Dating to the Neo-Babylonian dynasty. Ca. 604-562 B.C. Important brick inscription dedicated to the most famous of all Kings of Babylon- Nebuchadnezzar II. The importance of this inscribed Clay Record is reflected by the fact that the inscription has been deciphered by Professor Lambert of Birmingham University. An internationally renowned expert in this field. Professor Lambert's hand written records read as follows: Brick Inscription of Nebuchadnezzar II. King of Babylon, 560 BC: Nebuchadnezzar. King of Babylon, provisioner of Esagil and Ezida, prime son of Nabopolassar. King of Babylon, am I. Ebabbara, the Temple of Shamash in Larsa I restored as it was before. For Shamash, my Lord. An Antique Perrsian Glazed Decorated Pottery Bottle 18th century
This Iranian Persian-style vase is hand-made and hand-painted in flower motifs. Not as finely painted as some of the older Iznik pieces from old Persia. Yet an attractive and unusual decorative piece with some artistic merit. It has an unusual three-sided form. And has a very old-looking patina. The glaze is intact but rather crackled. At first glance, one would think it is a much older piece, but apparently these kinds of wares were and are still being made in Iran today. With the influx of Iranian immigrants to the US over the past few decades, these wares have been more available here. This and ane one above were acquired in San Diego, California where there is a large population of Iranian immigrants. Other Key Words: Persia. Exquisite Safavid Persian Pottery 17th Century Lustre Blue Glazed Bottle / Vase
This beautiful. Museum quality 17th Century Persian Safavid blue glazed bottle/ pottery/ vase for collector of Safavid or Ancient Persian art measures 5" tall x 5" wide and contains fanciful animal(dog and bird) and plant motifs. The bottle is in good condition for its age(approx. 350 years old) with some expected repairs to the rim. The gold paint and glazed blue color appear throughout the bottle(although some photos seem as if the motifs are partially dark blue and partially gold. This is a result of the flash and all of the motifs are outlined in gold) Some of the animals and plant motifs are more pronounced than others. You can compare it to the similar size and color Safavid bottle sold by Christie's London in 2011: and to another Safavid blue glazed bottle that sold in 1999 which has motifs somewhat similar to this one: ... moreI'm an art and antique collector and have a very nice private collection of art(Renaissance. Prehistoric Mesopotamian (Hassunan) Terracotta Head (circa 5800 B.C.E.)
Prehistoric Mesopotamian(Hassunan) Terracotta Head(circa 5800 B.C.E. This is a superb example of a prehistoric( Huss unan) terracotta head. It was originally acquired from the renown author. Antiquities dealer and expert, Alex G. Malloy. The Hassunan Culture was a Neolithic archae ol ogical culture(circa 5.800 B.C.E. that flourished in northern Mesopotamia. It was named after Tell Hassuna. Near Mosul, in Iraq. The best studied remain is the settlement of Yarim-Tepe I, excavated by a Soviet expedition between 1969 and 1975. The settlements of the tribes of the Hassunan culture measured 1 to 2 hectares in area. The closely spaced rectangular mud-brick dwellings. With many rooms(three to ten and even more) were sometimes grouped around a court. Various outbuildings were found, including buildings for drying and storing grain. Potter’s kilns ... morewere also found. The discovery of grain(wheat and barley) stone hoes, querns, pestles, scythes, and other objects attest to the existence of primitive land cultivation. Judging from the finds of animal bones, the bearers of the Hassunan culture raised cows, hogs, and goats. The discovery of copper beads and pendants, a lead bracelet, and fragments of copper ore at the settlements indicate the existence of metallurgy. The Hassunan culture is characterized by a variety of vessels, decorated with molded ornamentation, incised herringbone patterns, and painted geometric designs, as well as by clay female figurines and stone seals. Numerous burials, with inhumations chiefly of children, were also unearthed. Beautiful Napoleonic Islamic Carnelian Intaglio Talisman "Gol Noor Ali Shah"
On offer is this beautifully cut cornelian intaglio with an Islamic script. It bears the named inscription: Gol Noor Ali Shah" Likely the original owner of this seal. It would have been worn in a ring during the 18th-19th century. Rather than being used to seal wax documents as we do in Europe. These seals were first inked then used to stamp ink onto the document to be sealed. Usually the recesses are very shallow to allow for this. This seal stone is of great quality and has beautiful hand cut script that is an artwork all in itself. During the Napoleonic Wars. Napoleons sister-in-law(Queen Hortense) distributed engraved Islamic intaglios to officers, serving in Napoleon's military campaigns. It was a firm belief that they held protective qualities, saving many lives during battle. General du Rosnel declared in a letter that he ... moreowed his life to the talisman seal attached to his watch and went on to give out impressions to all his friends: thereafter young women continually approached Hortense for these engraved gems to give to their beloved, before going off to war. Napoleon had a similar talisman which he had picked up during the Egyptian campaign, which was engraved on cornelian. Napoleon III, who inherited it from his uncle, always wore it on his watch chain and in his turn bequeathed it to his son, the Prince Imperial; when the Prince was killed in 1879 during the war against the Zulus in South Africa, the talisman disappeared from his body and was not recovered. This is a great historical piece of jewellery. Would be ideal reset into a gold signet ring or watch fob Size: 19mm x 16mm x 4mm Weight: 2.8g Date: 18th-19th Century AD Material: Cornelian This item is guaranteed authentic and dates to the period described. A written guarantee can be provided on request. We accept returns if you are not satisfied with your purchase.

