Four great-looking antique cast iron building corbels! Each is approx. 6" X 5.75" And stick out about 3.75" from the wall. So they are small-ish, but heavy, weighing a bit over 6 lbs. each. LOTS of rust, paint loss, chips to the iron, and other wear consistent with age/use. One of them is rough and gnarly on the lower right; it looks like it came into contact with a welding torch, perhaps during removal from the building. These are very OLD and large! These corbels will be a statement piece in any room of your home! Each one could be its own shelf or would be stunning as support brackets for a fireplace. Shelving, etc. The architexture from the turn of the century is slowly being destroyed house by house. These corbels are a great way to show how homes were built by craftsman. Dimensions are.drumroll.21 inches tall x 12 inches deep x 6 inches wide. They weigh a staggering 10 1/2 pounds each! These are truly one of a kind and when they are gone.they are gone. Aren't these great? I love to use vintage architectural pieces whether it's here on our alpaca farm ... moreor in the city. They are great conversation pieces and offer a myriad of uses! These are solid wood and I do not have the knowledge of what type of building they have come from. Corbels in our area are on homes that were built before the 1900s but they could be from the 20s or 30s as well. Uses that I have seen are a decorative piece that was used as a support bracket for the front porch but they were widely used in other aspects of decor as well. Usually they weren't weight bearing. I don't know why I just gave you a bit of history but there you go: Back to the corbels or support brackets.These are not handcarved one piece corbels but instead they were designed as seperate pieces and then nailed together. The tall side 11.5 inches. The sides are 10 inches and they are almost 4 inches in width. I love the character of the paint but it is chipping and has loads of patina because this was an outdoor item. I would suggest spraying it with a clearcoat if you would like to preserve the finish. There are lots of dings and dents but are truly a beautiful piece for bookends. Underneath a fireplace mantle, bar support, etc. Some small pieces of wood trim are missing

Made of solid fir and all decorative pieces are complete and fully intact and there is no rot whatsoever. These were removed from the gable end overhang and we have paired the set with a corbel from each side of the gable, so they have opposite profiles(see pictures) Due to this, this is a very rare opposite angled set that can be used for a one of a kind piece of your choosing. Originally, only masonry was given the corbel name, while wooden structures of the same purpose were called"braggers" or"tassels. Progressively, the corbel moniker began being applied to a wider range of materials, and today, anything with a load bearing or an aesthetic function which resembles the original stone corbel is given the name. Wood corbels have long been an integral part of architectural design in China, where together with unique structural elements such as interlocking wooden brackets( dougong) they are one of the most important elements in traditional Chinese architecture. antique architectural corbel - 4.6 pounds - Real wood
I love corbels and the history that go with them! They are getting harder to find because they are usually found on historical homes under the eaves. This particular one is solid wood and was put together in sections. Can you imagine how much work these took to make in bulk for that particular house? Amazing. You can see some of the original finish but at some point some black was put on it and then it was lightly hit with some spray paint that Lowes sell that gives it a rough texture. Thanksfully. They didn't use a lot of the product so it will be much easier to sand off. This would look amazing painted in an eggshell cream and lightly sand the edges to give it back its aged look. It is 4.5 pounds~ It is 11 inches tall from top to bottom, widest part of the base is 6 inches, width at the top is 9 inches, the base is 6 x 6. 7 Victorian Style ARCHITECTURAL Salvage Country American Wood Corbel Shelf Brackets Brackets measure 10 1/4 x 4 1/4 x 3 1/2. Identical. Composed of three pieces of wood(either pine or poplar) Stained a dark brown. These are reproduction and not antique but are at least 10 years old and have been used once that I am aware of. The finish is original. The outside pieces of wood are cut with a flourish design in the side. The center piece, which is thicker, is in a complementary design. The three pieces are nailed together. All are solid with a few cracks from drying and age. Three show no signs of use, Four have a nail hole towards the bottom(see last photo) These are custom made and not mass produced. Please scroll down under this description for additional views. Pair of salvage architectural corbels. 10 1/2" by 5 1/2" cut from 1" thick solid oak. These were exterior supports for a porch or roof overhang and if you look at the sides, you can see a shadow outline of the wood that separated them. The faces have a routed line decoration on the top half and a foliate design on the lower portion. Definitely a pair, since the design is a mirror image. Nice for supporting a small shelf or mantel, the oak is quite weathered and most of the white paint has chipped away. One corbel has a broken off edge at the top.
