The flat base in the shape of a pointed oval is complimented by the top which has a shallow trench on the nozzle and a knob handle. Used as a funerary urn. This pot dates to the medieval Islamic period, C.1600 A.D. and it is criss-crossed with incised lines and geometric panels by way of decoration. A group of nine ancient stone objects from the Near East. Four spindle-whorls. Largest of which is 3 x 0.9 cms. Sassanian uninscribed agate seal 2 cms. Haematite conical pierced and polished pendant 1.8 cms. Stone amulet with carving and circle-and-dot engraving 2.5 cms. Very worn though tactile stamp seal, 2.2 cms, no deign is evident unless you have a lot of imagination. Bought in various auctions over the past decade, acquired in mixed collection groups. Nice lot! The weapon with robust point survives with complete tang and is of triangular form with prominent central mid-rib. A Phoenician prince who was said to be very brave. He was also credited by the ancient Greeks with introducing the original Alphabet or Phoenician alphabet- phoinikeia grammata, Phoenician letters" to the Greeks, who adapted it to form their Greek alphabet. The Phoenicians were also famed across the ancient world for their metal work. Which they traded throughout the region and with the Greeks. This is typical of the type made as an imitation by local craftsmen of the high quality imported Mycenaean vessels of similar design Middle-Late Bronze age Palestine: Circa 1500-1200 B.C.