4th-6th CENTURY INDIA TERRACOTTA PARROT BIRD TAXILA w/ GUMP'S DOCUMENTATION
GUMP'S documentation reads: PARROT INDIA TERRA COTTA. TAXILA(PUNJAB) 4th-6th Century A.D. 62-1141 LENGTH 5-3/4” Wood Stand” The City of Taxila(Takshashila) was one of the great centers of the Asiatic world in the early centuries of this era. It was the seat of a great university and scholars from all over India came to Taxila to study everything from medicine to theology. There were numerous monasteries and thousands of monks. From the ruins many delightful terracottas have been recovered. Some animals, some human figures– all things that delighted the secular population until the city was destroyed by the invasions of the 7th-8th centuries. We agree with the description from Gump’s. This is delightfully exquisite with delicate form and classical appearance. It was very modern even by today’s designer standards. This terra cotta has been ... morekiln fired possessing few blemishes; it is in excellent condition for it’s ancient provenance. Base measures approx. 6” x 2-1/2” x 1” the parrot approx. 5-3/4” x 2” x 3” high. A perfect museum piece mounted by GUMP’S or their conservator on what appears to be 2 copper posts. The wood base has“Japan” stamped on the bottom. These wood bases from Japan were traditionally used by Gump's to display their antiquities in the 1950's& 60's. MEDIEVAL EUROPEAN DAGGER 800 YEARS OLD
This is a medieval dagger or side knife dating to about 1200 A.D. It is a type carried for personal defense by a man of modest means as there was no central law-enforcement at the time. It is well made and would have been among his most prized possessions. It is 5 3/8 inch overall length with most of the handle lacking. The blade has a deeply curved cutting edge and sharp point making it suitable for both stabbing and slashing. The right side has two makers’ marks. It was found in southern Germany( Bavaria) in the 1980s and professionally cleaned and preserved at that time. The shape of the blade with its flat sides meeting at the cutting-edge indicates its use as a weapon rather than a utility knife which would show signs of repeated sharpening.

GAND Ceramic Head mounted on Walnut(?) Base circa 200 BC
I only know what I have been told about this by a certified appraiser informally. He said that this was a fragment from what would have been a household deity and that it was of a god or goddess called GAND and dated from 200BC. You will have to judge for yourself. It was part of a collection of several dozen such items of which I have 11 pieces total. Contact me to find out what else is available!

Ancient Near Eastern Bronze Abstract Faces Mace Head - 1000 BC
An extremely rare ancient Near Eastern figural bronze mace-head. Dating to the 3rd-2nd Millennium B.C. The only such example we have seen on the market. The bronze mace head with cylindrical. Ridged socket, bulbous body and blunt projections. The body of the mace decorated circumferentially with four standing stylized humans. The figures face out, with circular staring eyes and with prominent, angular noses and open mouths. The hands placed on hips/breasts with arms bowed. The function of this rare weapon is mysterious. Possibly a weapon. Elaborately decorated as a display of wealth, or alternatively a purely ceremonial piece, for carrying out sacrifice. For a figure of similar style, identified as a female holding her breasts, see Moorey, Ancient Bronzes Ceramics and Seals. 1981, LA County Museum, p.26 fig.42. Length: 4 1/4 inches. Condition: ... moreExceptional condition. Unrestored. Beautiful patina with azurite inclusions. Provenance: Ex. Sackler collection. Arthur M Sackler 1913-1987 was one of the pre-eminent collectors of the 20th Century. As well as being a major philanthropist and patron of the arts.
