Antique Hindu Temple Doors - Original
These original antique Hindu temple doors hung in my grandfather's home for over fifty years. He was Oriental Rug importer. But I don't know what the country of origin is. I believe they are from India, but most of his trading was in Afghanistan. I made photographs of the back, providing a sense of their age. At some point, he attached them to the wall with modern bolts on cross members on back. They are old, and I assume must be a few hundred years old as they came off a temple two generations ago. The pair measures 28 inches wide and 68 inches tall.

Ancient Near Eastern Luristan Bronze Mace Head With Snake Decoration - 1000 BC.
A beautiful ancient Luristan Persian bronze mace-head. Dating to around 1350-1000 BC. Luristan weapons are renowned as being both highly imaginative and advanced for their period. This remarkable piece is a particularly attractive and well provenanced example, coming from one of the most prominent collections of the 20th century. The bronze mace head with cylindrical. Ridged socket and body, decorated with blunt projections, likely stylised ears of corn. Running in between the projections are a series of snakes writhing up towards the top of the weapon. The function of this rare weapon is something of an enigma. It dates to a period when iron blades had begun to replace bronze weapons, at least functionally in battle. In all likelihood this fascinating artefact was intended to be carried as a display of wealth and rank, or possibly for enacting ... moreceremonial sacrifice. This striking weapon was produced by the expert bronze working society known to us as the Luristans. And would have originally formed part of the burial contents of an elite Persian warrior. These individuals often served as mercenaries in the service of rulers in the lowlands of Mesopotamia. The ancient inhabitants of mountainous Luristan were pastoralists and would have followed an annual cycle of migration between their warm low-lying winter pastures and the high cooler summer grazing grounds. Museum Quality Mesopotamian Pottery Ram A great find. And not previously published, an extremly rare, large, and highly important example of the earliest of all the world pottery examples of sculptes animal. A couple of examples of these were dicovered at the excavations at Ur. The most ancient city, just above the mouth of the Euphrates River in the southeast Iraq. This example. Though missing its wheels, is by far the most sophisticated, and is large and remarkably complete. When found. The head was seperated, and was reapplied cleanly and professionally, and almost the half of the lower front leg and foot area on one side is filled out as an unhidden restoration. The form is powerful and direct. With deep cross hatching and repitious indentions are deeply impressed in the clay before firing, to represent the shaggy hair. The mouth of the ... moreanimal acts as a spout. And is apparently also a vessel as the interior is hollow. The"axel" holes are clean through. With some small chips at the opening of one, and apparently some small fill below this. The clay is a light buff color. With the remains of a red slip applied surface, and the tips of the horns, or ears, are chipped away.
