Chest has very nice carved feet front and back with bowed top as well as bowed front. It measures approx 22" tall including swivel mirror. 12 1/4" wide at feet, and 9" deep at feet and has 2 small drawers at top and l larger drawer at bottom. Mirror is in fine condition. The small drawers each measure approx 5 3/8" x 4" x 2 1/2" deep. The one on the right has a smaller pull than the others but it appears to have been put on at the same time. Bottom drawer measures approx 9 3/8" x 8" x 3 3/8" deep. Bottom drawer has original lock(no key) and is lined with a silver color paper which appears to be very old. Antique Miniature Doll Chest with Hankie Drawers Salesman Sample 12” High x 12” Wide x 6 ½“ Deep*It is darker than it looks in the photos. The finish has a darkened aged look– beautiful. This is a wonderful old piece- I believe it to be about 1920 It has 2 handkerchief drawers on the top. There are 2 drawers side by side and below those. 2 large drawers. The drawer pulls are wood. There grooves in the 2 small drawers and in the bottom drawers. On the sides of the chest. There are grooves again, nice detail. When it is upside down the bottom is the bottom of the last drawer. Only one side of the center drawer is dovetailed, it was easier and cheaper to make that way. The salesman had the one corner as an example to show his customers. Condition: Really very good. There are no splits in the outside wood. A couple of the drawers have wood ... moresplits(inside) The corner of the back right facing leg was broken off. But it looks like someone shaped it. It is not noticeable unless you compare the sides. There is a stain in one drawer see photo. All of the drawers slide easily. It needs a good cleaning. Look at all the photos and ask questions. AMAZING 1800S SALESMAN SAMPLE DOMED STEAMER TRUNK WITH ORIGINAL INSERTS- SCARCE!
THIS AMAZING VICTORIAN-ERA SALESMAN SAMPLE WAS DISCOVERED IN A LOCAL ESTATE. IT IS- BY ALL ACCOUNTS- A COMPLETE PERIOD EMBOSSED-TIN DOME STEAMER TRUNK. HOWEVER. IT IS FAR MORE THAN THAT. It represents an era long lost, and is both a piece of americana and a scarce early advertising/ display piece. It dates to the 1870s-1880s, and was made to scale, featuring every detail of a full-scale steamer trunk in a more compact package. A travelling salesman couldn't possibly drag a full-scale trunk from house-call to house-call, so a VERY SMALL NUMBER of these pieces were manufactured. They allowed the salesman to showcase the many features of the steamer trunk, and were constructed in the same fashion, using the same materials. A salesman sampler such as this was a far more effective bargaining tool than a pamphlet full of 2-dimensional photographs. ... moreIt allowed the customer to pick up and inspect the trunk, lift the lid, and get a better feel of what the full-sized trunk had to offer. it was meant to be taken on the road, and samplers were put through far more wear than the actual trunks they helped sell. VERY FEW STILL EXIST. One salesman sample was given to the salesman, and was shown and stored hundreds of times- selling hundreds of trunks- until it was too road-weary to showcase and retired/ thrown away. this particular example is in amazing condition considering age and usage. It has all of the inserts. Which still have bright colors and original lithography, as well as interior leather pulls. The original lining is complete and well preserved. The trunk has retained the entire outer, embossed-tin skin[a basket-weave pattern] and every wooden strap is present. The tin panels are free of rust or jags[curling/ sharp points] The top/ lid opens and closes smoothly, and the original hinges operate as they did 140-150 years ago. Most of the factory black hardware paint is intact. The bumpers/ corner brackets are all present, and every rivet/ nail is intact. It is quite rare to find such a complete example. It is not p

antique doll trunk salesman sample Victorian chest circa 1890
Up for auction is a refinished antique doll trunk or salesman sample chest. This little trunk measures 15inches long by 8 inches deep and 8 inches high. There was no tray with this trunk when found but one was built for it out of oak and poplar. The trunk itself is made from pine and is metal bound. All the metal has been hand burnished but enough of the patina has been left to preserve the antique character of the piece. The lock is an Eagle lock and the latches function but are no longer spring loaded. The trunk has been refinished in a golden oak stain with multiple coats of sealer both inside and out. Up for this no reserve listing is an antique doll truck. Or ladies accessory. I'd guess this piece dating from mid to late 1800s. It measures 12" height, 14" wide, and 9"deep. It's covering is leather with a fish scale diamond pattern, and accented with tin or copper embossing on the front and lid. There is also a metal handle on each side and a lockable clasp(lock not included) on the front. All the hardware, including the hinges, is in excellent shape with great patina. The tin accents are peeling off in the corners. There are nicks to the corners and edges, and done wood damage around the clasp(see photos) The lining is in excellent shape! I don't usually list that many items on Ebay in the summer because it's too busy. But. When I find stuff that I know the Ebay community will go wild for, I list it. And I have 4 such lots up right now so be sure to check them out for some great American folk art pieces. This auction is for a stunning antique salesman sample chest of drawers. It's got just about everything going for it in both a folky and country way. Definitely one of the best of I've seen or had the pleasure to sell. It measures approx. 