Ancient Bactria: Central Asian abstract bone button seals, inscription, writing
3 Ancient Bactrian bone button seals one bears writing ~~~ These are rare artifacts by nature of their fragility. Two have glued repairs and small losses. While the small one that has only writing carved into it is robust and intact. The largest and most fragile one has a beautiful abstract design like the blueprint for a temple: it measures 52 mm x 29 mm and weighs 0.4 gr. The smaller one with the writing measures 28 x 20 mm. The terra cotta beads on this necklace are from the Elamite culture and are dated 1200-1000 BC. The earth-toned beads are made of fired clay and the blue beads are made of faience paste. An elegant. Rare and well preserved ancient Luristan late Bronze Age pick axe, dating to approximately 900 BC. The axe is of classic Luristan form; with straight robust shaft and blunt edge. Cylindrical socket and rounded projection at the back. Indentations and remnants of the original wraps can be seen on the shaft, an extremely rare occurrence. Blunt ended axes such as this weapon were designed to cause depressed fractures and deep lacerations to the head. Though this piece adheres to that design, it was probably originally for ceremonial use. This striking weapon was produced by the expert bronze working society known to us as the Luristans. And would have originally formed part of the burial contents of an elite Persian warrior. These individuals often served as mercenaries in the service of rulers in the lowlands of Mesopotamia. I am offering at NO RESERVE. What appears to be an authentic Ancient Anatolian Hittite Bronze Stag With Elaborate Antlers; circa 2500- 2300 B.C. Let me start off by stating that I am treasure hunter/ picker, and in no way an expert in this area of collecting or researching. I bought this piece from an eclectic gentleman who knows lots of other collectors, and he bought it from one of them. I had no idea of what it was but I thought it would be fun to learn. I did a little research. Not too much, but then noticed the old type, probably from the 40's or 50's, on the bottom of the wood stand sharing a little info, and at the bottom it reads"The Oriental Institute" So then I started thinking that maybe I really have something here, possibly a museum piece, or a real piece of history. I used Valuemystuff.com to upload some pictures ... moreand learn the value. As I do buy and sell for a living, and they came back with the $60k-$80k. I have tried contacting educators and museum folks to try and verify if this piece is real or not, but I am striking out, as no one has got back to me. A few antique dealers have looked at it and told me that it appears that it could have been a student piece made to resemble an authentic bronze stag, but they all followed up with that they cold be wrong too. So now I am going to roll the dice and let you the buyer decide if it is the $60K-$80K true ancient Hittite Bronze Stag. I hope my photos are sufficient for you to zoom in on and see the metal for yourself and decide. Also a copy of the appraisal is included in the last picture.
