NEAR EAST BRONZE LURISTAN SPEARHEAD DATES TO BRONZE AGE
NEAR EAST BRONZE LURISTAN SPEARHEAD DATES TO BRONZE AGE F ine 12 inch bronze specimen of an Ancient Near Eastern cavalry spear head from the Bronze Age. BRONZE AGE: 4000- 3500 years ago STILL REMAINS VERY SHARP Nice Patina. Could be professionally cleaned The term LURISTAN references artifacts made by a society of semi-nomadic people that once lived in the mountainous region of Northwest Iran. Little is known of this ancient culture but the most impressive traces are that of the bronze artifacts they left behind that can be found in parts of present-day Turkey. Iran and Afghanistan. These include highly decorative equipment for their horses, ceremonial containers and numerous weapons ranging from simple utilitarian pieces on up to elaborate masterpieces of warfare. It is theorized that the Luristan bronzes were crafted by the earliest existence ... moreof the Median empire but this has never been proven as written records of the Medes have not survived. The Medes were Indo-Iranian people originally from central Asia who settled in Northwest Iran in the 9th century BC and later defeated the Assyrian empire in 614 BC. Their success is short-lived and their empire which once stretched from central Iran to the Persian Gulf and Anatolia was overrun in 550 BC by the Persians. Very Large Ancient Near East Luristan Bronze Age Battle Sword - 1000 BC
An ancient Near Eastern Luristan bronze split‘ear’ pommel sword. Dating to around 1000 BC. A formidable Bronze Age sword. The long blade with a broad mid-rib. Tapering to a point, the bifurcated pommel cast onto the hilt, itself separately cast to the blade and joined with a v-shaped section. The distinctive shape of the pommel has hollow sections which would once have contained inlays of bone or wood. The pommel is also adorned with incised decoration. At first glance this impressive sword would appear to be utilitarian weapon. Designed simply for battle. But look closer and you will see that the blacksmith has taken time to inscribe various patterns across the pommel. A care and attention that suggests this was a prized object in antiquity. Ancient Near East Bronze Age Terracotta Holy Land Pot - 3150 BC
An ancient Near Eastern Bronze Age terracotta pot. Dating to 3150– 2300 BC. The slightly upturned. Elliptical handles, plump body and short neck with everted mouth give this piece an almost figural quality that is seldom encountered with vessels of the period. The vessel has a flat base and wide body and would have been used for storing water or oil in ancient times. The pleasing effect of the contrast between red and black on the surface is in fact the result of mis-firing in antiquity. Though no doubt the ancient potter would have preferred this piece to be more uniform. To us it seems to enhance the object. Height: 7 7/8 inches. Condition: Good. Minor restoration to part of the lip. Provenance: Ex. British private collection. Acquired 1990’s. Please note: This is a genuine Bronze Age artefact. Huge Ancient Near East Luristan Bronze Age Battle Sword - 1000 BC
A magnificent example of Bronze Age weaponry: An extremely large. Genuine and powerful ancient Near Eastern bronze sword, dating to around 1000 BC. A formidable weapon. The long blade with a broad mid-rib, tapering to a point, the pommel cast together with the hilt, itself separately cast to the blade. This striking artefact was produced by the expert bronze working society known to us as the Luristans. And would have originally formed part of the burial contents of an elite Persian warrior. These individuals often served as mercenaries in the service of rulers in the lowlands of Mesopotamia. The ancient inhabitants of mountainous Luristan were pastoralists and would have followed an annual cycle of migration between their warm low-lying winter pastures and the high cooler summer grazing grounds. Their production of these remarkable bronze ... moreartefacts for which ancient Luristan society is primarily known took place largely during the winter months. When the low lying valleys were packed with their tented encampments. The Assyrian king Sennacherib's account of a campaign in Luristan territory vividly illustrates how the land would have been full of these temporary settlements during an age redolent with violent conflict: And their settlements which were numberless. I destroyed, I devastated, I turned to ash. The houses of the steppe, namely their tents, wherein they dwelt, I set on fire. A fine example of an iconic Near Eastern sword type; it is hard to find a genuine example on the market in this condition. Length: 33 inches. Condition: Generally good. Blade reattached to hilt as is invariably the case with artefacts of this type, and with associated restoration at the join. Exhibiting a beautiful dark olive patina. Provenance: Ex. British private collection. Acquired 1990's in London. Please note: This is a valuable. Highly collectable ancient weapon. This piece is offered for sale to promote our extensive inventory of antiquities and ancient coins, which you will find at the link below: Authenticity All i

A bronze amulet of a Zebu(hump back) bull from the ancient Near East. Ca. 1st Millennium BC. The amulet, with stylized features, has a fairly large suspension hole, and a relatively smooth surface with a black color finish. 1-5/8" 4.1cm) long, 1-1/4" 3.2cm) tall, and 7/16" 1.1cm) across the forelegs. Mounted and labeled on a antiqued polished wood plinth, the overall height is 2-3/4" 7cm) NOTE: Although the piece has been glued onto the mount, it can be easily removed if desired, I have used water soluble glue. The Eurasian Zebu Bulls were domesticated into modern Taurine cattle breeds around the 6th millennium BC in the Middle East. And possibly also at about the same time in the Far East. Zebus were still widespread in Europe during the time of the Roman Empire, when they were widely popular as a battle beast in Roman ... morearenas. Ancient Near East Holy Land Bronze Age Terracotta Pottery Jug - 3150 BC
An ancient Near Eastern Bronze Age pottery jug. Dating to 3150– 2300 BC. With its elegant carinated form. Rustic appearance and encrusted surface, this jug appears quintessentially ancient. Potted from a light clay, the body piriform, with a large handle reaching down from the rim to the mid-section. This evocative object dates to a period where the foundations of human civilisation were only just beginning to emerge. A time from the unimaginably distant past. Used for the pouring of water and perhaps wine, the handle fits so naturally into the hand that we can feel a moment of connection with this lost, formative period. It brings the everyday life of real people inhabiting the ancient Near East a little sharper into focus. Height: 8 inches. Condition: Very good. With restoration to section of lip and neck. With encrustations. Provenance: ... moreEx. London art market. Authenticity All items are unconditionally guaranteed to be Authentic as described.