9" tall to the chest top. With the addition of a 2" splashboard. Approx. 10" wide and 6" deep. FRESH, FRESH, FRESH from a Northern NH estate and quite likely NH made. The cut out base is just awesome! Country elegance with folky charm. 3 drawers, with the top 2 being slightly graduated in size over the ... morebottom drawer. Original finish and just the way you'd like to find a piece like this. And the drawer pulls are incredible! Definitely original to the piece. Definitely brass hardware with what I think is inset sculpted and painted tin encased in a clear cover. Not quite sure if the cover over the insets is a thin piece of glass or not. Nice square-head nails all around, including the drawer sides. The splashboard is definitely original to the piece, but it has been reattached at some point as evident by different nails(not recently though) Wonderful early backboard, although I do believe there are a couple backboard pieces missing. Don't believe it's been cut down at all because the height of the feet is proportionate to the height of the cut outs on the base. There are 2 early screws on the backside of the front cut out and a couple small cracks. This is not visible when the piece is sitting and not certain whether the cracks and screws occured during making or after. Piece is solid as ever, great patina, just the right amount of dust on the edge of the inset panels on each side, stunning! Here is a fabulous 1800s"leather" Salesman sample(or doll) trunk in marvelous condition considering it is well over 100 years old. As the pictures show. It measures 18" wide X 11" tall X 11" deep and weighs 10 lbs. It is squeaky clean wood construction inside and out and has been cherished in our smokefree, petfree household for nearly 20 years. This is a fabulous Antique 1800's Salesman's Sample Wooden Trunk with an alligator embossed gold painted front and brown painted dome top. The sides and back are floral embossed and the sides are green while the back is white. It has black painted metal strips. Hinges, and metal lock( Lock does not lock) There are wooden strips on the top, front, and sides. The bottom is plain wood. The interior is paper lined. It measures 16" wide and 9" tall in the front and back while the sides due to the dome, are 10.5" tall in the center and 9" wide. The handles on the sides have been broken off. It is in really great condition for being over 100 years old( hope I look so good! It has age and desirable patina! Shipping includes insurance.

Robert Burr 1800's Anitque Salesman Sample Trunk, Or Document Box
For your consideration is this exceptional Robert Burr salesman sample or document box. This appears to be a very rare example. And I believe few have survived to this day. Especially in this condition. Robert Burr was a very important and prolific trunk maker based in Boston, Massachusetts during the 1800's. In my research I found that his shop was initially located at# 3 Hanover street, in Boston's North End. Also the neighborhood of Paul Revere} I can imagine that some of his customers were part of the elite Bostonians of the time. Around 1850 the shop moved to Tremont Street in Boston. Mr. Burr died in 1855 and the shop was taken over by G. Roulstone, and he created his own label. This would mean this piece is a pre-1855 example. It has the original Robert Burr label still attached inside the lid. See photo} It measures 14"L ... morex 8 3/4"W x 6"H. It has a wonderful patina. And rich fabric lining in incredible condition. There is a small stain on the fabric strap that is attached to the body and lid. The outside of the box is adorned with brass studs in a very appealing pattern. The lock and latch are intact. The latch works but the key is missing. There are some dings associated with use, as well as a few stains. The bottom is a little stained and there is some peeling. PLEASE NOTE: Most of the pictures were taken inside with artificial lighting. They do make the wood appear somewhat lighter than it is. But they also reveal the signs of use with more detail. The best picture. Taken without flash or additional lighting} is the first one of it laying on a beige carpet. I am not an antique expert but try to describe my listings with detail. Beautifully crafted I believe the wood is mahogany and it is finished