2 Antique 19thC ½ct Topaz Ancient Persian Magic Amulet Gemstones
Two Antique Genuine Natural Russian Half Carat Blue Topaz Faceted Ovals. ORIGIN: The Ural Mountains. Russia. 19th Century. SIZE: Length: 6mm. Width: 4mm. Depth: 3mm(thickness) WEIGHT: 0.99 carats(the pair) NOTES: Upon request we can set your gemstones as a ring. Pendant, or as earrings(click for more information) DETAIL: In the ancient world topaz came from Topazion. An Island in the Red Sea now called Zabargad. Topaz was thought to protect against evil and to the ancient Greeks and Persians, it was believed to be effective as a talisman which would protect against evil enchantments. Here are two gorgeous, sparkling pastel blue topaz semi-precious gemstones from the Ural Mountains of Russia. Gorgeous, vibrant, and vividly hued, these striking semi-precious gemstones are of very high quality and possess breathtaking luster. Both have been ... morehand faceted into sparkling, brilliant ovals, with lots of flash and depth. These two gemstones are virtually flawless, even under a 5x glass. Certainly to the eye they are nothing less than perfect, they are truly beautiful little blue gemstones. The trained eye will easily discern from the photo that the gemstones have been hand-faceted. The coarseness of the 19th century faceting is considered appealing to most gemstone collectors, and is not considered a detriment. Unlike today's computer controlled machine processes, the cut and finish of gemstones such as these is the legacy of an artisan who lived two centuries ago. Such antique hand-faceted gemstones possess much greater character and appeal than today's mass-produced machine-faceted gemstones. These gemstones have great luster and sparkle. And to the eye are completely transparent, but one cannot say with absolute certainty that they are absolutely flawless. True, any blemishes they possess are not visible to the naked eye, and even at 600% as in these photo enlargements here(or under a 5x jeweler’s loupe) there are no discernible flaws. However we hesitate to use the word“flawless” as sooner or later blemis

Ancient Luristan Bronze Finial, Sword-Knife Pommel/ Animal Form/ Persian 1000 BC
Ancient Luristan Bronze Animal Staff Finial- Pommel Circa 1500 BC- 500 BC Western Persia ~ please scroll down for more photos ~ SIZE: Length- 3.75" 9.5 cm) Height- 2.5" 6.35 cm) Width- 1.25" 3.2 cm) Weight- DESCRIPTION: Fine and rare bronze figural antiquity from the Luristan culture of Western Persia. Circa 1500 BC to 500 BC. This piece was sculpted in the form of an animal. Possibly a bull, and was probably made as a staff finial or pommel for a knife, sword, or other weapon- tool. The form is quite abstracted and stylized with four feet and a tail integrated into the body and an elongated neck with a small head and ears on either side of a pair of very lengthy horns. There is a thick cylindrical, hollow tube-like form rising from the back which has a thick lip. Cemented into this hollow tube by encrustation, are the remains ... moreof what looks to be an iron attachment rod, possibly part of the tool or knife that this piece was originally part of. The animal form is classic and very modernistic looking. Although it was made over 2,500 years ago. AGE: Circa 1500 BC to 500 BC. CONDITION: Good archeologically found condition. As shown in the photos and with the following noted: Thick green encrusted encrustation overall. No apparent losses to this finial or handle, although it was part of a tool or knife that is no longer present. This piece does not presently have a display stand but it would be worth having one made. HISTORY: This piece was purchased from an estate collection in the Point Reyes area of California several years ago. The collector obtained his collection in the late 1950s and the pieces in his collection were brought to the United States in the early 20th century. PLEASE NOTE: The low opening bid. With no reserve, is not meant to reflect upon the actual monetary value of the piece. My auctions are structured this way to encourage bidding and to allow the final auction price to be determined by the bidders. ~ please click on image for high definition photos ~ This item will be a museum qu

Ancient Persian Luristan Bronze Age Horse Bit - 1000 BC
A genuine ancient Persian Bronze Age horse bit. Dating to approximately 1000- 800 B.C. Luristan bronze working is renowned as being amongst the highest quality of all metalwork from the ancient world, this remarkable piece is a particularly attractive and well preserved example. The bronze horse-bit comprising a square-section bar with loop terminals. The cheek pieces cast in the form of abstracted horses. With long tails and reins depicted and having two loops at the top. A variety of cheek-pieces decorated Luristan horse-bits, and the composite creatures decorating this example are very characteristic of the region. This striking piece was produced by the expert bronze working society known to us as the Luristans. And would have originally formed part of the burial contents of an elite Persian warrior. These individuals often served as ... moremercenaries in the service of rulers in the lowlands of Mesopotamia. The bronze workers of Luristan excelled in producing horse decoration, perhaps not surprisingly in view of the fact that, as Assyrian reliefs make clear, cavalry was rapidly replacing chariotry as the main mobile force in most Near Eastern armies. The ancient inhabitants of mountainous Luristan were pastoralists and would have followed an annual cycle of migration between their warm low-lying winter pastures and the high cooler summer grazing grounds. Their production of these remarkable bronze artifacts for which ancient Luristan society is primarily known took place largely during the winter months. When the low lying valleys were packed with their tented encampments. The Assyrian king Sennacherib's account of a campaign in Luristan territory vividly illustrates how the land would have been full of these temporary settlements during an age redolent with violent conflict: And their settlements which were numberless. I destroyed, I devastated, I turned to ash. The houses of the steppe, namely their tents, wherein they dwelt, I set on fire" For a similar Luristan horse bit currently on display at the Bri

Originating in Cyprus. The arm fibula style spread to Assyria and Persia in the 7th century B.C. where it remained popular for over half a millennia. Custom mounted and fantastically well preserved. This wonderful artefact has a poise and presence not often encountered in small ornamented jewelry. For an inferior example currently on display at the Harvard Art Museum. Height: 1 1/2 inches. Height mounted: 2 1/4 inches. ... moreCondition: Very good. Restored at clasp(no infill) otherwise excellent and mounted on a beautiful bespoke bronze stand(as shown) Provenance: Ex.
