The Rogers & Smith company was organized in 1857 to manufacture silver plate hollow but by 1861 the company merged with the Rogers Bros. Mfg. Co. In 1862 their tools and dies were sold to Meriden Britannia and later in 1863 they also bought the hollow ware division. This would date the manufacture of the tureen to the early 1860's. Later the mystical Assyrian - Assyrian Head pattern was manufactured by the Meriden Britannia Company in 1886-1887 and cataloged as "Assyrian". The flatware pieces varied as to if they were with or with out heads.

This is a first edition of The Assyrian Sculptures by C.J. Gadd published in 1934. It is 9.5" by 6" with 77p.p. + a page with details of other B.M. publications. There are 18 black and white plates of the sculptures. There is a small"bump" at the top of the spine and two small marks on the back cover. There is an old ink ownership inscription in the top right hand corner of the title page but overall this is a very good clean copy in the original flexible card covers.