in a medium brown red tone. Somewhat cherry in color. Appears to have all original brass pulls and hardware including the tiny key that works. Three same sized drawers are 10 1/2 x 6 inches in depth by 3 inches in height. Overall size of chest is 15 inches tall by 15 inches wide by 9 inches in depth. As to condition I note a few minor dings and dents but all edges are smooth. The sky blue velvet inserts obviously were added later and this was used as a jewelry box present day. I note the wood cracked back panel as photos show but piece is structurely sound. could have been a salesman sample piece. Nice antique miniature steamer trunk in what appears to be good condition except that the top is only connected to the bottom by the strap on inside. The paper appears to be torn in many places and has some missing in spots. The trunk doesn't appear to have had a tray. There doesn't seem to be any runners for a tray to sit on nor does it appear that they are missing. There is no key to the trunk. Trunk is approx. 10" wide by 7 1/2" tall by 7" deep. We have this old large Hat Trunk fresh out of a Detroit Michigan Woodlawn Estate to offer in as found condition. This was a trunk for a traveling hat sales person. The hat boxes slide inside and you can carry several hats in one case. The trunk is 36 1/2" in total height and is a oval shape measuring 14" one way and 16" the other way. THE HINGE IN THE BACK IS BROKEN. IT HAS THE LEATHER HANDLES ON BOTH SIDES, BOTH ARE RIPPED. THE BRASS CLASPS THAT HOLD THE HANDLES ARE REALLY COOL LOOKING,THEY LOOK LIKE SCALES. Since I am not an expert on furniture styles) It is an older piece of unknown age with dove tail joints that are hand made. An eBayer has just informed me that it is American made and dates to an era between1835 and 1840 and be based his information looking at the dovetails and the bottom of this piece. This piece might have been a salesman. Tradesman or apprentice sample and it might have also been a sample of a future wedding furniture gift. In older times it was a custom to give to the newly weds a miniature of a piece of furniture that was being ... moreordered as a present. Or it might be a jewelry box or a doll chest of drawers furniture. The wood in the piece is a combination of solid and veneered mahogany depending on where it is. The backing is plywood and it seems it was added later. The top and the bottom are serpentine shaped as well as the hidden drawer. There are 3 drawers of decreasing size + 2 smaller drawers above which there is a hidden drawer. The hidden drawer has a book matched front. Beneath the hidden drawer and the two small drawers and the next drawer there are three dust boards. There isn't a dust board between the two last drawers. Although the rails are there. The bottoms of the drawers are carved in order to make them better fitting and sliding. The key holes are brass and at one time there must have been a lock on the bottom drawer since there are the remnants of the carvings to fit the lock. The eight tiny pulls are 3/8" in diameter x 1/2" deep. It has 4 bun feet. The total height of this chest is 12 3/4" tall x 12 7/8" wide and 6 1/4" deep. Lovely Antique,Primitive Salesman Sample Trunk Or Child's Trunk Late 1800's
I have up for sale today a lovely old trunk. I do not know if it is a salesman sample or a child's trunk. It measures 14 inches across. 8 1/2 inches deep and 10 inches tall at the highest point. It is estimated that this trunk was made in the late 1800's or early 1900's. It's condition is pretty good considering it's age. The original leather handles,usually missing in a trunk so old, is still intact. The interior appears to be all original. Still containing the original tray, something that does not usually survive. Stamped on the tray is"S.A.MAXWELL& Co 2595. I do not have a clue what this means. The hinges are original to the chest. The lock,while missing the snap, has the original key. Probably the best feature of this chest is the lovely old primitive robin egg blue color. It is reminiscent of a day gone ... moreby. Your mind imagines where this chest has been, the hands that handled it and oh, the silent stories it holds. It is hard to describe the condition of this little trunk. The pictures really do not do it justice. The worn wood slats. The patina of the paint, the waves of the metal all contribute to the charm. Please note,as I said before, the lock does not work, even though it has it's original key. I will leave the repair of that to the new owner. Also, I have not cleaned it up, this is the condition it was in when it came out of the attic. I have not set a reserve on this trunk. This is a very cool small 1/4 size steamer or travel trunk. Victorian era. The Trunk is wood trimmed(top and bottom) with metal riveted strips and a single keyed locking mechanism. NO KEY) I am not sure if this is a salesman sample or rather a box for toting elixirs, perfumes or other sweet waters etc. There are two small compartments with straps and you can