepened patina to the wood. These look like they may have been painted over at one time. And have been dry ... morescraped to remove the paint. They have age cracks to the wood, including one that goes straight through the neck of one bird, yet have retained their aesthetic historic value and decorative appeal. The wood these are carved from is a very dense, hard wood. Hand carved eagle figures are still considered the epitome of collectible American folk art pieces and are generally associated with the Federal style era in architectural design. Which is a period that ranges from 1780 to 1830, appearing most commonly on frames, furniture, building ornamentation, and as motifs throughout the making of textiles and American advertising ephemera. To continue, Federal-style architecture is the name for the classic architecture built in North America between c. 1780 and 1830. And particularly from 1785 to 1815. This style shares its name with its era, the Federal Period. The name Federal style is also used in association with furniture design in the United States of the same time period. They are made of solid wood and have openwork in the center with applied leaves on the sides. Each lovely crest measures approximately 14 1/2" across x 9 1/4" high(not including the dowels on the bottom) x 1 3/16" thick. The wood appears to have the original patina with some scratches to the surface finish. One of them(see photo) is missing the rosette in the middle and the wood is separating at the top and needs to be glued down(see photo) There must have been something else on the very top, because there is a dowel hole on the top of each one(see photo) Everything else looks great on these wonderful old pediments! VINTAGE(circa 1890-1900) GOTHIC STYLE CHANCEL SCREEN: This is a beautifully carved section of a heavy oak Church chancel screen. The piece is made up of a wide base rail. With a vertical section at each end, that has been joined with a dentiled top sub-rail section. The Gothic style shaping and carving is of high quality. It is very easy to see that the chancel screen was built with great care and high levels of workmanship(please note that the joints between the top section and vertical balustrade end sections did not originally match.These joints were purposely left with shims) Each side of the piece is similar in construction and finish. HAND CARVED ARCHED ARABESQUE OAK PANEL: A beautifully hand carved.Arched oak panel fragment. The carving of the arabesque design motif on the oak fragment is masterful. There is a raised beveled panel in the center of the scrolled field. The arched panel has been mounted on a white marble fragment base that features a segment of a hand carved acanthus leaf in relief. The oak has a hand rubbed oil finish. This piece utilizes two architectural fragments to produce an interesting decorative element. The dimensions of the piece is as follows: 14 1/2" l. x 14" ht. x 3" d. VINTAGE HAND CARVED EASTLAKE DESIGN CREST: Very nicely carved Eastlake crest. The two pieces of this mahogany crest were found two years apart. Unfortunately one small section of the bottom of the shield could not be found. The overall design of the crest is a very good example of Eastlake style carving with gold enamel inlay to highlight the carved areas. The two original finials are in place.The center panel on the shield is of a lighter color than the main body of the shield. Which is mahogany in color. This crest is a'survivor' give a new home on a wall in your home. The crest is approx. 13" tall x 12 1/2" wide x 2 1/4" deep.

Lovely Antique Eastlake Era Carved Wood Pediment GREAT Over Door Well. I am back from a monster shopping trip to the World’s Longest Yard Sale– we shop Ohio every year and then stop at some of my favorite spots in Indiana to buy from. Spent 2 whole days taking photos and still not done– I have a LOT and I’ll be listing for weeks. There’s something for everyone- primitive antiques, ephemera, military, railroad, industrial, farm finds– you name it, I have it and it’s all unique– you’ll want to keep checking, as I will list every day. Enjoy! Here is a beautiful antique late 1800s carved wood pediment for you. It's one of the simpler ones that I have seen(which is what I love about it! with 6 vertical carved wood lines that separate the 5 down facing triangle points of wood and that have a round carved notch at the top. And a raised double ... moreround piece at the very top center of the pediment that reinforces the round carving. I don't know if this was a furniture or an architectural piece, but it was once attached to something for sure- the bottom left and right are rough from where it was attached. I see no other indication of how it was attached- no mounting holes now open, no marks at the back- whatever it used to be, it appears to have only been attached at the left and right undersides. It's not a cut there either, the roughness is uneven as if they were broken off, but you can't tell that from the front, only when looking at them closely from the underside. The piece is solid wood- I won't know what kind but the patina is darkdarkdark. It measures 33" at its widest, and 11 1/2" tall. The wood on the sides is 15 1/6" thick and it is hefty, weighing just over 4 1/4 lbs. I'm concerned about the shipping to some locations, as it will have an oversize balloon rate, being over 84" packed girth plus height. Lovely Antique Eastlake Spoon-Carved Pediment Walnut Golden Tones 24"
This is a lovely Eastlake carved antique pediment. Great spoon-carved detail throughout and especially each end. It measures 24" long. I think the wood might be walnut. Pretty golden grain fully finished and lovely. It's a bit lower at the very bottom in the center back. Small piece of wood gone though fully finished, but you don't notice from the front.
