Bronze spear head Luristan 16.5 centimeter.Tapering with excellent crusty green patination 1000-1200 BC Barbed spear Mounted in black display case- 15" by 7" The term LURISTAN references artifacts made by a society of semi-nomadic people that once lived in the mountainous region of Northwest Iran. Little is known of this ancient culture but the most impressive traces are that of the bronze artifacts they left behind that can be found in parts of present-day Turkey. Iran and Afghanistan. These include highly decorative equipment for their horses, ceremonial containers and numerous weapons ranging from simple utilitarian pieces on up to elaborate masterpieces of warfare. It is theorized that the Luristan bronzes were crafted by the earliest existence of the Medean empire but this has never been proven as written records of the Medes ... morehave not survived. The Medes were Indo-Iranian people originally from central Asia who settled in Northwest Iran in the 9th century BC and later defeated the Assyrian empire in 614 BC. Their success is short-lived and their empire which once stretched from central Iran to the Persian Gulf and Anatolia was overrun in 550 BC by the Persians. The modern Assyrian Christian minority in northern Iraq, north east Syria, south east Turkey and north west Iran are the descendants of the ancient Assyrians(see Assyrian continuity) Assyria was originally one of a number of Akkadian city states in Mesopotamia. In the late 24th century BC. Assyrian kings were regional leaders only, and subject to Sargon of Akkad, who united all the Akkadian Semites and Sumerian-speaking peoples of Mesopotamia under the Akkadian Empire, which lasted from c. 2334 BC to 2154 BC. Following the fall of the Akkadian Empire c. 2154 BC, and the succeeding Sumerian Third Dynasty of Ur, there were a number of other competing Amorite states, such as Isin and Larsa, but Mesopotamia eventually coalesced into two distinct nations: Assyria in the north, and Babylonia in the south.

Beautiful Bronze Luristan Officer's Sword and Dagger 1200 - 800 BC
Up for sale are two well preserved pieces of Persian history. The two items for sale are a Luristan short sword and an accompanying dagger. Likely wielded by an officer between 1200 and 800 BC. These two items come from a private collection originally purchased back in the 1950's which was then purchased by my father and I about five years ago as part of a numismatic(coin) collection contained within an estate sale. The original tags are still attached as originally appraised back from the 1950's dealer who sold it. Dimensions can be seen in the picture attached which puts the sword at just over 20" long and the dagger at just around 10" in length. You will also notice that there is a hairline fracture visible on the short sword. It was determined that the sword, not long after it was made, experienced a breakage while likely ... morebeing used in battle. The blade was repaired around the same time period and has oxidized evenly with the rest of the bronze material contained in the blade. Inlays and gemstones were also likely to have existed at some point as well but I do not know if such speculation is accurate. These pieces belong in a museum but I have enjoyed them long enough and want to move onto something else. Enjoy.

Ancient Luristan Long Sword Prominent Grip Decoration VERY RARE 1200-900 BC
About The Luristan Culture Lorestān bronze is a set of Early Iron Age bronze artifacts of various individual forms which have been recovered from Lorestān and Kermanshah areas in west-central Iran. They include a great number of weapons. Ornaments, tools, and ceremonial objects. The artifacts were created by a major group of Persian aboriginals known as Lurs. Lorestani Bronze objects were taken illegally to Europe via Mesopotamia and to cover up most of the items taken they called them Mesopotamian while in fact there are no similarities what so ever between the Persian Bronze objects excavated in Lorestan 1943 to 1968. Which were dated to be from 5th to 4th millennium BC. The hair pins and four men holding a cup were typical of that period which once again separates Iranian development from whatever was going on in so called Sumerian areas. ... moreTypical Lorestāni-style objects belong to the(Iranian) Iron Age(c. 1250-650 BC) About This Artifact This very rare and solid ancient Luristan sword bears an incredibly long blade and features a very uniquely designed handle with two prominent mouldings made on its grip. Ending off with a rounded, funnel-shaped pommel. A dark, natural patina is retained with a rich layer of earthen encrustations that have settled all over this sword, testament to its age and authenticity. Ancient Persian Luristan Bronze Age Knife Blade Weapon - 1200 BC
A genuine ancient Luristan Persian Bronze Age knife/dagger. Dating to approximately 1200- 800 B.C. Cast in one piece. With a sleek and uniform blade, the tang pierced for insertion into a wooden or bone handle, the original rivets remain. This striking blade was produced by the expert bronze working society known to us as the Luristans. These individuals often served as mercenaries in the service of rulers in the lowlands of Mesopotamia. The ancient inhabitants of mountainous Luristan were pastoralists and would have followed an annual cycle of migration between their warm low-lying winter pastures and the high cooler summer grazing grounds. Their production of these remarkable bronze artifacts for which ancient Luristan society is primarily known took place largely during the winter months. When the low lying valleys were packed with their ... moretented encampments. The Assyrian king Sennacherib's account of a campaign in Luristan territory vividly illustrates how the land would have been full of these temporary settlements during an age redolent with violent conflict: And their settlements which were numberless. I destroyed, I devastated, I turned to ash. The houses of the steppe, namely their tents, wherein they dwelt, I set on fire" A fascinating ancient near eastern piece. Expertly produced by an adaptable and fierce society. Length of blade: 5 ½ inches. Condition: Very good. Unrestored. Provenance: Ex. British Private Collection. Formerly on the London art market, acquired 1980's. Please note: This is a genuine. Highly collectible and valuable Bronze Age knife. Elamite Terracotta & Faience Beads 1200-1000 BC Necklace Elam 40+ Inches
Elamite Terracotta Blue Faience Beads 1200-1000 BC Earth Tones Elam This is string of Elamite beads is approximately 42 inches in length and contains many of the small beads. According to the accompanying documentation from Sadigh Galleries of New York: Elamite Bead Necklace- The ancient kingdom of Elam lay in the southern provinces of present-day Iran. The Elamites. Like their great Mesopotamian neighbor to the south, were ruled by a sequence of dynasties and their culture flourished from 2,000 BC to about 650 BC when they were conquered by Assurbanipal. The people of Elam had a distinctive artistic tradition and their style can be recognized on artifacts that have been recovered. Elamite cylinder seals frequently depict daily life scenes: hunting. Weaving and playing musical instruments. Seals also serve as a source of information on personal ... moreadornment and show, for example, formal hairstyles combed forward and projecting above the brow, large turbans, bare chests and pleated long skirts worn by deities and men of distinction. Goddesses' statues were adorned with jewelry and votive statues often show a series of necklaces. Beads were a popular adornment for men and women alike and were made from a variety of materials including stone, clay, faience and bone. The terra cotta beads on this necklace are from the Elamite culture and are dated 1200-1000 BC. The earth-toned beads are made of fired clay and the blue beads are made of faience paste. These beads have been carefully restrung in a wearable necklace. The accompanying Certificate of Authenticity is included with this necklace. We are not experts in antiquities such as these and are selling for a gentleman who purchased this item a few years ago. The beads indeed look old. But beyond that, we cannot make guarantee on anything in the Certificate as issued by Sadigh.