see what looks like a ring from the bottom of the bottle that sat inside. It also sort of smells like perfume or something fragrant. I believe the paper is the original paper on the inside of the trunk. It has a beautiful lithograph of a woman on the inside of the lid and reads THE MC LILLEY& CO FOR THE SALE OF MILITARY AND SOCIETY GOODS COLUMBUS OHIO. This company was associated with Freemasons, Odd Fellows and other fraternity organizations, etc. so this could have been one of their ... moresales boxes. The original leather strap that was on the top is included however the leather loops broke off the top. the side is stenciled with red and says J.L. Colwell O'Neill, NEB. There were no other markings that I could find. Its really in remarkable shape with the usual wear, fading and rusting to the metal. It has GREAT patina. Measurements are 18x10.5x11 inches. Nice Vintage Sample Trunk Made By H.W. ountree& Bros. Richmond. VA This is a wonderful antique sample trunk in good condition for its age. The trunk measures almost 9” high. 12” long and 8” wide. It has a lift out tray that features a compartment with a domed lid. The bottom of the tray is made of canvas and is coming loose. It was repaired at some point but needs more work. There is a vintage sticker inside the lid that describes the trunk and has the makers’ name. The lid does not have hinges. I’m not sure if it ever had them. The handles on the side are missing. Antique Toy Doll Wood Drop Leaf Table Salesman's Sample
For your consideration. I am offering an antique doll, toy or salesman's sample drop leaf table. This wonderful little piece is 13 1/4" x 12 1/2" with the leaves down x 11 1/4" tall. When the leaves are raised, it is 22 1/2" long. The top has a separation of the wood 1" inward, and a repaired corner. On the underside, new screws have been added on one hinge. One of the wood lifts has been replaced. One leaf does not rise as far as the other. There is some finish loss. It weighs 2.66 pounds. Check out my! I ship by USPS. This is a charming 19 th century flame mahogany veneered miniature American Empire chest of drawers. It measures 12 ¼” wide x 7” deep x 12” tall. It has tiny inlaid wood patterns at the top of each side to replicate carved wood. It even has a small brass lock that appears to be a working lock. Though there’s no key to test it. MINIATURE Walnut Stained Chest of Drawers with Marble Top Salesman Sample c 1900
This is a larger sized miniature chest of drawers that measures 16” wide x 8 ¾” deep x 14 ¾” high. It has four drawers and a heavy green marble inset top– note that the marble is simply inset in the top and can be removed. Though it fits perfectly(see photos of the top with and without the marble inset) The chest has fluted wood columns on the sides of the drawers with small metal Doric style capital and bases. The knobs are a turned metal. The chest sits on bun feet. This chest was probably made as a salesman sample or apprentice piece– or perhaps for a child for her dolls? The detail is amazing and it’s very well made. I’m not sure of its age. Though I would estimate sometime between 1890 and 1910. On offer is this antique child or doll-size Jenny Lind stagecoach trunk. In the classic hourglass or"loaf of bread" shape, measuring 12" x 7¼" The box looks like pine wood and is in good solid condition. The leather banding is in fair condition. But looks quite aged and crackled, with some small sections missing(see photos) The hinges are good. There is no inside tray. This style of trunk is named after Jenny Lind. This doll chest is in good condition. It has definate aged appearance and patina. There are two areas on the inside where the wood is split to the outside(one on the top and one on the inside backing) scratches and faded areas of original black decorative decor. The bottom has a couple nails sticking out. There is rusting on the decorative brass fixtures. There is some fraying of the wood in various areas and some holes that do not protrude to the outside of the box. There are handles on either side of the box. You are bidding on a Nice Antique Leather Bound/ Covered 1800's Travel Chest. This chest does need a LOT of tender loving care. It retains an amazing paper label that reads(FESSENDEN’S SADDLERY( South of the State House Concord. N.H. Coach, Gig, And Buggy Harnesses– Saddles, Trunks And Military Caps– Kept constantly on hand and for sale) This travel chest is a wooden box covered with a leather and has brass tacks holding leather strapping down on the top. Sides and ends. The locking mechanism is quite unique and definitely antique and sorry but there is NO KEY to this trunk. This little gem has had much use and needs loads of TLC, so please don’t expect perfection or anywhere near that. The trunk measures 12 inches long x 7 inches wide x 5 ¼ inches deep not counting the leather strap handle. It is in need of restoration but is a ... morevery old and unique item that would make a great antique display. Comes from an old estate barn.
